I honestly hope that he doesn't get assassinated during his term in office. It's pretty scary if you think of it. He's got a lot of supporters, but he's also got a lot of people who are so against him that there have already been plots to assassinate him.

I just hope that never happens.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09251507898309184477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-66176084990648101012008-11-06T07:11:00.001-05:002008-11-06T07:11:00.001-05:00Jimmy:Awwww! There was just this really strong feeling of hope. Amazing.

I watched Obama's speech online and was really moved by what he had to say. I cried (yeah...I'd blame it on being pregnant and hormonal, but I'd probably cry regardless)!

It makes me wonder though...why is it that this has had an impact/impression on many Canadians like myself? Certainly, many of my American friends don't even know that Canada has a Prime Minister and not a president! :) I always wondered why American news has such an importance in the lives of Canadians. I used to think it was because we were neighbours, so inevitably we knew what was going on in each other's countries. That's not the case though since some of the people I met while vacationing in the States often ask me questions like "Does it always snow in Canada?", "Do you go to work in the winter?" (assuming that we're always snow-bound), "Do you take skidoos to work or dog sleds?", "Are the Mounties really your policemen?", "How do the Mounties catch criminals if they're on horses?". "Do you speak Canadian in Canada?". It sounds crazy, but people have ACTUALLY asked me those questions!!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09251507898309184477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-42820858889699582852008-11-05T23:01:00.001-05:002008-11-05T23:01:00.001-05:00oops. i meant 'historic' night.oops. i meant 'historic' night.caninecolognehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921983679558271352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-82105031705413532332008-11-05T23:01:00.000-05:002008-11-05T23:01:00.000-05:00Yes, indeed. One minute we were watching TV and the electoral votes were still being posted, then literally one second later (this was at 8 pm), the screen flashed, "President Elect Barack Obama"! We all started clapping and cheering. I hope the US can begain to regain its respect from the world again. The country went downhill with "W". No more Bush, thank goodness.

word verification:
lamakecaninecolognehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07921983679558271352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-65026466736459533642008-11-05T21:55:00.000-05:002008-11-05T21:55:00.000-05:00Jeanna:I was thinking of you, J and Jimbo as we aw...Jeanna:
I was thinking of you, J and Jimbo as we awaited the final results. I thought it was so interesting how a lot of us here were really excited about the news...and we're not American! We really do seem to follow up on events happening in the States. Like I've said before, we get a lot of news coverage from the States here. It's funny because most of my American friends have no idea of what is going on in Canada. I don't know if it's just lack of interest or what.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09251507898309184477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-65704177947667583632008-11-05T21:50:00.000-05:002008-11-05T21:50:00.000-05:00Starshine:I haven't had a chance to listen to Obam...Starshine:
I haven't had a chance to listen to Obama's speech yet. It was so funny because neither of us ordered cable TV (at $10/day and if I'm here until the baby is born...I think I can do without TV). We were cheering each time we got a text message update...kind of like how one would cheer at a football or hockey game! Crazy! What an exciting night indeed! I'm going to try to see if I can find Obama's speech on YouTube or something.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09251507898309184477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-48163541833522137422008-11-05T10:57:00.000-05:002008-11-05T10:57:00.000-05:00When can we take Jimmy off of suicide watch? When can we take Jimmy off of suicide watch?Jeannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13823269912693006949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22578035.post-24778195502964084562008-11-05T10:29:00.000-05:002008-11-05T10:29:00.000-05:00What an amazing night it was yesterday.
