What were you doing 10 years ago?
I was finishing university and working as a supply teacher in Newmarket, Ontario. Little did I know, I would soon be leaving for one of the biggest adventures of my life! I'd be leaving to teach overseas :)
What were you doing 1 year ago?
This time last year, I was preparing all the last minute details for my wedding. Being engaged was such a fun and exciting time. All the planning and prepping for the biggest day of my life was so fun! For the most part, all the wedding planning went smoothly and perfectly. It was only the extra 'help' (okay, unsolicited advice) from outside sources that drove me bonkers. Near the end, I have to admit that I turned into Bridezilla!! I remember crying and getting upset when other people tried to tell me what to do, how to do things...when it was my (okay, our) wedding. Anyway, this time last year, I was going in for my wedding dress fittings and finalizing little details.
Five snacks you enjoy
1) applesauce
2) tortilla chips and salsa
3) trail mix
4) pineapple wedges
5) crackers and cheese

We lost one child and now we're getting four!!!
The title of this post was not meant to mislead you. We thought we were going to get a quiet weekend sans kids, as my student is staying at the high school for the 30 Hour Famine. "The 30 Hour Famine is an international youth movement to fight hunger."
Without the presence of kids, Hubby and I were thinking we'd just relax and watch a movie together. However, it appears we've lots on child and have gained FOUR! :) Our nieces are going to sleep over tonight since I have to pick them up at their bus stop after school and the kids across the road will be coming too. I'm not sure how long they'll be here for, but it will be just until their mom gets home. The kids need an adult to be present at their stop in order for the bus driver to let them off. It's a great idea. I'm all for making sure the kids are safe.
In other news, I think we're actually going to be having babies in a few weeks. Feline babies. Remember when George escaped from the house? She was gone for over a week. Well, she's been sporting an ever growing belly. By our calculations, we should have kittens here in 3 or 4 weeks. I don't know if I'm ready for babies!

Water plants in the greenhouse too. I've started tomatoes (Roma and Beefsteak) and I've got radishes, lettuce, and more herbs (parsley, lemon thyme, Greek oregano and basil) growing. I've also got some geraniums, Buddha bamboo, an orchid and some other plants in there.

Our student, P1 was still sleeping when the horses wandered onto our property. He got up and looked out the window and thought he was dreaming...and went back to bed!

Manitoulin Trade Fair IX
On Friday, we went to the Manitoulin Trade Fair in Little Current. The fair ran from May 4th to the 6th and showcased over 125 local businesses. It always surprises me to see how many businesses there are on the island. They had everything from home appliances, golf clubs, soaps, jams and jellies, fudge, farming info, fishing gear, pizza, ice cream (from 3 Cows and a Cone), mad science, pony rides, cute little trinkets and gifts (from The Rain Barrel), clothing (from Dreamer's Cove) to even live entertainment (they had a string quartet too!).
Our student, P1 really enjoyed the trade fair. Between munching on pizza and sausages, he was gallavanting with his friends from the local high school. He is really enjoying his experience here in Canada.
I promised Hubby that I wouldn't buy anything, but I ended up purchasing a few pairs (okay, 5 pairs!) of earrings from Dylon. A great big shout out to Dylon! If you're reading this, D, you are my hero!!! I've got super sensitive skin and my ears are very picky when it comes to earrings. Dylon's jewelry is made with quality metals, so there is no irritation! This is good news for me!! Or maybe this is good news for Dylon and not me! LOL!
I also bought a few spices from the Watkins booth. Hubby and I have been fighting off some bug that's been going around. I bought some ginger powder to make a tea that is sure to clear up your insides and make your throat feel better. Usually, I buy my Watkins products from Wiky Lion, but he wasn't there this time.
Ginger Tea Recipe
1/2 tbsp ginger powder
1/2 tbsp sugar (you can use honey if you don't want to use sugar)
1 c of boiling water
Mix well and drink while hot.
It was a wonderful day had by all. Oh, and Steve, if you are reading this, did you know that 3 Cows and a Cone is selling your Jones Soda Co. Carbonated Candy??? I was happily surprised to see that your candy is being sold on the Island!!! Another shout out goes to the gang at Big Sky Brands! If you haven't already tried their candy, you really ought to try some soon!

It's Sunday morning and it's a gorgeous day. Hubby and I were up at 7 and working by 7:30. He went off to plant grain and I had a load of laundry going. I was hoping to go over my music again this morning (the Island Singers concert is tomorrow night. Hope to see some of you there!). I was out back, hanging laundry, thinking how beautiful the day is and how everything looks so gorgeous and green! The sky is a gorgeous shade of blue and there's a gently breeze. I love how the wind makes the blades of grass sway. Chance was on his back with all four legs up in the air and his tongue hanging out of his mouth. He is such a crazy dog. I don't know why he likes sleeping on his back with all fours in the air when he's outside.
All of a sudden, Chance jumps up and runs off, barking like crazy. Something was up, because the dog hardly ever barks. Selective barking, perhaps? I thought he saw an animal or maybe one of the kittens escaped from the house again. I ignored him. As I continued to hang our laundry to dry, I looked over and there was a horse in our field! I don't think it hit me until a few seconds after! I looked over again and this time there were FOUR horses in our back field! Only in the country, can you hang your laundry on the line and be graced with the presence of horses trotting in your backyard! LOL!
Hubby was off somewhere planting grain, so I couldn't get him. I figured I'd call the neighbour's and let them know that their horses were at our place. I didn't have to call them because they were already on their way. I'm just so glad that the horses went into our field (where it's all fenced in) rather than hang out on the highway.
The neighbours and their two kids were all up and rounding up the horses. They brought over their three wheeler and all hopped on. My friend (the wife/mom) called back to me as they sped off, "Beverly Hillbillies, Chris!!" LOL! Too funny! I love that family! What an interesting and exciting way to begin a Sunday morning!

10 Random Weird Facts About Me
Conne tagged me via e-mail on this one. Of course, I couldn't say no to a good meme! :)
1) Coffee has an adverse effect on me. This is horrible, because I love the smell and taste of coffee! Coffee actually puts me to sleep (within minutes)!!! I discovered I had this disorder when I was in college. There is only a small percentage of people in the world who have this problem.
2) I can go from obsessive compulsive-like behaviour to totally laid back. There are days when I can be totally anal about everything being in order and freak out if all the labels on the cans in the kitchen cupboard are not facing the same direction...and days when I couldn't give a hoot if there's laundry on the bedroom floor or papers and mail scattered on the dining room table. It's not often though...since it irritates me when there are papers and other things on the table. I suppose it bugs Hubby that I don't like to have anything on the table when it is not being used for dining.
3) I can write with both my right and left hand.
4) I can't sleep with my feet covered. It's weird. I usually end up kicking the covers off so my feet aren't covered. I could never ever sleep with socks on either!
5) I check my e-mail every day (Uhh...for work purposes! Yeah. That's it!)
6) I like opera, jazz, alternative, classical, rock, glam rock, reggae, reggaeton, calypso, steel band, R&B, hip hop, punk, country, pop, top 40's hits, oldies (30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, as well as 70's, 80's, 90's), new age, disco, folk, instrumental, techno and dance music.
7) I'm allergic to cheap jewelry. Okay, let me rectify that statement. I'm allergic to certain metals. I need to wear only 100% sterling silver or 100% gold earrings...or else my ears will get infected and fester and fall off. Now, you don't want that to happen to me, do you?
8) Green apples make my lips swell. Yes, there's something about the skin/peel of the green apple that makes my mouth burn, itch and swell like a platypus! I love the taste of green apple though. I have to really wash and peel the apple if I want to eat it. For some reason, if I touch the peel with my hands, it's okay...but I can't eat the peel. My brothers used to love seeing how long it would take before my lips begin to swell and I look like a duck.
9) I've got a very acute sense of smell. In other words, it doesn't take much in the way of offensive smells to make me gag and dry heave. It's really sad and embarrassing. I just cannot control the instant gag reflexes. I have a weak stomach.
10) I take the whole 'reduce, reuse, recycle' thing very seriously. I even reuse the plastic milk bags after the milk's been emptied. I wash the bags and dry them, and use them to put our garden produce in and freeze them for future use. The plastic milk bags are really strong and raspberries, corn, broccoli and other produce freeze really nicely in them. Just secure them with a twist tie...or better yet, one of those tabs from the bread bags (if you buy your bread). I sometimes buy our bread if I don't have time to bake our own. I just keep all the tabs so I can use them for something in the future (like tying plastic bags for freezing food)!
Now that you know these 10 random, weird facts about me, I will redeem myself by leaving you with pics of my adorable nephew. It's just so amazing to see how much he has changed in but a few weeks! These are his 6 wks pics. When I was in K-town to see him, he was 2 wks old.

Okay! I admit it...
I am such a kid!! I am a sucker for care packages!!! I love sending them to friends and family and I love receiving them! It feels like Christmas in May at our house! Our student, (whom I will refer to as P1 to preserve his anonymity) received a care package from his mom. In it, she thoughtfully included lots of Korean snack-type goodies (cookies, crackers, etc), lots of chocolate and candies, clothes, stationery, and gifts for our family.
How P1's mom got all of those goodies into a small box is incredible! Here's P1, tyring to explain what is what. He's getting better at explaining and describing in English, but some of the Korean was a bit hard for him to translate.
Apparently, stationery is really big in South Korea. They've got lots of really cute paper products. Here's a notebook I thought was funny. P1 didn't seem to understand why I was laughing. You're always safe with that milk! ALL Ways! Is it just me, or does anyone else see the humour in that? 
Now for some delicious Vegetable Crackres Tin Tin With Garlic, Parsley, Onion, Pimento, Leek, Tomato! The "crackers" were savoury (no, I didn't spell "crackres" incorrectly. That's what it said on the box!). I have one question though...What on earth is "tin tin"?
More stationery. This one cracked me up too. Again, P1 couldn't see why I thought it was funny. Would you care for A piece of Remember too? 
Still more stationery. This time, it's a folder. Apparently, if you arrange your paper in this folder, it makes your feeling fresh!
Dark Angel chocolate. Need I say more?
Snack food...all sorts of it! Everything from mini pizzas, chocolate-filled biscuits, 'moon pies' (aka 'choco pie' in S. Korea or 'wagon wheels' in Canada), and even cuttlefish&peanut flavoured snacks. I passed on the last snack item, but Hubby was brave enough to try it.
The goods!
Finally...pens, mechanical pencils, refills, highlighters, markers and more writing implements than you can ever imagine! Yes, hundreds and hundreds of pens!!! I kid you not! I told P1 and his mom that we do have pens in Canada. Apparently, South Korean pens are way better than North American pens. At least that's what P1 says! LOL!
