Birth
This morning we awoke to something really exciting! The alarm went off and I was about to get out of bed to make breakfast for our homestay student. I had one cat on my right side and another on the left. When the cats heard P1 go to the kitchen, one of them ran to the kitchen --a daily ritual, since that means it's time to get fed! The other cat did not scamper as usual. She stayed in bed, but was pushing against my leg. She was really forceful and persistent. I sat up and saw that she was delivering her kittens on our bed!!! I just saw this tiny little kitten coming out of tiny little George (practically on my leg!) and gasped, "Honey!!! She's having kittens...on our bed!!" Hubby jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to fetch the box with old blankets that I set up in the laundry room for George's delivery. We didn't think she was going to have her first litter so soon! I was really surprised that she had her kittens in our room, since I would have thought she'd prefer somewhere quiet and secluded...not with us around!
The babies are soooooooo tiny! They look like little rats! George started delivery around 7 AM, with the first kitten being born at 7:08. I missed the birth of the second kitten, but the third was born around 10 AM. The three are all so different! Baby #1 is a charcoal/slate colour with a bit of white around the eyes. I may call him Squeaky because minutes after he was born, he started making the cutest little squeaking sounds! Baby #2 looks like a mini George. He's the spitting image of his mama! I was thinking of naming him LG (Little George). Baby#3 is mainly dark with bits of George's colouring. I jokingly told Hubby I'm calling him/her Slurpy because he/she's a hungry little kitten and makes a lot of slurping sounds! I haven't gotten a close enough look yet to determine the sex of the third kitten and I am going to wait a few days before I handle them. I'd like George to bond with them first.
I'll be heading to K-town for my little nephew's baptism this weekend, but I am having a difficult time tearing myself away from the kittens! LOL!

Sunday at the Beach
Yesterday, we decided to have some 'family time' and go to the beach. My favourite beach on the island has white sand, turquoise water and an incredible view. Yesterday, Hubby introduced me to a different spot. This beach was a bit rocky, but as Hubby says, it's perfect for taking the doggy. We don't have to worry about him bringing in too much sand and messing up the vehicle. He can just shake off and hop into the truck. Check out how pretty the water is! Sooooooo clear!!!Chance is a water baby. He just loves swimming. You'd be surprised, since he doesn't look like the type of pup that would enjoy trips to the beach. Here are some pics of our afternoon at the beach!
Here's our attempt at a family photo. Of course, I'm the only one taking it seriously (as usual)! Hubby's making funny faces at the camera and Chance is being squirmy because he'd rather be playing with rocks!! Will we ever get a nice photo of all of us looking normal?? Notice the plastic baggies in my pocket? LOL! A responsible doggy mama always has plastic bags in one pocket and doggy biscuits in the other! ;)

Sucker
I mentioned that yesterday, Mom and I went to get our hair cut and styled. I am thoroughly pleased with our new looks, but I have learned one new thing about myself. If you open up a dictionary and look for the word 'sucker', you will find a photograph of....
Yes, that's right. I am a big sucker. (Sorry...I'll have to post a pic of the new haircut at a later date. Hubby went to an auction and took the camera with him) After the hairdresser did a marvelous job (which I will probably never ever be able to reproduce myself), she and the owner of the salon suggested I purchase one of the products they carry. "To help maintain the look and keep my hair looking healthy and full of life!". Okay. I don't know why I end up saying yes purchasing crazy expensive haircare products. I said that my hair is fine and I'd like some advice on how to make it look like it has more volume. I'd prefer a natural, non-chemical and environmentally friendly way to do this. I figured perhaps someone would tell me to take some cloves of garlic, peel them and rub them on my scalp? Or maybe take a ripe avocado, mash it and apply it to my head?? I don't know! Anything...something natural and healthy and good for the body and the earth! Instead, I got offered this:

Friday Ramblings
* Spent the day with mom for a long overdue "mother-daughter outing". We had lunch, went shopping, got our hair cut and styled. It was a good time. We live 5 mins away from each other, but because we're both so busy, we can go for weeks without seeing each other. We communicate via e-mail and the occasional phone call. Weird, eh?
* I am usually a very frugal and smart shopper, but today I bought way more than I really needed. Mehhhhh...you gotta splurge sometimes, right? Got myself 3 new dresses and love them all! I've got 2 weddings and a baptism to go to. I needed the new dresses!
My mom saw this outfit on the rack and I refused to even look at it. It looked like only a 12 year old could fit in it! After much harrassing, I succumbed and I hate to say this, but mom was right! The outfit looked great on. I'd have to wear a wrap or a cover of some sort and I need to shorten and hem the pants just a week bit.
I got this dress in a chocolate brown. Mom argued with me about the colour, but and said I dress like the "Crypt Keeper"! She loves bright purples and pinks, whereas I am more subdued.
* George looks like she's about to explode. That kitty's belly is getting so big, I anticipate babies any day now. The only trouble is that she's been eye-balling my bedroom closet a lot lately and I have a sneaky suspicion that she may be contemplating giving birth there! I keep closing my closet and blocking it with the laundry basket, but George somehow finds ways to open the darn thing! I hope she doesn't give birth when I am away next week!!! I want to be there. I've never seen kittens being born before.
* I don't know why, but all I've had on my mind these days has been mango!!! In fact, I just bought a crate of mangoes today. I know...not local, but all I've been wanting to eat is mangoes!! Sorry Annie! I know you think mangoes smell/taste like armpit! LOL! ;)

* I was going to let Chance in the house, but he scared a skunk last night and got 'misted'...not sprayed. There's a little hint of skunk smell, but it's not really potent. It's potent enough for me to not want to let him inside the house though! At least he's doing his job and patrolling the premises. He's so cute! Jimmy, I'm still working on getting that pic for you!!
* I was thinking of a certain person today and of course, the day she calls, I end up being out all day! Grrr! Coincidence? Telepathy? Who knows...but it was cool that she called when I thought of her! Not cool that I wasn't there to talk to her though! LOL
PS. Hubby, if you're reading this...ALL of the items I purchased today were on sale! :) See, I'm still a frugal shopper...sort of! LOL!
Expectations and Disappointment
Didn't We Almost Have It All?
Then there's Meredith and McDreamy. Is it really over for them? Will they ever be able to rectify things? What about Burke and Cristina? I seriously thought they were finally going to get married. Many people have a little anxiety minutes before getting married. Cristina looked as though she was finally ready to get married. It was Burke who surprised me. Before the show, I was all pumped and excited to see what was going to happen to the interns at Seattle Grace. I was really hopeful. After the show, I was bummed! It seemed like none of the characters in the show got what they wanted or expected.
This post isn't just about Grey's Anatomy. It's about expectations and disappointment. What could have been and what actually became. Haven't you had something happen in your life where you have wondered what would have happened if you chose to take the route you didn't? You know...that fork in the road, only you chose to go right instead of left. Do tell! Inquiring minds want to know ;)
Did any of you watch Grey's Anatomy last night? I was certainly surprised by what transpired during the show. Seriously. I think I sat there with my mouth gaping open the entire time! I don't know how I feel about the whole George and Izzy thing. Earlier in the season, I had wanted George and Izzy to get together because he loved her and they were best friends. Then George and Callie get married. You all know how I feel about infidelity and cheating on one's partner. I felt badly for Callie.

Mother Hen
Baby Bro has been gone about 24 hours now. He and C left the Island around this time yesterday. Before they left, Hubby and I took them to The Garden's Gate for lunch. Actually, Hubby calls lunch "dinner" since he's a farmer. He has breakfast, dinner and supper. Dinner, as it was explained to me is the heartier, bigger meal of the day and apparently farmers eat their biggest meal in the middle of the day...which makes sense. Anyway, this is what I was told.
Okay, the Garden's Gate is my absolute favourite place to dine! Baby Bro and C loved it too. The four of us had some good laughs and delicious food. Everything is fresh, made from scratch, and from the finest ingredients. The GG gets most of their ingredients locally. Even their beer and wine are Canadian...and more notably, Ontarian! I just love, love, love people who support locally! For dessert, Baby Bro was torn between the keylime pie and the mango cheesecake!
I tried to prolong our visit, but I knew Baby Bro had a long drive ahead of him. I just hate it when he has to return to K-town. It just makes me so sad. You see, Baby Bro and I are 11 years apart. I was like his second mother since our parents worked a lot when we were kids. Baby Bro was always the apple of my eye. We are very close.
We said our goodbyes and then I gave him a little present for his road trip back. Earlier in the morning, I had baked three dozen chocolate chip cookies so he and C would have something to munch on. I was actually going to pack some drinks, fruit and sandwiches for them, but ran out of time. I made a cute card with a monkey on it (Baby Bro was my little monkey when he was a baby) and wrote this ridiculously sappy letter to him. Eventhough he's 21 already, he'll always be my Baby Bro.
I already miss Baby Bro soooooooo much!
Here's the recipe for the cookies I made for him. WARNING: These are NOT figure friendly cookies!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
1/2 c. butter
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour
1 1/2 c. milk choc. chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter, egg, vanilla, brown and white sugar. Mix in salt, baking soda, flour and choc. chips. Spoon mixture onto cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. I bake mine for 11 mins. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

That's weird...
Baby Bro's girlfriend and I were uploading pics from her camera onto the computer this evening and we chatted about how welcoming our family is. We talked about how crazy and full of life our familia can be! It's always good fun to get together for some laughs! We also remarked that all three of us (my two brothers and I) have partners with blue eyes and fair skin. It's weird how that happened. Certainly, it wasn't something that was planned. Anyway, I thought I'd post some cute pics of us.Just Pics
Baby Bro, his girlfriend, Pook and P1 at the beach on Mother's Day weekend. We're so lucky to live on such a beautiful island :)Time spent with family is the most important thing to me. I really miss my little brother and treasure his visits to the island. It makes me sad to think that he's leaving back for K-town tomorrow :(

Definitely Pregnant
It's true. George is definitely, undeniably, absolutely pregnant. The poor kitty is going to have babies...and soon!!! A week ago, she looked quite plump. She's a very little cat, so the extra weight really showed. Then she started being very affectionate, and she (unlike her sister, Fred) is quite a solitary animal. I couldn't believe it! I was hoping she wasn't pregnant, but there is life growing in her belly now. I'm kind of excited at the prospect of little kittens being born!!
Two days ago, the lady I got the kitties from came over to visit and she took one look at George and said, "Oh! She's definitely pregnant!" I can't remember how long the gestation period for cats is, but it looks like George will give birth soon. Wouldn't it be a real kicker if Fred were pregnant too? What am I going to do with all these kittens??? Hubby says he'd like to have them for barn cats. I guess I'm still a city girl and think of cats as pets and not working animals. Hubby's right though. What am I going to do with a zillion cats in the house? That can't happen.
Last night, we had some friends over for supper and E had her hand on George's belly and felt movement! Oh my gosh! I put my hand on George's belly and felt lots of movement too. It was sooooo creepy, yet cool!
We're getting the cats fixed after the babies are weaned.
