That's What SHE Said!

Scene: At a BBQ party on our farm just this past weekend.

My friend was nursing her newborn baby when one of the little girls at the party peered over and asked, "Why is she sucking your ARM?!?"

"She's not sucking my arm", replied my friend.

The little girl curiously asked, "She's not?" and then did a double take and exclaimed, "EWWWWW!!!! WHY is she sucking your BOOBY!?!?!?!"

My friend explained, "She's drinking her milk. That's where milk comes from."

The little girl merely replied, "Oh!" and ran off.

That was one of the funniest stories I've ever heard. Kids are hilarious! :)

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

Lake Huron Fish and Chips Co. GIVEAWAY!!!

One of my favourite spots on Manitoulin Island is without a doubt, Providence Bay. Beautiful turquoise/aquamarine water, white sand, and stretches upon stretches of gorgeous beach make one feel like they are in paradise.

What's even better is that close by this pristine island paradise is Lake Huron Fish and Chips Co. The restaurant/cafe is an established business and Lake Huron Fish and Chips is known for their fish and chips. Obviously!

What you might not know, however, is that the ownership has recently changed hands. Along with the new ownership comes new ideas, new faces, and new energy. I imagine Lake Huron Fish and Chips Co. will become a hub of excitement and quite possibly be "the place to be" in Providence Bay!

Matthew Garniss (the owner) has brought in some healthy additions to the menu. He has included a veggie sandwich and a variety of juices (among other options). My favourite by far are the Naked Smoothies!

Though standard fare at any fish and chips joint is fish and chips, if fish isn't your cup of tea, there are other options as well. The hamburgers are HOMEMADE and made from LOCAL ground beef. How amazing is that?!
The fries? Hand cut!
Breakfast is also offered. At the moment, bagels, muffins, cookies and coffee are offered beginning at 7AM. Lunch starts at 11AM and closing time is at 7PM.

Location: 20 McNevin St., Providence Bay, (Manitoulin Island) Ontario
Phone: 705.377.4500
Wed - Thurs: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
Fri - Sun: 7:00 am - 8:00 pm

Father's Day is Just Around the Corner!

When I was a kid, I'd always get my Dad a new tie for Father's Day. It seemed like "the thing" to give to Dad on Father's Day. Who knew that most dads never really wanted a tie for Father's Day! But, like any good parent, Dad graciously accepted his yearly tie. I never found out about his aversion to ties until I was in high school! He just had so many and he seemed to need that many for all the business trips, conventions, meetings, and whatnot.

Well, the good news is that all men look great dressed up...even if we can only get them all gussied up once a year or so! Even better is the fact that Mom vs. the Boys is having a fabulous giveaway! Just in time for Father's Day!

One lucky reader will win a tie of their choice by entering the contest here. ABC Neckties has a wide variety of styles and colours, and they are all very affordable!

Every man needs a few good ties! We've got three weddings this summer and we're in two of them! Hubs definitely needs a new tie for the occasions! The groom for one of the weddings is giving his groomsmen ties, but Hubby's on his own for the other weddings. Remember, I married a farmer. He cleans up pretty nicely, but getting him to wear a suit and tie is like pulling teeth. I donated/gave away/threw out his old ties because they were so outdated and...well, UGLY! Ironically, he seemed attached to the one I hated the most. I called it his KFC tie! You know Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken? Well, Hubby's tie looked like the one Colonel Sanders wears in the KFC pics.I'm not sure if Hubby was actually joking when he said he couldn't part with his KFC tie. I sure hope he was joking!!

Definitely time for a new tie. ABC Neckties, here we come!

While you're reading this, why don't you head on over to Mom vs. the Boys? :)

If This Doesn't Give Me A Heart Attack, I Don't Know What Will!

I had just gotten home from work, the baby was miserable from heat exhaustion, we still had a lot of work to do on the farm and on the house, and did I mention that it's been sweltering hot here? It's unusual for this time of the year. I don't do well in extreme heat. I've learned that Little One doesn't either. She doesn't seem to be able to regulate her body temperature well and on her own yet. Poor thing. She was listless, weak, miserable and clingy. All traits that are very uncommon for her.

The phone rang.

Me: Hello?
Man: Hello. Good afternoon. May I speak with Ms. [insert my real name here], please?
Me: (All of a sudden feeling nervous for some unknown reason) This is she.
Man: Ms. [insert my real name here], I'm with Revenue Canada and we would like to conduct an audit on Tuesday.

Image found via Google Images

I don't know why, but I started to panic. Revenue Canada has absolutely no reason to audit us, so I don't know why I reacted that way.

Me: Oh? Ummm...okay.
Man: We will come by on Tuesday of next week. We will be sending a team of nine men and we'll need to see all of your farm books. Does Tuesday work for you?
Me: (checking the calendar) Hmmm...Tuesday? What's the date?

LAUGHTER.
Man: [insert my real name here], I'm kidding! It's [insert friend's name here]!!!

Right about then, I hear a SMACK! Apparently, my friend's wife didn't think that was a funny joke and hit him upside the head!

Can I tell you how freaked out I was?! I don't know why though. We are law-abiding citizens. We do things "by the book" all the time. I'm afraid to break rules. I blame it on my Roman Catholic upbringing. You know, that Roman Catholic guilt where if you do anything you're not supposed to, you'll be punished severely for it? Yeah, that guilt.

Thank goodness it was just a joke. Man, I don't know if I'd have all our books ready for an audit if we had one on Tuesday! I almost had a heart attack.

What's the best prank a friend has ever played on you?

And, They Call It Puppy Looooove...

Chance was my first baby. My first canine baby, that is! He entered my life back in October 2002. It was love at first sight. It may sound odd, but the moment I first held him, I felt so much joy and love. There's just something about babies (even furry, four-legged babies!) that melts my heart.

Though I vowed that I would never spoil my children, when I got Chance, that rule got tossed out the window.

Chance had pampering sessions at the groomer's twice a year. This included a wash, shampoo, hair cut, nails clipped, and Chance getting all primped and prettied up in a brand new bandanna (he refused to wear a bow).

I also spent a lot of time with Chance at the park and walks by the ravine. Yes, the ravine. You see, I lived in the city and unlike where I live now, we didn't have beautiful beaches close by where I could take Chance every day.

Chance also went everywhere with me. I took him on the bus and subway with me. He even accompanied me to New York once! Oh, and the shopping! Once a month, I'd take Chance to Pet Smart and I'd let him pick out a new toy.

Then we moved to an island and I married a farmer. Chance's city life changed forever. He was no longer the spoiled little canine baby he was in the city. Now he has hundreds of acres to run around on. He is free to play all day long and isn't cooped up in a tiny apartment. He gets to go to the beach and swim. He's constantly COVERED in burs because he likes getting into places he shouldn't be (like bur patches!) and he always looks so dishevelled and unkempt. He's a happy boy though.

He's even happier now that he has a little sister. Okay, she may be his human sibling, but he loves her nonetheless!

"Please don't lick my face! Please don't lick my face..."
"Ewwww! No face washes, please!"
"Here! Take my toy cow instead! Just stop licking my face!"

Have Your Cake and Eat it Too! An awesome GIVEAWAY!!!

What a silly expression. Why would you have a cake and not eat it?

Anyway, I am so very excited to share this with you. There's a new business in Toronto that specializes in event planning. The Right Events is run by a wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable, fun and dynamic husband and wife duo.

If you're in Toronto or the GTA, you may want to consider them for your next function. Their vision and meticulous attention to detail will amaze you. Who needs to fuss with details and planning if you can avoid it?

I love the planning part and thrive on the craziness of organizing all the food/menu, decorations, and everything else. That's just me though. Sometimes, however, I would just like to kick back and let someone else do all the work...so I could just kick back with my guests and not worry about a thing. I would much rather have Ryan and Erin plan my events instead!!!

Not only do Ryan and Erin run The Right Events, but they also make CAKES!!!
Here are but a few of their latest creations:

Of course, it only gets better! One very lucky reader will WIN A CAKE ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR YOU by Erin and Ryan at The Right Events! The lucky winner will be chosen at random.

How great is THAT!? If you've got a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion coming up (Ummmm...Father's Day perhaps?), what better way to celebrate than with a fantastic cake?!

Here's how to win:

1) Leave me a comment (MANDATORY) and let me know what your favourite cake is or what kind of cake you'd like The Right Events to make for you.

Additional 2 entries per each of the following:
2) Follow me via Google Friend Connect (on my sidebar).
3) Follow me via Twitter (@chancesmommy) and tweet this contest.
4) Grab my button (on my sidebar).
5) Blog about this contest and send me the link to your post.

6) An additional FIVE entries if you head over to The Right Events and follow them via Google Friend Connect and leave them a comment on their blog!!!

**Contest open only to residents of Toronto and the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Deadline for entries: May 25, 2010.**

When I'm STRESSED I Do THIS...

Yes, it's pretty crazy. I completely clean out my fridge when I'm stressed out. I take EVERYTHING out, chuck all the old stuff, wash all the compartments and shelving down, sanitize and disinfect everything, and arrange everything with all the labels facing frontward. This odd practice usually takes place around 2 or 3 AM. These efforts often seem in vain, since the very next day, Hubby disrespects the "labels facing frontward rule" and the "milk goes in the milk spot", "no meat products go in there unwrapped", "please put the veggies back in the veggie compartment" rules. *sigh*

If I weren't crazy enough, I also did this...
I painted a growth chart onto our wall so we can keep track of Little One's growth on there. I know, I know. Way to encourage our toddler to NOT write on our walls, right?

I did this too...
I made a second tutu for Little One. The original one I made was plain white tulle with blue and white ribbon accents. Attempt number two has pink and white tulle with pink iridescent ribbons. My little monkey just LOVES her tutu. She wants to wear it ALL DAY and wants to wear it when we go out. We had supper at our friends' and she wanted to wear her tutu to their house the other night!!

Either I'm nesting...or I'm just nuts to be doing all these extra projects. You know, since I've got so much free time on my hands. :)

Psssssssssst!!! I'm hosting an amazing giveaway on my reviews blog! Check it out!
