Change
Every Spring, I go through the same ritual. It's almost like clockwork. I get that restless, panicky, stressed out feeling. I get that need for change.
Every Spring, I don't just do Spring cleaning. It's more like Spring purging.
I open up all the windows, get the lighter, brighter bedding out and onto the beds, and I just purge the house of things we do not need or use.
It actually disturbs me that we have so many things. We have too many things.
Every Spring people who need clothing or other items benefit from my crazy upheaval of our household items.
Every Spring I also do this...
I grow tired of my "look" and need to refresh, revitalize, re-energize.
This time, I let my hairdresser work her magic on me. Yes, I placed all my trust in her and told her to do whatever she wanted to do.
She cut off a few inches of hair, gave me some fun layers, and did this cool ombre hair colour treatment on the tips of my hair!
When Spring rolls around, do you feel the need for change too?

Conquer the Cold Giveaway #PGMom
Are you dreaming about lazing on a tropical beach, listening to the waves crash on the shore? It's Winter in Canada, folks! Many of us love the outdoors and activities that Winter brings, right? Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, skating, hockey, sledding, snow fort building, snow angel making, and snow ball fights! Right?
As fun as all of the above are, we all know that unforgiving Winter conditions (Brrr! Freezing temperatures, windchill, and yikes...harshness on our hair with dryness of air from furnace or electric heaters!!!) all make our skin dry and itchy, and make our hair frizzy and uncooperative. Tell me you love the way you get static from removing your tuque?
To conquer the cold, P&G would like to share the following:
The Issue: Kinky, curly, wavy and unruly frizz
The Cause: Some hair types, like curly and coarse tresses, are just naturally prone to frizz, but more often than not, frizz is a sign of damaged hair. The combination of outdoor air and indoor heating can do a number on your strands, causing frizz, fly-aways and dryness.
The Solution: Moisture. Start by using a shampoo and conditioner designed to fight frizz. Don’t be afraid to skip washing daily - it’s unnecessary and hard on hair. Try to air-dry your hair when possible to help reduce split ends from heat damage. And always use heat-protecting products before heat-styling to help protect your hair from high temperatures and unnecessary breakage.
Product to try: Herbal Essences None of your Frizzness Shampoo and Conditioner’s serum-infused formula moisturizes hair with the right amount of conditioning ingredients for lusciously soft and shiny hair. $4.49* each
The Issue: Delicate hair
The Cause: Blow-drying and heat-styling tools can contribute to more breakage during the winter. Blistery snowy weather also tends to wet and freeze hair in the cold leading to additional breakage.
The Solution: To help avoid winter breakage, it’s important to get regular trims every eight weeks. Split ends split upwards, so the less one trims, the more breakage they will experience. It’s also important to practise a good at-home daily hair routine in between cuts to avoid breakage and keep hair moisturized. Protect hair against damage from the cold outdoors and styling heat by applying a moisturizing mist that’s designed for daily use.
Product to try: Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Moisture Mist strengthens dry fragile hair against damage and preps it for styling. Try the Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal line (Shampoo, Conditioner and Silky Moisture Whip) for added damage control. $5.99* each
Conquer the cold with a great giveaway from P&G!

The Issue: Parched skin from battling ‘Old man winter.’
The Cause: Dry furnace air, wind burn and warm clothing can lead to dry, flaky and itchy skin.
The Solution: In the winter months you should moisturize at least once a day and more if you’re prone to dry, flaky skin. Look for moisturizers with petrolatum or mineral oil to prevent evaporation and water loss from the skin.
Product to try: For an immediate burst of moisture, try Olay Ultra Moisture Lotion. This lotion contains petrolatum and replenishes and nourishes skin’s moisture barrier to break the cycle of dry skin. In one week, your skin will feel noticeably soft. Pay special attention to areas that are prone to dry out quickly, such as hands, elbows, knees, ankles and toes. Adults need about 20 ml - approximately a shot glass - of lotion to cover their entire body. $10.99*
My Thoughts:
I've been a fan of Herbal Essences since I was in high school. I love the one that adds volume to my hair. Plus, I love the way it smells! I'm excited to have these as part of my Winter arsenal!
I have also been a fan of Pantene because it always makes my hair feel smooth and silky. I switch between Herbal Essences and Pantene. I guess you can say I'm a loyal brand user, but I not monogamous when it comes to hair products. Sometimes my hair needs Pantene, other times it needs Herbal Essences.
The one product I absolutely love and cannot live without is Olay Ultra Moisture Lotion. I get extremely dry, cracked skin in the Winter. My feet are an issue. So dry, cracked, and unsightly. My four year old daughter LOVES getting out the Olay Ultra Moisture Lotion and giving her Mama a "foot massage"! Her idea, not mine!
The Olay Ultra Moisture Lotion really works in moisturizing skin well and leaving it feeling soft and smooth.
You know how I feel about the products. Do you want to try them too?

Special Occasions with Lavish Dream
Having a fabulous hairstyle is just as important as having an amazing outfit. When your hair looks awesome, you feel awesome. Am I right?
With all the occasions and events coming up, I've been dabbling with different styles and ways to wear my hair. I'm really excited to be a Lavish Dream blogger so I can test out the extensions I was sent as part of the program. I was surprised to see how popular extensions have gotten recently. A lot of the high school students (including Little One's babysitter) wear hair extensions. Ha! I never even knew! They look so natural. Here I was being super jealous of Little One's babysitter's gorgeous locks! She's got them in all sorts of funky shades too. One time, she was sporting a few hot pink extensions interspersed among her naturally blonde hair. The look was really cool and edgy.
While I am not a teenager anymore, I've opted for a more subtle and subdued shade (as close to my natural colour as possible), but the extensions provide length and volume to my just above shoulder length hair.
I'm attending the ShesConnected social media conference in Toronto this October and I've been dabbling with hairstyles. We're having a big party that weekend, and I want to look and feel great amongst my peers. I love any occasion where I get to dress up and feel pretty. I know a woman should dress up and feel pretty every day, but with a young child, hectic life, and very little sleep, I do not always feel my best.
GETTING USED TO LAVISH DREAM HAIR EXTENSIONS
At first, the extensions took some getting used to. I initially felt it a little awkward to insert on my own. I would love to have my own personal hairdresser do my hair every morning. No, I'm not kidding! However, after a few tries, I became more and more comfortable using the extensions and it became easier to create the looks I wanted.
Thanks to the instructional videos that Lavish Dream provides, you can see how to take care of your Lavish Dream hair, how to style your hair, blend it, do different hairstyles, etc. The following video was really helpful:
I should have watched the above video before attempting to use the extensions! Honestly, it makes things so much easier!
FEEDBACK FROM OTHERS
One of my best friends came over and I happened to be wearing my Lavish Dream extensions. She's an art teacher and is into fashion and loves accessories and hair styling. She even organized and put on a fashion show last year. She was very impressed (and very excited!) about the hair! She was amazed at how natural it looked and how it totally changed the way I looked.
Just so you can see the dramatic change, this is a photo of what my hair currently looks like (below). I've got really fine, mousy, uncooperative hair.
I am looking forward to continuing to test out my Lavish Dream extensions and experimenting a bit more with them! My next post will include a video and some hairstyles I've tried out and worn at events! Stay tuned!

Lavish Dream
I have a secret. I've always been jealous of women with lots of thick, voluminous hair. Mine is straight, flat, thin, and fine. Even if I spend hours trying to get volume by using product, velcro rollers, big round brushes, and a hairdryer, my hair only ends up flat again within an hour or so. Yes, my friends. I have hair envy.
Hair, make-up, accessories, clothing...all fun to play with and change up your look from time to time. The above photos are of me with my mousy, frustrating, uncooperative hair and me with the Lavish Dream hair.
Hair really does change a person's look and the way a person feels. You know that feeling you get when you step out of a salon? You feel fabulous and invincible! Yes, that feeling. You feel like a million bucks because you look gorgeous. A good haircut and a good style will often do the trick. I don't know about you, but I am sometimes tempted to ask my hairdresser to live with me so she can do my hair for me every day!
I also have to say that since I left my life in the city and moved to the countryside, I feel I don't look or dress the same as I did in the city. Now, going out without make-up is not uncommon. Running errands in town with my hair in a ponytail all the time is also the norm for me. I was starting to feel a bit frumpy. Sure, when you live in the countryside and 'dress up' or wear make-up, people look at you a bit funny. I can't wear my sexy heels or gorgeous boots out because the roads are gravel and I'd probably break my ankle! Plus, where am I going to wear fancy shoes to? The barn?
I was shocked (and excited!) when Lavish Dream asked me to be one of their Lavish Dream Bloggers. The timing couldn't have been more perfect! Yay! I get to reclaim some of my grooming habits from when I was in the city! I have friends who use extensions and I never knew that they did!
Honestly, you would never ever guess that some of my friends use extensions. It looks just like their own hair! They use them to give volume, length, and to just have more fun with their hairstyles. A few friends have used funky colours (great if you don't want to dye your hair all different colours) and some use their natural hair colour.
Here's a closer look...
I'm not sure if you can tell, but there is quite a bit more 'body'. I still haven't mastered how to use them and found it a little challenging to place on myself because I couldn't see what I was doing. I think I'm going to get a friend to come over and help me next time.
This is what I received:
This is what the hair looks like. The easy to use clip in hair extensions are made with the finest quality human hair. You choose the shade that is closest to your hair colour. You can create length, fullness, and thickness all the while looking natural.
I have to admit that my first time trying the Lavish Dream hair extensions had me feeling a little nervous.
First impression:
- The quality is superb
- The pieces were a little heavier than I had expected them to be
- Putting them in was not difficult, but it was a bit awkward doing it to my own head of hair when I couldn't really see what I was doing
- It looks like my own hair
- The length was a lot longer than I expected
- Overall experience was great
I'm excited about the look and am hoping to master using them. Thank goodness Lavish Dream instructional videos! Yes, they have online tutorials!
Lavish Dream shows you everything from How To Choose Your Perfect Shade, How To Clip In Lavish Dream Hair Extensions, How To Wash Your Lavish Dream Hair Extensions, How To Blend Lavish Dream Hair Extensions With Your Hair, and more! To view videos, check out their website!
