Somewhere Over the Rainbow
My little four year old was in bed and listening to this song this morning:
We spent some of the morning doing something we don't normally do. Instead of jumping out of bed, quickly getting ready and rushing out the door (yes, even on the weekend!), we cuddled in bed and listened to some of her favourite songs.
It was a beautiful moment. It reminded me of how life is filled with so many beautiful moments. We just need to slow down sometimes in order to really enjoy them.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

* Israel Kamakawiwo`Ole's lyrics are a bit different. LOVE his version of the song.

City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

What a version of the song, Christine! I love Hawaii, and I love how they mixed reggae into the song.

Love that tune! Also, I have to say that your blog header is adorable! My son is sitting on my lap now saying "moo". :)
Beautiful post. Thank you for the reminder to take a step back and enjoy the little everyday moments. I love that song too.
Beautiful post! Thanks for sharing! So often we need to slow down like you say and just simply enjoy! This is one of my favorite songs since I was a little girl - so magical!
My favorite version of this song. It was very cool to listen to it while cuddling my son this morning. We often take time, one day at a time is our motto.
Love this! Played it for my boys and they were mesmerized. Thanks for sharing.

I am very familiar with this version of this song and agree it's awesome! The best version for sure. Thanks for sharing!
Every time I hear this version, I think of Adam Sandler. It is the best version of Over the Rainbow. My daughter too loves it. Now I want to go watch 50 First Dates (because yes this version is in that movie & makes me tear up every time hehe!)
I absolutely love morning cuddles in bed and try to do it as often as I can. I know she will eventually stop wanting to cuddle!
