Go away and never come back!!!

You followed me home sometime last week and you don't seem to want to leave me alone! You're making me miserable. Sleepless nights, tossing and turning, painful coughing fits, the chills, cold sweats, and broken blood vessels around my eyes from coughing are only some of the many fine presents you gave me.

First, I tried my *cider vinegar potion. It usually does the trick. Nope. Not this time.
Then I tried my *ginger tea recipe. Despite the horrible taste, you still stuck around!
I tried orange juice and chicken noodle soup for a few days. Nothing. You're still here.
I tried taking a hot bath and letting the steam clear up my chest. It worked for a while, but then you returned.
I tried filling the sink with hot water and a few drops of eucalyptus oil and hovering over the sink with a towel over my head so I could breathe in the steam. That was only a temporary fix.
I even slathered on the Vicks vapo rub and you still wouldn't leave!
I don't like taking medicine, but since nothing seems to work, I had to whip out the big guns. Sweet Hubby went out and bought not one, but TWO types of medicine for me!
First, I tried to get rid of you with Benylin. You still wouldn't leave me alone!
I had no choice but to try Buckley's. The commercial on TV says "It tastes awful, but it works".

I thought that would certainly drive you away. I was wrong.

I even psyched myself into believing that I was better and that this pesky little cold was gone. I went out with some girlfriends on Saturday and had a delightful time. I was not going to let you ruin things for me. However, when I got home, things were a zillion times worse. You seem like you just don't want me to get better!

My mother-in-law came to the rescue yesterday and sent over her vintage Hankscraft steam vaporizer and humidifier. Last night was the first night in almost a week that I was able to get more than two hours of sleep! Two whole hours of uninterrupted sleep! Two hours with no coughing fits! Two hours of clear breathing!

Now please go away and never come back! My husband doesn't like sharing the bed with you. Personally, I'm getting pretty annoyed with all the crumpled up tissues on my nightstand. Enough already!

* Cider vinegar recipe: 1 cup of hot water, 2 Tbsp cider vinegar, 1 tsp honey (optional). This recipe really works well in killing off bugs and making your throat feel better.
* Ginger tea recipe: 1 cup hot water, 1-2 Tbsp ginger powder (depending on how strong you want it). You can use fresh ginger root, but the powder works too if you don't have any fresh ginger on hand. This is a strong tasting drink, but works wonders on sore throats. It also has a warming quality to it. Not my favourite flavour but I force myself to drink it when I'm sick.

Oh my goodness that sounds just awful! I'm so sorry you've been suffering like this - hope you get A LOT more two hours sleep tonight!

I don't get them often, but when I do they just seem to insist on hanging around for a week or ten days. When someone invents a cure, that person can write his own ticket to wealth.

Thanks! It's pretty brutal. I think Hubby thinks I'm a bit of a drama queen because last night I was suffering so much, I told him to just put me out of my misery! LOL! This sounds a bit gross, but I started throwing up a bit of blood. I think it's from coughing really hard though. Gah! I just wish this bug would go away!

Jan:
Same here. I'm hardly ever sick, but when I do get sick, oooh boy! It's nasty!

Deb:
I'm tellin' ya, it's horrible! I hate being sick...especially when it's gorgeous and warm out!!!

Hot Mommy:
Thanks! You're too sweet :) After working, Hubby came home and did the groceries. I was pretty surprised! He also brought a few extra presents. He brought me chicken noodle soup, a few more boxes of Kleenex, Fisherman's Friends and Halls in bulk...LOL! Hubby is ever so practical! :)

mrinz:
Thank you! Hopefully I'll get around to catching up on my favourite blogs soon. It's been ages since I've been able to sit down and read up!

LOL! You are such a goofball! :) If all else fails, I just may try that Hot Toddy! ;) If I can't get rid of the cough and nasty stuff, maybe if I'm out cold I won't notice how horrible this bug is! j/k

Jimmy:
LOL! You're too funny :) Thank you! XOXO

You are having a bad time, aren't you. Hey, I left a comment this morning here when I finally moved. I'm sure it was witty as all git out. That's the way my day has been going.
Feel better, chilly hugs from down under.

Oh man, I feel your pain. I had that last month and it was so aweful. I hope this is the end of it for you. Here's to a restful night.

We had that SAME VAPORIZER! It finally gave up the ghost a few years ago, but it came from Ted's childhood, and helped us through many a cold.

You know what works for me, and well? Mucinex. A doctor prescribed it to me (though it's over the counter) when I tried and failed to cough up a lung in her office once. Take the full dose (pill, so no yucky taste!) with a large glass of water, and it will clear your chest up. That and the humidifier should bring you some peace. I hope you're better SOON.

Oh C, hope you're getting better soon! There's one thing worse than a cold in winter, it's a cold in the spring. Are there some allergies in there too?

Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight, sweetie!

I hope you feel better soon! I'm so tired and in so much pain, I'll have to catch up on people's blogs later after I get some sleep...

but of course I'll have to drop by your blog first and say hi before I go to sleep.

p.s. Your postcard is in Tokyo mail.

yup you've got that pesky cold that is making its way around the country!
My brother in BC has it, i now have it and so do both hubby and DS...lucky you can actually take something for it other than honey tea with lemon (which doesn't work!!)
Hope you feel better soon!!

Hope your day is going better than Monday :) Hugs XO

Beachmama:
Thanks :) I'm rarely ever sick, but when I do get sick, it's really, REALLY bad :( Just hope the coughing fits (okay, they feel almost like spasms! The entire bed shakes!) cease because poor Hubby isn't getting a restful sleep either :( I just hope he doesn't get sick!

Thank goodness we don't have any students staying with us right now! I wouldn't be able to handle the 24-7 teaching/hosting/field trip thing right now!

Really?! That's too funny! This thing is ANCIENT!!! It does work wonders though! It's amazing!!! Thanks for the Mucinex tip! I think I'll try that!

Karen:
Thanks! You're so sweet! :) I do have allergies, except when I moved to the Island my allergies seemed to have gotten better for some reason. Weird, eh? I've just caught this bug when I was in Montreal and man, does it feel like it's never going away!

Trish:
Thank you :) I'm off to read your blog in a moment. XO

Jenn:
Thanks for popping by! Thanks for the well wishes too :) Off to read your blog after I post this :)

Yeah, I heard that there's a terrible bug going around. Hope your hubs and the little guy are feeling okay. It always breaks my heart when babies are sick. Not that I'm not sympathetic when adults are sick, but it's different when it's a kid. My little nephew was sick and he's only one so can't tell us what's wrong or what he needs. He's got that runny nose and you can hear the mucus in his chest. Poor baby.

CK:
Hey, love! Thanks for popping by even if you're on vacation! I really envy you for being able to jet set to amazing locations right now! You've visited some of my FAVOURITE places in Japan!! Lucky girl! Have an amazing rest of your trip! Thanks for the post card. Love ya! XOXO
