Excited to be a Kellogger!

In our house, we go through cereal like it's going out of fashion.  I'm not kidding!  Our family eats a lot of cereal. Hubby and Little One start their day off with a bowl of cereal, milk, and fruit every morning.  I alternate. Sometimes I have steel-cut oats with flax seed and sometimes a bowl of Raisin Bran.

Hubby and I have had disagreements over cereal.  He LOVES cereal.  I try to keep away from carbs.  It wasn't until two years ago that I started eating cereal regularly again.  Our doctor was telling me how a serving of cereal in the morning is actually healthy for you.  I was pretty bad in my teens and early 20s and used to skip breakfast.  Now I realize the value of eating a healthy breakfast in the morning.

Facts I learned about cereal:
  • Cereal can provide good nutrition. Cereals rank as one of the best choices available as part of a nutritious breakfast.
  • Cereal is typically a low fat, nutrient dense food with many essential vitamins and minerals.
  • In addition to delivering important nutrients and essential vitamins such as iron, B vitamins, and zinc, cereal also delivers the important benefits of grains, including fibre.
Since our family is a cereal family, being part of the Kelloggers Network is very exciting for us!
Check out some of the cool Kellogg's items we were sent today!
We were sent a very cool Kellogg's Froot Loops t-shirt, two cereal bowls, All-Bran Orange Cranberry Bars, Rice Krispies Brown Rice Gluten Free Cereal, Cinnamon Pops, Mini-Wheats Centres (mixed berry), Rice Krispies Granola (2 flavours: Cocoa and Strawberry).
Everyone wanted to taste test the goods!
My favourite is the All-Bran Orange Cranberry bars.
I was explaining to Little One that these tasted like orange and cranberry - two of her favourite things!
 Little One appoved.

Cool Kellogg's Facts:
  •  Kellogg Company was founded in 1906 as the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company by W.K. Kellogg.  His signature remains the Kellogg's logo to this day!
  • Kellogg's Vector meal replacement is available exclusively in Canada! I had no idea! Vector is my sister-in-law's favourite cereal! It's pretty much the only cereal she eats!
  • Kellogg's was one of the first to print detailed nutritional information on packaging!
  • In 1915, with the invention of Kellogg's Bran Flakes, the world's first high-fibre breakfast cereal, the company began its 100-plus year commitment to fibre.
There are so many interesting things I've been learning about Kellogg's. I'm in awe! My brothers and I grew up eating Kellogg's Rice Krispies and Frosted Flakes! As kids brought up in the 1980s, we were very aware of TV commercials.  We used to love to pour milk on our Rice Krispies and make them go "Snap! Crackle! Pop!" like on the commercials!

Corn Pops continues to be my mom's favourite cereal.  I remember growing up that Corn Pops was Mom's cereal!  Just thinking of Kellogg's cereal makes me think of my childhood!

I have to say that I'm an All-Bran fan.  Please, don't laugh!  Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm keenly aware of what I eat and want to make sure I have a lot of fibre in my diet. Fibre is a good thing, people!

What cereal was YOUR favourite as a kid? What cereals do you enjoy today?

Disclosure - As a member of the Kelloggers Network, we received a variety of Kellogg's products, plus some branded items.  This is a personal blog. All the opinions on this blog are honest and my own.

I just love those all bran bars, I got those in my package as well and they were just amazing! Little Man loves the granola bars and surprisingly the Gluten Free Rice Krispies! They have almost NO sugar at all so they are Mommy Approved as well. Husband LOVE the Cinnamon Pops! I love it all! LOL! And the bowls are AMAZING!

When I Was a kid my fave was always fruit loops!

Oh man. Growing up we always had a variety of cereals in the house. At one point there was this cereal that tasted like little waffles with maple syrup and butter, omg I loved that. it was short lived though.

Staples in the house were Cheerios with a disgusting amount of sugar on them, Frosted Flakes, Rice Cripsies (again with the added sugar), Crispex later on (and when it was on sale), Raisin Bran, Captn Crunch and Crunch Berries, oh and Lucky Charms. Funny how I totally grew up on those sugar cereals, and being ok with piling on the sugar and now they just don't exist to us... much. Later on I loved shredded wheat and sometimes frosted shredded wheat.

Now I'm a Steel Cut Oatmeal girl or Raisin Bran Flakes. And Eric and Elizabeth eat our stores' equivalent to Fiber One (twigs as we call them) or Wheatabix (neither which I like but man... i do not have a constipated kid!). she'd like it if I gave her Raisin Bran but she still doesn't expect the Raisins and chokes on them and frankly I only pick them out for her on the weekend :) She adores oatmeal though and will easily eat an adult helping or two.

I grew up a Cheerios and Rice Krispies girl (although our babysitter used to bring Honeycomb as a real treat!) Now I love Special K, but the Cinnamon Pecan was my favourite and I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I've heard of great results from women who go on a "cereal for lunch" diet. Something for people to consider if they're looking to make healthier choices.

Little One didn't like the cinnamon Corn Pops. She said they were "spicy", which is weird because the kid can eat hot peppers! lol

Hubs and Little One are big Cheerios fans. I have to get them the JUMBO double pack of Honey Nut Cheerios and I'm lucky if that lasts us even two weeks!
