Oh, Summer! Where Art Thou?

I cannot believe it's August and we've only had a few really hot "Summer" days! How truly odd that it just feels like one very long Spring! We have had a few great beach days, but as a whole, this Summer hasn't been that hot. I don't really mind though. I prefer being comfortable and I hate it when I can't sleep at night because it's too hot.

Yesterday just so happened to be a very hot, muggy, humid, icky, sticky day. Hubby gave me an Orange Creamsicle because I was craving one. I don't know why, but I just had to have one! I was dreaming about Orange Creamsicles! When Hubby gave me my frozen treat, I enveloped the cold, sweet, orange-cream Popsicle with my lips...and ended up getting my lips stuck frozen FUSED to the Popsicle!!! Panic struck and I yelped for Hubby to assist me. I couldn't open my mouth. My lips were seriously fused to the Popsicle. Of course, we all know that when something hot meets something cold, it sticks. We learn at a very young age that we do not lick or stick our tongues on a metal post in the dead of Winter. This same rule should apply to how to properly eat a Popsicle!

I waited a few seconds to see if my lips would come loose from the frozen hunk of sugar on a stick. Nope. Then I tried opening my mouth, but the pain was unbearable! The skin on my lips was still stuck! There was no way I was getting that Popsicle off my lips!!! I screamed (okay, it was more of a muffled groan) for Hubby. He tried to contain his laughter because I surely did not think it was funny at all.

"Don't pull your mouth off! Just wait a bit!"
*whimper-whimper*
"The heat from your mouth will melt the Popsicle and you will be able to pull free."
*sniff-sniff*
"Wait!" Don't rip your mouth off the Popsicle!"
*wah-wah*

Hubby looked at me and started laughing. I looked up at him, with tears streaming down my face because my lips hurt (I was still "attached" to the Creamsicle). I guess it must have looked a little funny that a grown woman of thirty-something years would manage to get her mouth fused to a Popsicle. Let me tell you, it was p-a-i-n-f-u-l. When I was finally able to free myself, my lips were burning. I seriously think some of the skin on my lips is still attached to that Popsicle.

Thank goodness it hasn't been an overly hot Summer. I don't think I can take any more Popsicle excitement.

hi c! omg! hilarious! sorry! reminds me of that little kid in "The Christmas Story" whose tongue was stuck to a pole!

for me, summer, unfortunately was over too soon. because of this new "modified year-round schedule" that my district adopted, my summer was severely truncated and i went back to work mid July instead of mid august.

i'm still enjoying summer though!

btw, i was watching the little league world series yesterday (Woohoo - my city is represented by Chula Vista Parkview - known as 'West' for the series. those boys are good!!!! they won 15 - 0!!!!), and I noticed that Canada's team (from Vancouver) had a couple of girls. In fact, i noticed that the girl who played first base, could be (most likely) Filipina! Her name is Katie Reyes. She looked Filipina to me! Awesome! Unfortunately, they lost to Mexico. Hopefully they won today. Our team did, beating New England 14 - 0.

OMG! *giggle* You poor thing. I'm so sorry you weren't able to fully enjoy your creamsicle as you had hoped. I LOVED those as a child! I haven't had one in probably 1-2 decades. I remember running my popsicles under the faucet for just a few seconds before devouring them as a child :)

As for summer, I couldn't agree more. Where did it go?!

I know it's not good to laugh at another's misfortune but the way you related it and especially when you described your hubby's reaction brought a chuckle to my day.

Stopped by to say hi and to let you know that I am having a Blogoversary Celebration today. I am giving away 2 gifts to 2 commenters on the giveaway post. Ends midnight tonight. Come on over to enter. I'm looking forward to seeing your entry.

Have a wonderful day!

Wow! That seems sooooooo early to be back at school! Does the school year end earlier then?

Oh! The Christmas Story! That has to be one of my fave movies ever! I totally forgot about the tongue stuck to the pole! Ha! Ha!

Hmmm...Katie Reyes may very well be Filipina! There are LOTS of Filipinos in Vancouver :)

Tee hee! Glad I can make you laugh! :) Now that I think of it, it WAS funny. Not at the time though! LOL! Man, was I ever scared!!! Ha! Ha!

Very smart to run it under the faucet first! You were a smart kid! Did you do that on your own, or did your parents teach you to do that? xo

hi c!
canada lost their 2nd game. they're out of the running. they're guaranteed one more game (consolation game). our team 'west' plays texas tomorrow (they are also 2-0 and have pummeled their opponents with 10+ run scores). our city is so exciting. there's going to be a parade when the kids get back (most are in 7th/8th grade). there's one Filipino kid on the team, Bradley Roberto. his mom and i went to the same elementary school/sunday school. small world! i saw her on tv cheering him on when he hit a home run. i never thought i could be excited about sports, but when kids from your home town/city are representing in such a positive way, it's really heartwarming. such a nice break from hearing about shootings/robberies/murders, etc.

hope all is well with you!!!

LOL!!! I KNEW you would say something like that! LOL! Too funny! I was actually waiting for your comment!!

Your word ver is so funny. Sawshe! Sounds a bit Trinidadian! My Dad's family is Trinidadian and I actually heard someone say "sawshe" on the weekend! I think my Dad and his sister were talking about someone they went to school with and said, "I saw she last time I went Trinidad! She lookin' good, boy!"

Robert:
Oh! Funny you mentioned "rest"! That is something I have been terribly lacking the past few days!!! The baby will not nap during the day!!

I was just about to say that I didn't know you were such a sports fan!! ;)

That must be exciting though...to cheer on kids from your own city!

I come from a family of baseball lovers. My dad coached and started up a baseball clinic where he sent kids to play in the States and even helped some of them get baseball scholarships. Both my brothers played, and still play ball.

That's way too funny.

Hagan Daas used to have the best creamsicle EVER. I don't know why they stopped making it. They have something with raspberry sorbet and vanilla frozen yogurt. Feh. Give me the orange and the ice cream every time. SO good. I'd happily get my mouth stuck to one of those right now.

I know I know, you were in pain but that was totally adorable!

I also enjoy a good orange creamsicle but I must say I enjoy a Root Beer float creamsicle more. It's my mom's fault. It's her favorite.

OMG that sounds terrible. Ok hilarious too but so painful.
