We've Only Just Begun

*sniff*  In just a few days, my wee one will be getting on a school bus and heading into the world of Junior Kindergarten.  I guess I honestly didn't think this day would come so soon.  After her rough start and the roller coaster experience of life in the NICU, I just wanted to take each day as it came.  Not knowing whether Little One would be emotionally, mentally, or physically ready for school (because of her prematurity), I chose not to think about it too much.

Maybe that's not exactly true.  We did bring her to all her Neonatal Follow Ups, Preemie Pathway appointments, etc.  We prepared her as best we could for school, gave her an idea of what to expect, helped her try to learn her ABCs and 123s, etc.

Maybe I've been in denial though - You know...Thinking that the Summer would never end or that my wee one would stay wee forever?

Now, the big day is arriving.

This Wednesday, I'll be sending her off with her backpack and lunch - every single personal item labelled with Mabel's Labels.

Last night, I wept as I rehashed memories of her beginnings.  I thought of how Little One cannon-balled her way into existence without any doctors in the room. I remembered all the things we had to go through to finally be able to bring her home from Mount Sinai. At the time, all the obstacles just seemed so insurmountable.  Now, she's more than ready for school.  She may be the tiniest tot in JK, but she's healthy, active, clever, witty, and pretty darn funny!
She's excited and thrilled to be going to school.  She talks about her teacher and classmates ALL the time.

Me?

Still clinging onto what remains of the Summer.

Summer, please don't go.

All you mamas (and papas!) with kids starting kindergarten this week, I'll need you to hold my hand.

I am a teary mess every first day of school. Especially this year with everyone in full time school and my oldest going off to high school outside of town. Is Wed your first day? I will be thinking of you:) {hugs}

I'll be thinking of you too on the first day of school! They're doing Staggered Entry for the JK class - about 6+ students per day (T-W-TH) and then they all start together on F. LO's first day is Wed. Eeeek!

((HUGS)) She will come home from school with wonderful stories to tell you and you'll be able to get some work done without guilt. That first step is hard, but before you know it you'll both be hitting the ground running.

Because I need you to hold mine too! Your post has got me a bit teary just thinking about Tuesday (my little guy's first day).

I as much sad as I am nervous. My little guy doesn't want to go! He is digging his little heels in deep. Wish me luck. I just might need a phone call on Tuesday!!!

How could I not post on such a heartfelt post! Sending a super big (((hugz))) to you!! I don't have children - so I will never know what you are going through. I can only imagine - which would clearly not be near what it actually is that you are going through. Just think of the smiles she will bring you home as she relates her days events at school. Treasure those moments :)

Thinking of you on her first day of school! It will be wonderful for her, and you will look forward to hearing about her day when she comes home :) My son is so happy when in school and it makes me happy to see him like that. It'll be great! Might be hard at first, because she's your only child, but soon you'll both be used to the routine and love those long awaited hugs after school's done for the day ;)
