It looks like Manitoulin rock to me. LOL! I have no idea what those are.

Kristen:
:) It's pure cacao! It's not the cocoa that we're used to. It's quite bitter and not sweet at all. You have to add something to sweeten it if you want it sweet. It's also more like a cocoa tea! Milk makes it more like the hot chocolate we know though. I actually really like it!

LOL!!! It's actually cocoa balls. Pure 'cacao' made into balls and you make your hot cocoa with them!

Cool, why is the cocoa in balls like that? I'm used to it in powder form! Love the cinnamon in there; I like using the sticks to stir some types of herbal tea too!

OHM:
It's pretty neat! :)

Good question! LOL! I have no idea! Maybe this is a bit less processed?

I'm going to ask a girlfriend of mine to answer this for you. She is an expert at chocolate. She owns and operates Ultimately Chocolate and is a true chocolate connoisseur!

I've never seen it before but I generally find hot chocolate too sweet so this sounds good :)

I love making my own hot chocolate. I don't like super sweet beverages so it's nice to be able to control how much sugar and what type of 'milk' product to use. I love your photo, it's composed very well.

Kathryn and Christine,
It is likely cacao beans or nibs ground up in some sort of grinder, like your coffee grinder, blender, juicer or food processor and just when the machine starts to warm up the cacao sticks together and you can form it into balls with your hands or a mold. I make it all the time! (http://ultimatechocolateblog.blogspot.ca/2013/02/from-bean-to-bar-month-of-do-it-myself.html) But you can add sugar and vanilla bean (not extract) to the blender or coffee grinder and you will have a basic chocolate that is crunchy. Many hot cocoa makers call this "old fashioned" hot chocolate because 150 years ago they only had stone hand rollers to grind it up - so this was how chocolate and hot cocoa was made. You can buy nibs at health food stores and now many large grocery stores. I hope that helps!
