Quick Question..

Those of you who changed your last name when you got married...do we do that before or after the wedding? I was putting a list of various places I need to inform of my name change. Banks, driver's licence, health card, passport, credit card, etc.

I guess my question is when do I do the name change and also, do they change your last name on your Social Insurance card too? Speaking of which, better add Revenue Canada to that list!!

So much friggen paper work!!! Arrgh!

HEY CHRIS,
you have to do it after the wedding as you will need to take your marriage certificate with you when you go to the different offices. I changed my drivers license and health card first, then went to my banks and got new credit cards etc...once you have a couple of peices of ID it is easier to change other stuff. I changed my SIN card too which is optional.

Christine,
You have to do it after the wedding, with you marriage certificate in hand, It will not cost you anything to change. I like Dina did my drivers license and health card and SIN. We did the bank first because of depositing money that were in both our names. Don't forget credit cards and passport.

Yeah, after. You can do it at any Branch...I did mine at a Branch that was not mine. I did my SIN card, health card, credit cards (though not right away, and one still is not done) and driver's liscence, as well as my bank accounts. The only thing I did not do is my Birth Certificate. Some people do but I wanted mine to remin in my BIrth Name...oh and my passport as I needed to apply for it for the honeymoon. When I need to apply for a new one I will.

Damnit! Went to the bank to do my name and address change. Apparently I need my OHIP and driver's license done first! Grr!
