A Meme For All Foodies

If you're a foodie, you'll love this one :)

1. What's your #1 comfort food? My homemade cream of leek and potato soup

2. If you were on a deserted island, what one food would you want to have with you? Oh, man. I really, really don't know. Pad thai maybe?

3. What is/are your signature dishes? (What dishes are you 'known' for?) Hmmm...chicken parmesan, shepherd's pie, spinach/cheese quiche and my various cheesecakes?

4. It's Friday night, you don't know what to cook. You opt for...In the city I'd probably just go to an Indian, Thai, Italian, Greek, Japanese or Lebanese restaurant! Here on the Island, I'd probably have to quickly grab whatever ingredients I have and make something quick like a quiche or a fritatta.

5. What's your biggest weakness when it comes to food? Chocolate...but I only need a little taste and then I'm fine.

6. What food can you absolutely not eat? Japanese nato or eel. I can't/won't eat anything with its head still attached and I won't eat intestines, tongue, brain...blechhhh...I think I'm feeling a little ill.....

7. You need a drink. You grab a....lemonade. LOL! I don't know why that was the first thing that came to my mind. Ummm...if I needed a stronger drink then maybe a bellini or anything with Bailey's Irish Cream.

8. What's the most decadent dish you've had? Our wedding cake. It was a chocolate mousse cake made by the Garden's Gate Restaurant. Very delicious, decadent and gorgeous.

9. What's your favorite type of food? Thai, Japanese, Lebanese, Indian, Italian, Greek...

10. Favorite dish? Pad Thai

11. If your partner could take you to any restaurant you wanted, which one would it be? On the Island, definitely Garden's Gate. Elsewhere? Hmmm...I don't know. Maybe Tiger Lily Cafe on Queen St. in Toronto or Sushi Inn...or even Spring Rolls (though I know many people will disagree with me!). There are also a number of Korean, Japanese, Indian and Mexican restaurants I like in Toronto.

12. Are you a soup or salad person? Depends on my mood. I like them both.

13. Buffet, take-out or sit-down restaurant? Sit-down. I don't like buffets. I get ripped off and don't like the idea of promoting gluttony. Take-out usually means fast food or junk food, which I'm not a fan of.

14. What's the most impressive dinner you've ever made? Chicken parmesan, garlic pasta, spinach/mango salad with my own balsamic vinaigrette, and a strawberry/kiwi/peach cheesecake as the finale.

15. Do you consider yourself a good cook? I think I'm okay :) Actually, I think I'm pretty darn good, but I just didn't want to sound like a snob!

16. Do you know what vichyssoise is? Uhhh...yeah!! I can make a really good one too!

17. Who's your favorite TV cook? I really like Everyday Italian's Giada De Laurentis, the Barefoot Contessa's, Ina Garten.

18. Can you name at least three TV cooking personalities? Bobby Flay, Ina Garten, Rachael Ray (I don't like her though..lol).

19. Homemade or homemade from a box? Homemade from scratch, of course!

20. Name 3 or more other foodies you are going to tag. Ms. Mamma, Canine Cologne, Curiosity Killer, Jill, Miss Moneypenny (even if she doesn't have a blog, she's still a foodie), Dina, Northern Mom, Mama Doggy Love...and anyone else who wants to do this silly meme :)

LOL! Very cool. I didn't think anyone was going to even do this meme. Seriously, I am all memed out, but had to do this one.

AHMM: If you were on a deserted island, you'd have a Big Mac?? You crack me up, girl! LOL!

doggy mama: Can't wait to see your answers!

Pete: Valiant effort :) I know you hate these things, so I am very impressed that you even did it! Thanks for entertaining me!

Canine: Thanks for doing this :) When people tag me with a meme, I always feel compelled to doing them. It's just like those forwarded e-mail messages people keep sending me. I've gotta say that I don't even bother reading anything that has a "Fwd" in the subject box. DELETE! LOL!

In all seriousness, I was curious to see what your answers would be. I just love that you are one of the biggest foodies I 'know'. I love reading all your restaurant reviews and seeing all your food pics and recipes. BTW, did you finally get that package in the mail???

caninecologne said...

Hi there! i haven't received the package yet but i will let you know as soon as i do! :) looking forward to it!

Chocolate counts as a food?

Miss Moneypenny said...

You know me, Chris!

1. What's your #1 comfort food? A cup of tea and toast. Or a bowl of homemade soup with warmed baguette. Or anything my mum makes.

2. If you were on a deserted island, what one food would you want to have with you? Easy - pizza. I could happily eat pizza everyday - gourmet, low-brow and in between, I love it all! Back-up plan would be cereal. Or tea and toast.

3. What is/are your signature dishes? (What dishes are you 'known' for?) Probably Banoffee Pie, but also Vanillekipferl, which are German cookies I make at Christmastime. My family always asks me to make this roasted butternut squash I do as well.

4. It's Friday night, you don't know what to cook. You opt for...With the kiddos it would probably be pizza. Sans kids, I would go out for Indian.

5. What's your biggest weakness when it comes to food? Bread. With butter. And cheese. Mmmm...

6. What food can you absolutely not eat? Offal is awful - organ meats, brain, sweetbreads, tripe etc. I just can't do it.

7. You need a drink. Do I ever! A glass of red wine or a pint of Guinness would do quite nicely, thank you very much. Non-alcoholic choices would be tea or water. Or this True Blue Blueberry/Blackberry juice I'm addicted to - it's to die for.

8. What's the most decadent dish you've had? I've been to Susur twice for dinner and had the tasting menu - dish after dish of the most gorgeous food you could ever hope to eat. I also had Macadamia encrusted Mahi Mahi with a red wine reduction at Spago in Maui - that was seriously good.

9. What's your favorite type of food? I like simple European food best - Italian, French and I was just in Germany and the food was amazing. But I'll take a good curry too!

10. Favorite dish? can't pick

11. If your partner could take you to any restaurant you wanted, which one would it be? I'd go back to Susur again in a heartbeat.

12. Are you a soup or salad person? I like both - depends on how cold I am.

13. Buffet, take-out or sit-down restaurant? Sit-down for sure.

14. What's the most impressive dinner you've ever made? My first turkey dinner knocked everyone's socks off - Porcini rubbed roast turkey with a Shitake Madeira gravy. It was the best turkey I've ever had.

15. Do you consider yourself a good cook? I love to cook. I think I'm a pretty good cook. But I still can't make Jell-o. And I screwed up these no-bake Reese's peanut butter chocolate bar things the other night. How does that work...I can't figure that out!

16. Do you know what vichyssoise is? Yes.

17. Who's your favorite TV cook? I like Ina Garten. But my favourite cooking show is America's Test Kitchen on PBS.

18. Can you name at least three TV cooking personalities? Ina Garten, Nigella Lawson, Rick Bayliss

19. Homemade or homemade from a box? From scratch would be first choice, but I have no problem with the occasional box mix ( if I can figure out how it works, that is! )

Oh you know I don't cook! :D

Canine: Cool! Hope it arrives soon! Sorry it's not as exciting as the one you sent! LOL!

Miss Moneypenny: Great list! Love it! Can you come over and be my neighbour? We would have oh, so many great potluck suppers or gourmet nights! Ahhh...

Mist1: For sure! Chocolate IS considered a food category in itself...at least in my books it is!

t: Yes. I know you don't cook. You do however, always bring the most amazing restaurant/catered food to parties though! :)

Curiosity.Killer said...

Pfft. bellini or anything with Bailey's Irish Cream... that's kid's stuff. LOL
