Odds and Ends

1)
I took my love and I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too
Well...

Well, I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older, too
Well I'm getting older too

So, take this love and take it down
Year and if you climb a mountain and ya turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well the landslide brought me down
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well maybe
Well maybe
Well maybe the landslide will bring you down

Landslide was playing on the radio on my way home from running errands in town the other day. For some reason it made me really sad. It reminded me of my mom.

2) Do you ever have those days when there is absolutely no food on earth that you feel like eating? Food...absolutely all food just turns you off? You know you have to eat, but nothing suits your fancy? I get those days when nothing seems desirable or tempting except for...
I don't know why, but I have been craving clementines and only clementines for the past two days!

3) Chance was crate trained when he was a puppy. We've kept the crate because it's his space and he likes going in there to sleep. We keep the door open and he goes in and out as he pleases. The kittens have been really cheeky lately and have taken to sleeping in Chance's crate.
4) Hubby really likes Filipino food. For a 'meat and potatoes' country boy, he sure impresses me with his openness to new food and different cultures. I'm making Chicken Adobo for him and my parents tonight. It's a family favourite and the first Filipino dish I ever learned how to cook.

5) Ms. Mamma is my saviour saved my life cured my headaches. I've always suffered from terrible headaches and Sinusitis. Since I'm the type of person who hates taking any kind of pills or medicine (unless absolutely necessary), I either try to find a natural way of soothing the pain or I just suffer through it. Well, Ms. Mamma sent me what is now one of my new favourite things in the world! She sent me a Neti Pot!!! Let me tell you, this thing really works! You put some warm water into the Neti Pot and add the saline solution. Then you tilt your head and lift the spout to your nostril. Let the solution flow through one nostril and out the other. Repeat as needed and do the same to your other nostril.

I was a bit intimidated initially, because the thought of anything going up my nose and out just grosses me out. People, I am now in love with my Neti! Thank you, Ms.Mamma! You are a gem. I feel kind of badly now because all I gave you was a Dylon Whyte original chainmail bracelet and a Kool Aid Jammer lunch bag for Snowflake. You made my headaches go away! I sure love me some Dylon Whyte jewelry, but getting rid of my sinus headaches??? How can I ever thank you?! Gracias, amiga!

6) Trish from My Little Drummer Boys awarded me with this the other day:
Thank you for thinking of me, Trish! That was really sweet. I'm going to pass this along to:

Ms.Mamma- You make my day! You're a wonderful friend, an amazing mom, a talented photographer and arteest, and an incredible writer! Oh, and for another reason why you make my day...see #5!!!
Jane @ Pinks & Blues- You are a gem. Seriously! You always know the right things to say and when to say them :) You're great and I love being able to watch P&B grow! I remember when you just launched the site, and now you've got interviews with celebs, cool contests and a readership that has hit a total high (and it's still growing)!!!
Jeanna- I just love the friendly banter that you, Jimmy and I share. You crack me up. I always look forward to your comments. You're a great writer and you've got an amazing sense of humour! I love your blog!!!
Uncivil- You brighten up my day with all your hilarious comments and e-mail. I love how everything you say either begins or ends with a redneck joke. I less than butt you guys (Inside joke, in case anyone thinks that doesn't make any sense at all).
Curiosity Killer- You make my day because you always leave me the greatest comments. You're one of my greatest friends in real life. When we were in Toronto, we hung out a handful of times, but now that we've both moved, the distance has made us closer. You've been one of my only friends (Kathy, you too! Thanks for coming to visit every summer! Luv ya!) who has made it to the Island to visit me each year. Oh, and I'm excited about the Green Blog that you, Fancy, Hubby and I contribute to!
Ellie- You are a treasure and a very sensitive, caring soul. You make my day with all your kindness.
BeachMama, Lotus and Canine, you three also make my day! You're wonderful, smart, fun and funny (funny ha ha and not funny weird, of course)! Thanks!

Christine, thanks so much for that!! I was just finishing yet another day of painting, and packing, and feeling pretty darn worn out and frustrated, and I peeked on the computer and saw an email from you! Thanks so much, you are so sweet!
Hugs,
Ellie

Oh, Wow!....thanks C
I'll get back on here tomorrow when I can think! I've been working (actually doing manual labor) all evening helping a friend, and his nephew grind the paint off a concrete floor of a local resturaunt. Tonight was the only time he/we could do it and all his hired help wanted off for the Super Bowl?
I need to borrow your neti pot to get the concrete dust out of my sinuses!!!!!LOL!!
I feel so bad like I abandoned Ab & Em all afternoon. I'm so glad I have them to snuggle up to tonight.

Oh Chrissy - that is so sweet. Thank you so much for this. I'm so lucky to have bonded with you on the internet. I was just thinking last night... I'm lucky to have Chrissy as my friend - she's such a gem.

Thanks, Chrissy. *Hugs*

ok... so now i'm bummed a bit. my sister gave me a 'kewl looking' neti pot. it was clear blown glass with spec's of other colors in it. she told me it was a neti pot and the person that made it gave directions on how to use it. i was a little grossed thinking i hate it when i'm swimming and i get water up my nose. so i sold it in a garage sale cause it's too small for a teapot and i didn't want to display a neti pot. arrgh. I'm really really stuffed and now I wish I had one to use. I wonder if you can get one at CVS or something. yours looks plastic. i don't mind taking drugs for bad bad colds (like the one i have) but it sux cause i feel foggy. I need to go see Sweeney Todd, maybe that will make me feel better.

Awww, Chrissy, you're too kind. I less than butt you too.

I am amazed that your hubby likes Pinoy food =) Well also maybe because Filipino food IS tasty--and I love Adobo too.

Am glad you are feeling better =)

Ellie:
You're most welcome! I hope everything is going well where you are. Moving is always stressful (for me at least)! All the prepping, packing...but what's worse is having to UNPACK! LOL! Anyway, deep breath...I'm sure everything will be fine once all of the grunt work is done.

Uncivil:
I am SHOCKED! I really thought YOU would be watching the Super Bowl!!! Hubby and my dad watched it. Mom and I cleaned my oven! LOL! Yes, that's right. I invite my parents over for supper so I can get my mom to help me clean my kitchen. ;p My mom...that woman really knows how to clean. I clean, but she makes everything sparkly clean. We used to make fun of her and say that she's OCD. Man, can she clean! We're talking sterilized floors and counters, sinks and everything like in the hospital! Her bathroom is something else too! Hmmmm...maybe I should invite her over this week.

Awwww! Thanks! That was so sweet! It's true though. It's the same thing with some of my family members. When I lived in Montreal, we used to see each other a lot. Then we got older and busier. We hardly ever saw each other except for holidays, birthdays, etc. We lived 10 minutes away from each other but never saw each other. It happened again when I moved to Toronto. I hardly ever saw my family members. Toronto is so spread out that even if you're in 'Toronto', it could take you an hour to get from one end of the city to the other.

When I moved to the Island, one of my cousins started visiting us from Montreal. He loves it here so he's up every few months for a week at a time. He comes here maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

Christine:
Ohhhhh! Your Neti Pot sounds fabulous! I bet the person who ended up buying it was very happy!

I just checked the CVS site and they do sell them there. You're in luck!

Mine is plastic (which is great for me because I have the tendency of dropping things). The company that makes the one I have also makes porcelain ones.

Jeanna:
;)

I just read your Super Bowl post. LOL! You crack me up. You really didn't want New England to win???

Louann:
Thank you :) Hope all is well on your end too :) You're right about Filipino food! Hubby loves lumpia the most. He likes the lumpia Shanghai and I like the one with the veggies in it. What's your favourite Pinoy food?

Ms. Mamma said...

CHrissy- That's incredible about your headaches...and here as I was reading I thought you were going to say something about my green clementine! You're so more than welcome, dear heart! Your friendship is thanks enough, but I do say you have excellent taste and I love my special things from you.

And yeah...you and Jimmy and Jeanna...I feel left out now! Haw Haw! Just kidding. Love ya, girlfriend!

I just love my Neti...I feel kind of dirty when I don't use it!

I am glad your headaches are gone, that neti pot sounds great. Great pix - love the one of the oranges. I can't beleive Chance let's the kittens sleep in his bed! By the way did you get my message on your voicemail on the weekend? where were you? You didn't call me back!

Jan said...

I keep hearing about the neti pot and trying to work up the courage to try it. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

I keep thinking of getting a netipot...everyone raves about the relief they get. It's just so gross! But I know, I need to get past that part and give it a try, because I too am a sinus headache sufferer. Sigh. :)

Jeanna said...

New England, C.? Too perfect and I don't less than butt perfection. As much as I claim to reverse less than three the Packers, the Giants beat them, keeping them out of the Super Bowl. The only way for the losers to save face was for the Giants to win.
Plus you gotta love Strahan, Osi, and little bro'. And all this without Tiki. (Too much? I'll stop now.)

Us rednecks use what I'm gonna call a "neti napkin"! I mix up my saline concoction in a shot glass, then tear off a paper towel, crumple up one end of it and dip it in the concoction.
Then ya stuff the moistened portion up your nostril and snort like hell till your eyes water.

Unknown said...

Ms.Mamma:
Awww shucks! You're the best! BTW, you had me laughing at "I just love my Neti...I feel kind of dirty when I don't use it!" I just love my Neti too! Thank you!

T:
That's weird! I never got the message! TTYS though!

Unknown said...

Jan:
Thanks for popping by! I'm not sure how I found your blog. I think I surfed in via Jimmy's blog.

J:
That's exactly how I felt! The thought of putting anything up my nose was sort of off-putting. I'm the biggest wuss ever. I even have a miserable time putting mascara on because I don't like anything near my eyes! Imagine anything in my nose??? Anyway, Ms.Mamma spoke so highly of her Neti and I mustered up the courage and haven't looked back since. I was a major sinus headache sufferer. I now cherish my Neti!

Jeanna:
LOL! I dunno...My favourite colour is blue! NE wore blue and NY wore black. I don't know football, so...

LOL! I'm just playing with you. I'm not that dumb. To be honest, I thought that The Phantom Gourmet's Super Bowl episode was the highlight of Super Bowl Sunday! LOL!

Now, hockey on the other hand...that's a totally different story! ;)

Uncivil:
No way! You would NOT do that...Would you????

Anonymous said...

shit chris! is it just me or is your blog getting funnier and funnier each time you write a new post?

Anonymous said...

Ah, last summer I bought a nasal cleaning pot and I love it. I don't suffer much but when I'm congested it makes breathing feel much better! Nobody else in the house will even try it. Sissies! Glad you're headaches are gone!

Jane

HotMommy:

Lotus:
Oh, I think you'll love using the Neti! LOL...Look, Ms.Mamma's creating a Neti trend! ;)

Jane:

Thank netipot is so darn cute, it's hard to believe what it's used for LOL! glad it helped you though, we have weird sinus things in this family too, so may come in handy one day.

I love that song Landslide, but it does have a sad ring to it. I think about my kids growing up when I listen to it sometimes.

Congrats on the award, cool Ms C!!

Mrs. Mogul:
They don't have Clementines where you are? I am shocked! I thought one could get virtually anything and everything in most parts of the U.S.!

Christine:
:) Of course! I always like me some good 'ol linky luv! Yay for getting the Neti! Just make sure you don't leave it hanging around. We don't want the lovely SofieDove mistaking it for a tea pot!!! ;)
P.S. I love your blog!

Karen:
It is cute, isn't it? As I mentioned to Christine, make sure the little one doesn't mistake it for a tea pot! That's just icky and gross if you think of where that spout goes! LOL!

Landslide makes me feel that way too...except I think of how my adorable pooch and my kittens are getting older. *sigh* LOL! I know when we have human babies, I'll feel that way too! In the meantime, our fur babies are our first kiddies!

Gung Hey Fat Choy, Karen! xoxo
