My Special K Challenge #Kelloggers

Here's the thing: I have only in recent years been very conscious of my health. With health issues on both sides of  my family. Now that I'm getting older, I'm much more aware of the importance of staying healthy. I worry about heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. There are many contributors: age, genetics, stress, level of activity, diet, etc. The reality of poor health and the idea of dealing with mortality are very present...and it is scary.  If family members can become ill, so can I.

Now that I have a family of my own , I'm very conscious of what I feed myself and my family. We eat fresh, healthy, homemade food every day. We eat lots of vegetables and I make sure that we have a balanced diet, and I make sure that Hubby and I stick to proper portion sizes.

Even though we are very active and work outdoors every day, it's still not enough. I used to fill my evenings with yoga, walking, Zumba, and cardio with resistance training. Things got super busy with life, the farm, the kid, and I've only kept the daily walking as the only constant exercise. The cardio and resistance training happen maybe once or twice a week if I'm lucky.

As a Kellogger, we receive lots of great Kelloggs products. I perused the website and saw that there's My Special K Challenge section. Lose 6 pounds in 2 weeks. I am going to begin this week and will let you know how I fare.

My Special K is a great resource that helps keep me on track and motivates me at the same time. I can check out how I'm doing and track my progress. There are many tips to help achieve success. I can set my goal, make a plan, and put it into action.

I also received the New Balance Lightening Dry Tank Top (above). Made with quick wicking fabric, it keeps me cool and comfortable when working out.

I like the Special K Red Berries cereal. I can start off my day with a bowl of that!

What We Did During the Holidays (that I totally forgot to post) #Kelloggers

Though Little One is an only child, she is in constant company of other children.  We've got a great group of friends on the Island with children all around the same age as Little One and we get together on a regular basis.  Oftentimes, we take turns hosting a get-together, dinner party or play date. We always make sure to have fun and educational activities for the kids.

My friend and her husband went out on a date night and I took her kids for the evening. What to do with a bunch of kids that will keep them occupied for a while? Make Rice Krispie treats!

Edible art.
I was sent the above package to create Rice Krispies treats for the Holidays. The package came with two boxes of Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows, and all the decorations and embellishments required to create stunning treats.

I made the present and snowman below. I didn't know what to  use for the snowman's hat, so I used a fig!

 Quick. Easy. No Bake. Fun.

Ingredients:
3 tbps butter or margarine
1 pkg reg marshmallows (40)
6 c Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions:
Melt butter on low heat in a large saucepan.
Add marshmallows and melt completely.
Remove from heat.
Add Rice Krispies until evenly coated in melted marshmallow.

Lightly butter hands so they don't get too sticky with marshmallow. Form Rice Krispies treats into whatever shapes you desire.

Decorate.

Voila!

Ahhh...Life with boys! I only have a daughter, so seeing this Rice Krispie treat above made me laugh. My friend's son made a snowman that got shot in the chest with a candy cane. Of course, Optimus Prime in the background was the pièce de résistance!

I let the kids each have one Rice Krispies treat to eat while we watched The Lorax. When their parents came to pick them up, I sent them home with all their Rice Krispies creations.

For more fun recipes to try, visit the Rice Krispies page.

Spooky Rice Krispies Halloween Treats!

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year.  I love decorating our house and getting all decked out in Halloween costume! The creepier the better! Halloween is not just for kids! I think I'm more excited about it than Little One is!

Another thing I love is creating kitchen concoctions with my daughter. When Kellogg's sent us this awesome Halloween kit, Little One decided she wanted to make "SCARY JACK O'LANTERNS"! I had a feeling that in true Little One fashion, she wouldn't deviate from the plan and there would be none of the other fun stuff I wanted to do (like scary snakes, bats, tombstones, or zombies)!

What kid doesn't love helping out in the kitchen? I've had to learn to 'let things go' a bit and not be so hung up on the mess an almost four year old can make. I've been getting better at letting her do things on her own and worrying about the clean up after.
This is what we came up with!

Definitely a fun way to spend a rainy, gloomy, cold, Fall afternoon!
