Sicky

I thought I would be able to get through the winter without getting sick. I did pretty well...until Friday. There's a nasty flu/cold bug that's been going around for a few weeks and I managed to catch it. I was in bed all Saturday- every muscle in my body ached, I couldn't breathe due to congestion, and my head felt like someone drove a stake through my head...right between my eyes. *sigh* Well, enough complaining. You're probably thinking, "Hey lady, would you like some cheese with your whine??" LOL!

In order to try to get that yucky stuff out of my system so that I could breathe again, I have been drinking heaps of ginger tea (yuck) and I even tried snacking on some of those spicy snacky foods Canine sent me. I know they're meant to be enjoyed for their flavour, but did you know they also serve as a great decongestant? Spicy!! LOL! A big, fat thank you to Canine, because now my sinuses are clearing up. Man, that mango chili thing has got some bite! Zzzzzzzzzzzing! I think it caught Hubby by surprise, but he likes them. He really loves the lemon chili corn nuts too!

Since I was having probs sleeping (because I couldn't breathe), I tried to get this baby blanket finished for my mom. She wanted to crochet a baby blanket for my brother's baby (due in two weeks), but her hands are giving her problems. She taught me how to crochet in the car, on the way to Montreal for my SIL's baby shower. I hope I get that blanket done. I've got two weeks to go. Think I'll finish in time???

Chris, I thought you got the flu shot this year? Sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you get better soon. Pretty baby blanket! I wish you knew how to crochet baby blankets when I had our babies! LOL

Holy shit! Since when did City Girl turn into the Queen of Domesticity? ((((LOL)))))) You're knitting now? OMG! Feel better soon, Chrissy!

Thanks everyone :) Sorry for complaining and seeming so "Waaaaa...waaaaa. I'm sick. Poor me." LOL! I do feel that way though!

Curiosity: I did get that darn flu shot, even if it was beyond my better judgment. I didn't want to get it, but was convinced to. LOL! Anyway, I'm sick now. Boooooerzzz!

AHHM: Yep. Got it. See above. I know. Wish I knew how to make cute baby stuff when you had your babies! Have more and I'll make you a baby blankie! LOL! Or shall I attempt booties? Not. Looks to difficult!

T: Not knitting...crocheting. LOL! I wanted to learn how to knit, but for now I'll stick to crocheting. It seems easier to me.

Minotte: Oooh! Can't wait to see the wrap you're making! I'll definitely post a pic of the baby blanket once it's done. I've always been 'artistic' and creative, but have never 'made' something like a blanket before! LOL! I've done paintings (oil, watercolor acrylic), pastel work, charcoal work, etc, but never anything one could actually use.

Uhhh...that would be "too" difficult and not "to" difficult. Errrrr...Diesel was right :( I am hard on myself when it comes to typos! LOL!

I came upon your site from a friend's blogger thing-y and found it very interesting.

You have a gift for writing and can jump from one subject to another without disrupting your style. I also admire your creativity with all those photos and stuff...great ones!

Call me old fashioned but some of your posts give me a hint that you were raised by very loving and caring parents and extended family members. As they say, education begins at home and it appears that your father and mother have given you that...not only academically but your outlook in life in general as well.

Now that I discovered your site, I will be visiting often!

ei, chrissy, hope you're really feeling better now..
i also had flu last Friday, thanks to my son! just shows how much he loves me, huh? ;p took meds and ascorbic acid. curious about that tea that you mentioned..

Thanks Sentimental, for that really nice comment about the blog :) Yes, I was raised by really great parents and I come from a very closely knit family where education and family togetherness is key. Glad you popped by! Looking forward to more visits by you!

Conne! It's horrible! I was sick on Friday and I'm still sick :( Luckily, Hubby was good and took care of the housework and cooking. My student (who is homestaying with us) was out snowmobiling on the weekend with his friends and Hubby brought him to my parents' yesterday.

I posted something about ginger tea the other month. Basically, it's ginger/honey tea crystals that you dissolve in boiling water. It's really good for sore throats and congestion. I suppose realy ginger root in boiling water would be even more efficient, but I'm too much of a wimp to try it! LOL! PS. CJ is adorable! :)

hi chrissy
sometimes, i've boiled ginger root in water as well when i have a sore throat. i cut up the giner into rounds. it tastes horrible, but it does help. there's a filino ginger tea recipe ('salabat'); you just add brown sugar to the boiled ginger. i'm not into that either.

glad to know that you liked the chile mango. the mexican american population here really like fruit with chile powder (chile - not 'chili' ) on it. have you ever tried fresh mango/watermelon/jicama/pineapple with lime juice and pico de gallo powder? it's suprisingly good. it makes the fruit taste sweeter.

Feel better soon, mate! You need a shot of something strong to make you feel better. What about a hot toddy? By the way, I was dreaming of banoffee pie the other noght. Miss Moneypenny, can you make me some banoffee pie? -_-

You might be interested to know that I am also a by-product of a mixed marriage. My Dad is a Filipino American born in Hawaii where we live and my mother's ancestry came from Norway but she was born in Florida.

I find the Filipino culture very interesting and yes, most Filipino parents instill education and family closeness as top priorities. My Dad always told my younger sister and me that family, education and travel are important factors in our lives to blend well and understand others. His words of wisdom made me into a sentimentalist and perhaps that's part of the reasons why I chose to be an artist and a writer.

I hope you're feeling much better now. I was visiting websites about Canada and from what I've read, it is very COLD over there at this time of the year.

Keep warm!

Canine: I have tried fresh mango/watermelon/jicama/pineapple with lime juice and pico de gallo powder. It's a very interesting and refreshing mixture. Oh, and I hate, hate, hate boiled ginger root, but I drink it because it works. *sigh* I always wondered why so many things that taste awful are actually good for us! LOL!

Pete: Awww! Now I want some banoffee pie too! LOL!

Ms. Mamma: Thanks :) I hope I feel better soon too! LOL! I hate being sick! BTW, nice berries! ;p

Steve: It does sound gross, doesn't it? LOL! It actually does taste good though! :) C'mon, try it...you know you wanna!

Mist1: Oooooooh! That sounds nice! Mango lemonade. If you get some vodka in there, I'm in!

Sentimental: Yay! Thanks for popping by again! :) You've got a very interesting family background. I like that. My background is pretty mixed (filipina-Spanish-Caribbean-Chinese-Canadian) and I love the different elements each culture brings/adds. It makes me more sensitive to differences and more accepting of others. I keep thinking that when my husband and I have kids, our kids will have quite the interesting background too (he's English-Scottish-Irish-Canadian).

I see that you wrote that you are an artist and a writer as well :) I'd certainly be interested in seeing some of your work sometime!

BTW, it's not that cold right now :) It's currently +0.5 degrees Celcius! LOL! That's mild! :)

Are you feeling better Chris? I noticed you haven't posted anything new in a few days.

FEEL BETTER!! And don't think for a second that you can't whine - that cold/flu SUCKS. I had it in December and it lasted 2 weeks. I had to sleep sitting up or else I couldn't breathe! I hope you finish your baby blanket in time... how sweet of you to do that!

Uhhh...+0.5 degrees Celcius would be cold for me but I suppose the body adjusts to winter temperatures if need be. It must be nice to look forward to the changing of the seasons though.

You also have a very interesting background. I have a bit of Spanish blood in me too from my father's side. When I was a kid, my Dad used to tease me that I am like the Filipino dessert (or is it sort of a refreshing cold snack) halo-halo. The bottom of the glass is filled with colourful preserved sweet tropical fruits and topped with shaved ice and to melt the ice faster, one has to pour milk over it then use a spoon to blend everything together.

At first I didn't understand what my Dad was talking about but I would intently go through the process of mixing the ice and the colourful fruits. It was fascinating to see how well the mixture blended together and began to understand what my father meant. When you have your own kids, I'm sure they would be proud of their mixed cultures as well. They will be like halo-halo just like you and me. (:

I concentrate more on water colour and oil paintings as it seems so much easier for me to express and pour myself into them than writing. My artwork are circulated mainly at private clubs, mostly for fund raising purposes. One of these days I will let you get a glimpse of some of my treasured creations.

So have you gotten rid of your flu as yet? Take care.

T: I'm still nursing this cold/flu. At least I got my voice back though. I have found that with having a husband and a teenager (our student) in the house, a woman can never stay sick for an extended period of time. LOL!

Doggy Mama: Thanks! You're so sweet! You know what? Maybe I should try sleeping sitting up too! I wonder if that'll work?

Sentimental: I'm looking forward to seeing your work :) It's funny that you mentioned being called halo-halo! LOL! My family always said that about me too! I remember one old filipina lady was telling me that halo-halo meant "mix-mix"! LOL! To tell you the truth, I used to pick out the bean part when I was a kid, but I liked everything else. It's still one of my fave filipino desserts. Does every filipino family have one of those ice crushers? :)

Anonymous said...

You're funny...no, I doubt that every Filipino household has an ice crusher. We don't have one. I had my first halo-halo when I was very young vacationing in the Philippines with my parents. Here in Hawaii we frequent our favourite Filipino restaurant and I always have one. I also love spring rolls...yummy!

Unknown said...

Sentimental: I also love spring rolls! Which kind do you like best? My mom likes the "fresh" one. I don't know what it's called. I like any kind of lumpia. Lumpia shanghai, or the other one with the veggies in it. I helped my mom make some for Christmas. It's a lot of work in just preparation.

Wait...did you say HAWAII??? Okay. I am officially jealous! :)
