A Walk Down Memory Lane

Got a picture of your house
And you're standing by the door
It's black and white and faded
And it's looking pretty worn...

Can you name this tune?? You can click here for the rest of the lyrics. If you guessed Heaven by Warrant, you're absolutely correct. This song brings back memories and makes me think of my high school days.

Whenever I hear glam rock tunes or songs from the mullet years, it brings me back to happy days and high school years...and being a teenager, having no real responsibilities. The smell of spring, the movies and pool halls with friends, the mall after school on Fridays, the puppy love and first crushes, the school dances, the "what am I going to wear to school tomorrow?"...these are what I sometimes look back on with fondness. It was the years where video killed the radio star and tight jeans and big hair were in. I'd spend hours listening to Warrant, Cinderella, Tesla, White Snake, Poison, Guns 'N Roses, The Cure, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Slaughter, Mr. Big, Skid Row, Motley Crue, and other bands that were popular then.

If you remember these bands, try this music trivia quiz :)

Can I tell you that I was in luuuuuuv with Jani Lane?? *sigh* Those were the days! LOL!

Some of my fave tunes from my high school days:
Warrant: I Saw Red, Heaven, Sometimes She Cries
Mr. Big: Just Take My Heart, To Be With You
Skid Row: I Remember You, 18 and Life
Mehhhh...I'm too lazy to blog, so I'll post more tunes at a later date :)

PS. Happy, happy birthday, Ms.Mamma!!! Hope your day was a good'un, you awesome chiquita, you!

Very cute Christine. I remember those days, even if I was a few years ahead of you in high school. Not sure how many since now you're 31 and I'm 34. I was in love with Jani Lane too. And Slash from GNR! LOL

OMG Chris! The big hair days! ((((LOL)))))

p.s. I was in love with Jani Lane too!

Here's some trivia! I bet noone can name any of the other band members in Warrant other than Jani Lane! tee hee hee!

AHMM: You liked Slash? I was an Axl Rose fan :)

T: Don't tell me YOU didn't have big hair too back then! LOL! Does this refresh your memory: teased bangs with lots and lots of hairspray, and the ever popular hair crimper???

Pete: Are you telling me you have never heard of Warrant before? Actually, with all the great artists from the UK, I can see why you may not have heard of them :) I love Brit pop! LOL! Do you really think Jani Lane is fugly??? :(

Anon: whoever you are...You got me! I can't remember the other members' names!

Ha! Heaven is one of my favorite songs. It's an absolute classic.

I miss those 'wet look' hair gel days. LOL.

Woah, that's some crazy ass hair! I've never heard of Warrant either - although I was never into those big hair bands at school - I was more the new wave/punk kid, all dressed in black. Actually, come to think of it, I still am! ( but without the purple hair ) :-)

hallo Pete!

LOL! CHRISTINE!! You're in that in between age. Some who read this will think you are REALLY young and say, "Who the heck are those long haired, dirty looking, tattoo clad, skinny, druggy looking guys?"

Others will look at your generation and say "Who the heck are those long haired, dirty looking, tattoo clad, skinny, druggy looking guys?" They'd think you're way old!

There you have it! You are officially too young to be old and too old to be young! Your 30's are an awkward age, yes?

LOL! Still love you and the blog though!

What a great post!

Okay, I'm dating myself here, but when I was in 5th grade, instead of hanging Tiger Beat posters of Scott Baio or Shaun Cassidy, I had my Hit Parader and Creem posters of Eddie Van Halen on my walls! Rock 'n Roll all the way!

Then in junior high, I was totally into Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil of Motley Crue along with Billy Idol and the drummer of U2, Larry Mullen Jr. Ugh, look at them now (all of 'em, except for Larry, he's still cute). Most of the bands I liked were really really ugly like Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz and the Scorpions!

it says somehting about both my age and taste in music to say that i remember ALL of those bands... of course I'm 37 and was in high school when they came out... thanks goodness i never was as big a fan as some of my colleagues mot of who were, how shall i say it?, less focused on their studies... i was always more of a def leppard fan anyway!

p.s. thanks for the nice comments on my blog, too!

Sharkey: LOL! I remember the 'wet hair' gel look too! Were you one of those guys with the wet look? :)

Miss Moneypenny: Welcome back, girlfriend! (I think Pete was looking for you! LOL) I had a feeling you were a new wave/punk girl :) You're still a cool dresser and the cool kid on the block!

Anon: Awwww! No one has ever told me that I was "too old to be young and too young to be old"! Booooo hoooooo! LOL! :)

Canine: You have got AMAZING taste in music! I was a Vince Neil fan too. Oh, and Larry Mullin Jr, the Edge and Bono too. Did I ever tell you about the time I met U2?? I was in highschool, didn't have the $$$ to go to their concert in Montreal. My parents wouldn't give me the money to go to the concert. Grrr. My friends and I were at LaRonde (an amusement park in Montreal) and in saunters Bono and the boys. They weren't swarmed with fans, as no one noticed them except us. They had a few bodyguards in their entourage, but other than that, they were pretty low profile. We have the entire thing captured on video and in photos to prove our luck to our friends at school. One of the girls we were with, started crying, telling Bono if her undying love for him and how she owned every single album U2 ever made. There were pledges made that night of how no one was to ever wash their hands since it was touched by Bono. Ahhh...the summer of '92!

castaway: Thanks for popping by my blog! LOL! I was a fan of the music and the bands, but not to the extent of my peers either! I did have posters covering all my walls and ceiling in my bedroom, and my locker was decorated with posters and cut outs from magazines. There were girls who wanted to be rocker chicks and even had dreams of marrying a rocker. I love those days when my friends and I actually, seriously thought we had a chance with the likes of Jani Lane or Axl Rose! LOL! What were we thinking?? :) *sigh* Memories! BTW, I really enjoy your blog! It's great!

Hahahahahaha! That is SO old school, Christine! I can't believe people actually looked like that AND thought it looked good!

Unknown said...

Dina, I got 10/15. How disappointing, since I loved that music and those bands! LOL! Anyway, I'd better get back to work! Grrr...more working and less blogging! No fair! :(
