For Canine

Canine Cologne and I were chatting about some of the dolls I collected, growing up in the 80's. I am a true product of the 80's. I still remember all the words to Michael Jackson's tunes and I remember wearing fluorescent clothes like Cyndi Lauper did! Tight 'almost painted on your skin' jeans were 'in', and blue eye liner and fire engine red lipstick were 'cool'. Madonna was my idol and I once thought I'd marry Jon Bon Jovi (or even Richie Sambora). The Slippery When Wet album was the very first album I bought with my own money. I had it on cassette and vinyl!!! I even thought Boy George was cool once upon a time.

Anyway, Canine didn't remember Sea Wees or Charmkins at all. This post is just for you, Canine! Oh, and I don't think you missed too much not knowing that these things existed!

I'm embarrassed to say that I collected:

Sea Wees, Charmkins, Starwberry Shortcake, and My Little Pony figures. I honestly don't think it was by choice though. I was never a girlie girl, though my mom and aunts tried to make me one.

I much preferred the toys Middle Bro and my cousins played with:

I asked Hubby if he remembered any of these things. He said no. He's just a few years older than I am. While I was still an elementary school student collecting stupid dolls, Hubby was already working after school!

i'm quite honored that you did a post just for me, especially about dolls from the 80's. thanks for the time you took to do this! as i am a few years older than you, perhaps charmkins and sea wees were for the "younger" demographic! :) however, i do remember strawberry shortcake, the smurfs and my little pony but i never watched the cartoons or collected the toys/dolls. does anyone else think that smurfette was a slut? ha ha.

i didn't really collect dolls. i was more of a bookworm and a budding rocker/metal head. one of the first albums (cassette tapes, actually) that I played to death were van halen, boston, and def leppard's 2nd album, 'high 'n dry'! i wore levi's, vans (checkered!)and polo shirts. i wasn't much of a girly dresser back then. the levi's jeans had to be 'tapered' if you wanted to look cool. to 'taper' your jeans, you had to rip out the outside seam and handsew them so they would be super tight and skinny. that's a look i don't want to revisit!

thanks again for the informative post!

You SO were not a girly girl when you were a teenager! Maybe a little when you were a kid, but not as a teenager. I remember you in your Guns 'N Roses days! You loved Axl Rose even in his tight white bicycle shorts and plaid shirt!!

hi c,
i noticed my younger bro posted a response to my comment. actually, my younger sis liked axl rose way more than me. i was more into eddie van halen, vince neil and nikki sixx from motley crue (ugh, look at them now!)and billy idol. as a kid, i was forced to wear homemade clothes. my sister and i had no choice and we had matching outfits, or shall i say 'pantsuits' since it was the 70's.

I don't even know why I had so many dolls. I'm telling you, I am afraid of dolls! LOL! I'm scared of dolls and clowns, actually! That's all together another post though! Clowns=creepy.

In high school I loved Pearl Jam, Guns 'N Roses, Trixter, Slaughter, Bon Jovi, Poison, Mr.Big, Aerosmith and Van Halen too. I remember my friends and I used to wear plaid shirts and ripped jeans. At one point (pre-Grunge era), we used to even pin the bottom/sides of our jeans so they'd be super tight. How ugly is that?? LOL!

I don't know if I can say that I have a specific "type" of music that I like. I listen to everything from Classical, Rock, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Alternative, Soca, Dub, Reggae, Reggaeton, and everything in between.

Wanna hear something funny? I used to wear black and white Converse high tops and I even had a pair of peach Airwalks. LOL! I went shopping with my 22 yr old cousin in Montreal and she bought a pair of Converse shoes almost like the ones I had...TWENTY YEARS AGO!!! LOL!

Haha! I used to be in love with Axl Rose too! I even loved him in his tight white bike shorts and plaid shirt!

We had *tons* of My Little Ponies.

I remember Charmkins. In fact I still remember a song from a cartoon special. Scary how these things stick with you.

BTW, LOVE your blog!

Ms.Mamma:
LOL! Cool!!! Do you still have it??? I had the pink one with blonde hair, a green one with brown hair, a blue one with brown hair and I think I even had a pink one with pink hair. The little baby sea wees were cute. LOL! OMG...What a blast from the past.

I still have my whole collection of My Little Pony's, some of my Strawberry Shortcakes, as well as the Get Along Gang. I recently got all of this stuff from my mom's house, and have no idea what to do with it all. It's just sitting in the garage. How 'bout those 80's?
