Today You Are Six
You were born on October 13, 2002.
I remember the first time I saw you. My heart immediately melted. You were only four weeks old, and you were by far the cutest of the bunch. Of all your brothers and sisters, I knew right away that you were the one I wanted. You captured my heart forever.
You were the fuzziest, fluffiest little guy ever. All your siblings were so sleek and shiny, but you had a really shaggy coat and a white racing stripe down the middle of your face. You were so tiny (the runt of the litter), you even fit in the palm of my hand! That's how small you were!
You had to come home with me at a very early age because your mom was too young to take care of you by herself. She stopped feeding you and your siblings, and you had to be fed formula and needed extra special care.
Watching you learn and discover the world around you was truly amazing to see. I loved how cute you were on those unsteady legs of yours when you first learned how to walk. It took you a while to master how to climb up and down stairs and to this day, you still don't like stairs much!

You were (and still are) my first baby. You and I have been through so much together over the past six years. You've been there through happy times and sad. You always know how to make me laugh and you just make all my problems melt away.

City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

Happy Birthday, Chance! I love it! He is so precious. It is amazing how much our pets become such a huge and special part of our lives and how much we experience as they and we grow. I can't believe he has traveled so much! I haven't been to those places...I'm so jealous.
Ok, this is for Chance...
Who's a good doggy? scratch scratch scratch his ears. Who's a handsome boy?? xoxo
He's but a baby. Tho in doggy years I guess 6 equates to more than in human years.
You can tell he's a good natured fellow, its written all over his face.
What a beautiful tribute to Chance. I can tell how much love he has for you by just looking at his eyes. Dogs add so much to our lives and ask for so little.
Oh sweetie, Chance is darling :) I had no idea our pups were so close in age! I remember being pregnant with my dog. He sat near my belly at all times, as if he was protecting me and the baby. Like you said, he was my first baby :)
Such a sweet post. Happy Birthday Chance!
Happy Birthday, Chance! What a cutie you are!
And ditto what Autumn's mom said, except hey, give him a cookie!
(that's what we call doggie treats, not a people cookie....)
What a sweetie!
Happy 6th birthday Chance!!!
Our dog is 11 years old and I'm dreading the day he'll have to go to dog heaven.
C, I can't believe you have just 112 days to go before the little one is born!!!! How time flies.
Happy Birthday to Chance! Great pictures. I love the puppy picture, and the one where he's holding his baby. SO CUTE!
Happy birthday, Chance.
One of my favorite pictures is with chance...
Hey, that's about middle age in dog years. Chance is gonna want a Porsche now...
Deb:
Thanks! :) My SIL, MIL, and two nieces came over with dog biscuits for Chance and sang Happy Birthday to him! LOL! Too funny!
So true about how big of a part our pets play in our every day lives, eh? I've said this before, but I love my pets more than I like some people! LOL! Sad, but true! ;)
Autumn's Mom:
Tee hee! :) I told him that today...and as I scratched him behind the ears I realized that he had gotten "skunked" the night before. The pooch STINKS!!!
Happy Birthday sweet pup! Roscoe is better and sends his regards. But watch out for squeakers, that may (or may not have) been the problem.
Pooch smooches!
Mrinz:
True! True! I worry about him getting older each year because I've grown so attached to him and the thought of him aging and eventually passing away really upsets me. I don't want to think about it!
He is such a good natured pup :) Though he's now 6, he still acts like a puppy! LOL!
Jan:
We took him to the beach on his birthday and he had a blast! This doggy really LOVES swimming! :)
Momisodes:
Awww! That's so sweet that your dog was at your side during your pregnancy! They've got such keen instincts, don't they? :) Chance is very protective of me too. I like having my little companion around! He never likes to be too far away from me and always stays within watching distance if he does want to venture outside.
J:
:) Tee hee! This doggy really loves his cookies! Oddly enough, he LOVES the dog biscuits that are "supposed" to promote "good breath". Hmmm...I'm not sure if they work all that well though! He still has wretched doggy breath! LOL!
MoziEsmé:
Thank you! :)
Louann:
Ohhh...I know how you feel!!! I get really sad every time I think of "that day". I know it'll come...I just don't want it to.
P.S. I know! CRAZY, eh? So close, yet still so far! LOL! You're getting up there too! It's so neat that our pregnancies aren't that far apart! :) XOXO
Oh, C!!!! You know just how to tug at the heartstrings, don't you? This letter to Chance on his 6th birthday - with the beautiful pictures! - is just perfect. What a lucky pup he is to have such a wonderful mama.
To Chance: Happy Birthday! Ryder and Seth hope you get lots of treats!
xo,
Jane
A HAPPY, GLORIOUS, PERFECT BIRTHDAY to Chance! He is just beautiful... what a miracle he's been in your lives...
Your birthday tribute made me cry... tears of joy for all the happiness you've brought to each other. He is going to be the BEST big brother! The blessings on a day like today are so very, very special! I can't wait to see the photos I'm sure will be taken!
Here's to Chance's birthday!
Happy Birthday Chance! You will make a great big brother.
Chance is really a sweet doggy!! I love how he greets you when you drive onto your property! and he was the cutest, furriest puppy i had ever met.
What a great post chrissy!
Here's a long comment.
Hey, isn't he a cutie! Pets add so much richness to our lives. I am glad you have such a good buddy.
Sorry he got skunked. I found this advice on a homesteading forum I visit: How to really deskunk a pet (or even yourself maybe.) But don't store the mix in an airtight container-it could explode.
For pets that have been sprayed, bathe the animal in a mixture of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. After 5 minutes rinse the animal with water. Repeat if necessary. The mixture must be used after mixing and will not work if it is stored for any length of time.
Ha! Great post...love the pics.
Happy burfday Chance baby!!!
So purty!!!!
