A Year Ago Today

Exactly one year ago today, something so magical and exciting happened to us.

We discovered that I was pregnant! Yes, it was that special "two stripes = you're pregnant" moment. It was that defining, life altering moment where you just pause because you cannot believe that this is actually true and actually happening to you. We couldn't contain the excitement, surprise, elation, and disbelief.
To celebrate this special day, we took Little One to the beach for the first time. Though it was a bit on the windy side and definitely not swimming weather yet, it was still very special. It was special because we went to the beach where Hubby and I got married back in June of 2006.

We also dined at one of our favourite restaurants. I've mentioned the Garden's Gate Restaurant several times on the blog. What I love about the Garden's Gate is that it's a quiet place with good, healthy, wholesome food. This said, their desserts are sinfully delicious.

I had the cauliflower and potato soup and the chicken schnitzel with veggies and risotto cakes. Hubby also had the chicken schnitzel with risotto cakes, veggies and a salad with homemade salad dressing. I have to say that this is the best schnitzel ever. Slightly crispy, never greasy...and always very flavourful. The carrots and asparagus were the perfect accompaniment and the risotto cakes were delicious! The Student had the whitefish with mashed potatoes and the cauliflower and potato soup. He said it was delicious. It was beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection.

Little One enjoyed just looking around and people watching. She also enjoyed looking at the garden and particularly the mushroom shaped solar lights.

This is my feeble attempt at snagging a photo of a hummingbird. It was a gorgeous Ruby Throat that kept coming up to the window where the bird feeder was. So beautiful, but so fast! I wish I had a better camera! Oh, well. My SONY Cyber-Shot has served me well for all the "point and shoot" shots I take.

I know I keep saying how I'm not much of a dessert person. You couldn't tell from all the dessert reviews we do on this blog.

I had the key lime pie. It is TO DIE FOR!!! The texture is perfectly smooth and light. It's not too sweet and just tart enough. If I do have dessert, I like it to be on the slightly tart or sour side. I know. I'm a bit of an odd duck in that sense.

Whereas my husband prefers the sweet, decadent, super rich Mad About Chocolate Cheesecake. It is really rich. If you are a chocolate lover, you'll love this dessert.

The Student chose the Hawaiian Tropical Cheesecake. He said it was light, fluffy, airy, and just the right amount of sweetness. He isn't a fan of the over-the-top-rush-me-to-the-dentist-I-have-a-cavity kind of dessert. He doesn't really have a sweet tooth at all. This, he said, was the perfect dessert.

The presentation of all the dishes was fantastic and it was just the right portion size. We left with our bellies full and our taste buds content :)

Here's Little One saying goodbye. She was all tuckered out from her day out celebrating the day we found out we were expecting her :)

What a beautiful island you live on. That beach is stunning and your little girl is such a beauty.

I think Little one is mad that she didn't get any dessert!

I remember the first time we took Maya to the beach...she was fine until we tried to put her toes in the water. THEN She was scared! Poor thing. She didn't cry, though, just made a loud, high pitched "EEEEEE!" sound. She loves the beach now, though. ;)

When you look back at these special moments, isn't it truly amazing? I just remember how excited we were. We were in shock because it just felt so surreal! It's like, "OMG! We're going to be parents!!" LOL!

Thank you. I'm glad I'm blogging about her special moments too. I was thinking that it's a good thing I'm blogging this, otherwise I'd forget all the little details when it comes time to telling her "her story". :)

Thanks! I love living on an island where there are beaches within minutes of our home :) Thank you also for the compliment. She is kind of cute :) Then again, I'm a little bit biased! LOL!

Tee hee! I'm wondering if she's going to have a sweet tooth like her Daddy! OR...will she like sour/tart things like her Mommy?

How old was Maya when you first took her to the beach? I was looking at that photo of her and Ted. She is GORGEOUS, J! She's so grown up now!

I was also just thinking about what you said about the solids and stinky poo. Gah! Sooooooooo not looking forward to that! LOL!

I also asked the Neonatologist and because of her prematurity, LO should only start solids at 6 months corrected. By August we can start her on cereal. Oh, joy! LOL!

I wonder what's stinkier...When they eat fruits? Veggies? Meat? Do I really want to know? LOL!

I had to change my 2 yr old nephew's diaper when we were in Montreal. That's some "man-sized" poo, I tell ya! LOL! *sigh* I miss my adorable nephew! He's so cute and so funny!

I loved this post, C, I remember how excited you were, and how ready you were to be a mom. You and John were so destined to be wonderful parents.

I'm so happy to have been a "part" of all of this, and your sharing of special, precious moments with us us so very generous and lovely of you.

Okay, I'm all weepy now :)!

I was just at your blog the other day, but didn't have time to leave a comment. *sigh* I'm going to have to teach Little One to write comments for me! LOL!

Wow, I can't believe it was a year ago! Glad you made it to the beach, so sorry that it wasn't as warm as when you got married, the weather this Spring is really not too great.

I may make it out your way this summer, I am trying to plan a trip out that way. Will let you know if we are coming.

Thank you :)
Yes, the Sony Cyber Shot is a pretty good digital camera for the type of photos I take (ie: mostly of baby and things around the farm! LOL!).

Beach Mama:
On the day we were married, it was sooooooooooooo HOT on the beach! EVERYONE was sunburnt!! Even me...and I don't usually burn! LOL!

It was 22 degrees today! Yay! Things are starting to heat up a bit now!

I soooooooooooooo hope you'll be able to head this way this summer! I really, really hope you can! Will you be visiting Northern Mom? If so, you girls and your families will have to have a beach day with us (and a trip to the Chocolate Works...and the Garden's Gate Restaurant)!!!

Momisodes:
