2 Cool Recipes...

My MIL couldn't wait to give me my birthday presents. My birthday's next Monday, but she was too excited, she just had to let me open them today. I received several really amazing gifts from her, but the one that stood out the most was the one she had made for me. I'm a sappy kinda gal and just love homemade presents. I feel like they've got more value - perhaps not monetary value, but sentimental value. It really shows you that someone took the time, effort and love and put it into creating your gift. I love that! Mehhhh...I guess I'm just easy to please! LOL!
Recipe #1:
So one of the gifts my MIL gave me was a jar of homemade
bath scrub.
To make this, you will need:
- Sea Salt or Kosher Salt (any good exfolliating substance)
-Olive oil
-Essential Oil (any fragrance of your choice) My MIL didn't have any essential oils so she used vanilla extract, which worked out really well and it's got a more natural smell :)
The measurements are 1:3, so if you have 1 c. salt, use 1/3 cup oil. You want the salt to soak up the oil so it doesn't come out too greasy. Add a few drops of fragrance, and store in an air-tight jar with a good lid. You can decorate the jar with ribbon or get fancy if you like. It's a natural body scrub, not too harsh on your skin, and it smells really good! Mmmmmmmmm...vanilla!!! LOL! (You can opt for sandalwood, rose, lemon or whatever scent you like).
Recipe #2
Again, another recipe from my MIL. We both don't like using harsh chemicals when we clean and I was trying to wash the walls down because I was in a cleaning frenzy. I don't know what got into me the other night! Anyway, my MIL dug out this brilliant pantry potion for me:
Household Cleaner
1 gallon water
1 cup household liquid ammonia (you don't need to use it if you don't like to use ammonia)
1/2 c white vinegar
1/4 c baking soda
There you have it! An easy, not so harsh household cleaner :)
Have you got any homemade potions you find worthy of sharing?

Great idea of the body scrub. I spend so much money on store bought scrubs and exfolliating bath stuff. Thanks.

I use just plain water and vinegar to clean the house. On windows use scrunched up newspaper instead of paper towel and you won't have any streaks. That's my two cents =)

I always spill candle wax on things. I'm clumsy that way. I friend told me to put a sheet of wax paper over the spilled wax or wax drippings and iron over the wax paper. Brilliant ain't it? I also heard that a blow dryer works for that too.

I've got a few good ones. A little bit of apple cider vinegar helps with a sore throat. Use baking soda and water to make a paste to make your teeth white (in addition to using toothpaste). Let me think of some more and I'll post them later on.

Hey,
Jill posted some great homemade body scrubs a while back. She mixes her body wash with sugar and it gets the same affect as with salt. I use the oil, salt mix on my hands all the time and it leaves my skin really soft!
I also whip egg whites with the mixer and apply to my face, leave on for 5-10 minutes and it really tightens the skin and leaves it super soft. I have done the same with mashes up avacodo too.
For my hair I dump about 1/2 cup mayo and leave for 1/2 hour then wash out,(do this about once every other month) it leaves hair soft and conditioned-no need to spend tonnes on salon conditioner!!

oh yeah...another good one is use baking soda and vinigar in your wash to get out tough stains and to brighten your wash (use in addtion to laundry soap, not instead of)

Dina! Those are awesome recipes! I like the last one! I'll try anything to get rid of stains and to make my wash brighter. As for the eggwhites, my grandmother used to do that too! When we were kids, she'd make our eggs for breakfast, and take the eggwhites fromt he shell and put it on her face for a few minutes. As a kid, I thought it was odd. She's got the softest, nicest skin for a woman her age though! I tried the eggwhites before too, and they do leave your skin feeling tighter and softer.

I think I will try your avocado recipe! Does it leave a strong scent afterward from the mayo?

Yes, I remember Jill's post. She had a lot of great recipes there! Neat idea for the sugar scrubs!

Those two recipes sound great. I've made scrubs before but not that exact one. I'll have to try it later today.

I'm really interested in the homemade cleaner. I haven't found one that I feel works as well as store bought ones.

Lately I've just been using vinegar and warm water to clean. I'm so worried about Little One putting her hands on things that can be not so good for her to ingest. EVERYTHING goes into her mouth these days! Wonder when she'll outgrow that stage! :)
