2007

THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR:
I thought it would be a good time to give thanks for all the wonderful things that have happened in the past year:

1. Hubby and I got married
2. Lele and Bu are expecting their first child in March of 2007
3. Dad has had a healthy year and is doing well recovering from his stroke and heart attack
4. Peejay is doing well and has one year of university left
5. I've got wonderful students
6. I've got amazing friends and family
7. K and J have gotten engaged
8. My grandmothers are both healthy
9. Mom's doing well
10. We've had frequent visits from the Cruz family (4 or 5 trips up here in the last year!)
11. Many of our friends have had babies in the past year (what cuties!)
12. We haven't had any major problems in 2006
13. Life has been good to us
14. My vehicle has been holding up pretty well for its age and has taken us on many long distance road trips in the last year (knock on wood! It's a '96 Ford Explorer)
15. We have a roof over our heads, food in our tummies, a few pennies in our pockets

The last photos were taken last winter - we don't have snow on the Island right now. What a big difference from last year!!

Happy new year AGAIN! This blog is quite addictive. Interesting people frequent this spot. It feels like when one visits this blog one keeps in touch with old friends. It's neat to learn that you are actual real life friends with some of the people here like Jill and Dina. 'Course there's nothing wrong with cyber friends like Yuka and me, yeah? Well we;re off for a pint of guinness at our local 'shot baa'. maybe we'll have a orenji chuhai with you in mind! C U L8TR

Joanne, thank you soooooooo much for that really nice comment on the blog :) Are you in Canada too? Every time Hubby and I go to the plowing match and farm shows down south, we always make sure to pass by the Farmers Feed Cities booth! I even have a sticker on the back of my SUV (my city friends jokingly call me a hick! LOL) and we have a big Farmers Feed Cities sign out at the end of our laneway.

I'd love to hear more about your t-shirt line and your kids' clothing shop! That sounds really exciting!

BTW, you can also get in touch with me outside of the blog via cg_lee121875 at hotmail dot com :) Looking forward to hearing from you again!

Hi Chris - I've lived in Toronto for the past 11 years, but just moved to Oakville in the summer after our house was sold. I just opened my shop in September - it's called JetBaby and I sell really cool kids' clothes ( classic rock onesies and t-shirts, lots of great lines out of the US like small paul by Paul Frank, Gwen Stefani's girls' line called Harajuku Lovers, retro inspired toys and books etc ) My website ( with online shopping ) will be up in early spring.

I'll send you an email with a photo of my first t-shirt - it says
No Farmers
No Food
No Future

I've sold those, plus I sell FFC t-shirts and stickers here too ( I have the same sticker on my car! ) I've raised almost $500.00 since I got the shirts first printed in May. Not bad! I have more designs planned for spring - for tshirts and canvas shopping bags, and one of the farmers at the local market offered me space on his stall. I don't come from a farming family, but am very concerned about the farming crisis - I don't think many people outside of the farming community are are aware of it, and that's what I'm hoping to do - if I can get even a few people to start buying local, to support Ontario farmers with their shopping dollars, I'll be happy.

I'll post that recipe for you too!

Joanne! You are awesome, girl! What a wonderful idea! It's true that not many people outside of the farming community know the impact farmers have on their lives. They also don't know how not buying local affects the farmers. Everytime I see how hard my husband works and how little the reward (financially) it breaks my heart. He works so hard and he loves what he does. He loves being so close to the land and to the animals, and seeing how everything is so connected. We buy local (obviously) and we grow our own fruits and veggies.

A lot of people also don't realize that farming is not a cheap career either. All the money tied up in machinery, repairs, feed for the animals, taking care of them...That's a lot of money right there and that's before you even sell your product.

I've heard a lot of people say that "If farming (or the economics of) is so bad, then why don't farmers just stop farming?" Uhhh...hello? If no one's growing your food for you so you could buy it at the grocery store, how are you going to eat?? Hubby's family used to grow the corn that is used for the DelMonte canned corn that's sold at the grocery stores. That was decades ago though. We don't grow corn to that extent now.

Anyway, Hubby loves what he does and I totally support him. I think it's very respectable and honorable to want to serve the community this way. He always tells me that if you take care of the community, the community will take care of you.

I'm so glad you stumbled upon my blog! You totally sound like the type of person I'd be friends with if we lived closer to each other.

I hope 2007 proves to be a great one for you. I'll check your blog for that recipe! :) If I'm in your area, I would love to stop by your store! Is it a store or is it an online shop?

P.S. Do you have any
No Farmers
No Food
No Future
t-shirts for adults or is it only for kids? That is toooooooooo cool! I'd totally buy a couple! LOL!

Oh, and I think Paul Frank stuff is really cool. I love that little monkey!

A little amendment to:
Hubby's family used to grow the corn that is used for the DelMonte canned corn that's sold at the grocery stores. That was decades ago though. We don't grow corn to that extent now.

I meant that 'we' (as in Hubby, myself and his mother) don't grow corn anymore, except for personal consumption.
