I'm soooooooo OLD!!!

Yesterday, I took the nieces on a day trip. We went to the movies, had lunch and went shopping. Since we were having a "girls' day", we decided to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. Who knew that America Ferrera looked so beautiful beneath all that Ugly Betty make-up and those crazy unibrows!?!? Anyway, the girls were anxious to see the movie since they had read the books.

At the movie theater, as always, endless previews and ads were shown before the feature presentation. One of the previews was for High School Musical 3 and the girls went nuts! To say that they love HSM is a huge understatement. They lovvvvvve High School Musical and they looooooooove Zac Efron.Niece 1: (Squeals with delight) I can't wait to see High School Musical 3! Zac Efron is soooo hot!
Me: I've never even seen High School Musical 1!
Both nieces give a look of either shock or disgust! LOL!
Me: Who is Zac Efron anway?
Both nieces: (in total shock) You don't know who Zac Efron is???

Okay, I haven't been hiding under a rock for that long. I do know who he is. Niece 1 has posters of him plastered all over her bedroom walls.

Before the movie, there was an interview with The Jonas Brothers. Blood curdling squeals again.
Niece 1 and Niece 2: Ahhhhhhhhh!!! The Jonas Brothers!!!!
Me: Who???
Niece 2: OMG! You don't know who the Jonas Brothers are??
Me: Nope.
Niece 1: They're like the coolest band!
Me: Never heard of them.
Another look of disbelief from N1 and N2!
Niece 2: They're a band made of three brothers.
Niece 1: Yeah. Kevin, Joe and Nick. I can't believe you don't know who they are! Nick is sooooo dreamy!

Just to further how uncool I am, on the drive home, Retro 80's played on the radio and I was the one squealing with delight. Excited, I blasted the tunes and began singing along with Billy Idol, Glass Tiger, Men Without Hats, Mr. Mister, Robert Palmer, Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stray Cats, Styx, Supertramp, etc.

Me: (as soon as Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone began to play) Ahhhh! Glass Tiger!!! I was in love with Alan Frew when I was your age!
No comment from either niece.
Did I really say "When I was your age"??? Gah! That was twenty (yes, TWENTY!) years ago!

Redemption came when Video Killed the Radio Star played on the radio. To my surprise, the girls knew the lyrics. Niece 1, Niece 2, and I were all singing and head bopping along the long and winding highway road as people in passing vehicles looked over and smiled when they looked into our vehicle and saw us being all goofy and thoroughly enjoying ourselves.

Hey there C!
Sorry I've been so very absent from the bloggy world! Crazy busy and my mind doesn't slow down much to do any reading. so sad!

Anyway... I totally want to see the next traveling pants movie! I'll probably even make the husband watch it too. He resists but usually ends up enjoying the chick movies.

Just the other weekend we were realizing how long ago high school was, or being pre-teens, or when this or that song came out or when a tv show was on. These are usually funny little reality checks. The ones I don't laugh at so much are the ones where it's my body reminding me it's been 20 years since I could do this, or 15 years since I looked like that.

And my dear, you aren't old. Because if you are.. then I am, and that's just not happening.

Hey did you get the thing I sent you in the mail? If not you should get it some time this week.

Your not old because that would make me old too!

But, now I will have "video killed the radio star" stuck in my head the rest of the day, so feeling old won't be so bad.

thanks!

Hello, my dear! So good to see you back! I totally understand where you're coming from. Sometimes there are other things in life to preoccupy our time with other than blogs. *gasp* Did I really say that?? LOL!

My nieces enjoyed the movie. I was happy when they said, "The books were better than the movie!" and to which I replied, "The books are almost always better than the movies!"

It was so neat how the girls were able to pick apart the inaccuracies and subtle changes between the books and the movie. Good for them...considering they are only 12 and 10 years old!

I thought you might enjoy this post. Remind you of any particular band that we used to drool over? Out of sheer embarrassment, I'm not going to name the band!

No, I haven't received anything in the mail from you. You sent me something in the mail??? I'll let you know as soon as I get it :) Thank you in advance for whatever it is you sent me! Now you've got my curiosity piqued!

Hey! LOL! I know what you mean about the Jonas Brothers. Seems the rage with tween girls these days are the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, and a whole bunch of teens that I can't even list. I just can't seem to keep up with it all.

P.S. I've had Video Killed the Radio Star in my head all day!

Uncivil:
I know! I know! LOL! ;)

Starshine:
:) If you see it, let me know what you think!

LOL! Same here! Although I try to keep up to date with what the kids are listening to and watching (sometimes these things are useful in the classroom and can be incorporated into lessons), I have absolutely no desire to see HSM 1, 2, or 3! LOL!

LOL! I totally would have sang right along with you :)

Want to know why I feel incredibly old? Because to me Zac Efron looks like he's 10! Doesn't he!?!

Good for you and your knowledge of eighties music, C. I'm a seventies girl, myself. Funny picture of you all bopping along in the car.
Not knowing anything about the HSM movies is like saying Harry Potter who, no?
I've even seen the second one when I was stuck in the ER waiting (waiting...waiting).
I think Zac Efron had his appendix out when I did. What does that mean in teendom world?
