11/11,11

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Canada observes Remembrance Day. I remember as a child, in school we had a moment of silence to honour those who fought and died in WWI and WWII. As elementary school students, we also had to recite the poem In Flanders Fields. To this day, I can still remember the words of the poem. Now, as an adult, I still take a moment to commemorate the fallen soldiers.

In high school and college, for my part-time job, I worked with senior citizens after school and on weekends. One of the ladies I took care of used to tell me stories about her life. She mentioned how the war had a tremendous impact on everyone's lives. I used to listen intently, as this sort of thing seemed so foreign to me. Living in the generation we live in now, everything she said just seemed so distant and something I couldn't relate to. It was so very interesting.

I have friends who serve in the military (in the U.S. and in Canada) and every time they are deployed to some place on the other side of the globe, I get really nervous. My thoughts and prayers for a safe return are always with them.

Today is also my cousin's birthday. Happy Birthday, P!

Majestic
This morning, Hubby called me over to the living room window to see the most spectacular sight. Outside our house, there was a beautiful buck. He was a ten-pointer and looked to be two hundred pounds or so. It was the most majestic scene ever. The mist was rolling over the fields and there stood this magical creature. It reminded me of that scene in the movie Stand by Me, where Gordie (Will Wheaton's character) shares a quiet moment with the deer in the middle of the woods.

Just seeing that huge buck this morning was so exciting and special. I see loads of deer every day, but this was different. You know that this buck has to be smart, otherwise he wouldn't live to ever get this big. I've never seen a ten-point buck before!

At the same time, it makes me sad because the hunters will be here next week...and even the wisest bucks can let their guard down.

Dare I ask what a ten pointer is?

I was getting ready to post a comment about wishing for that majestic deer's safety until I read japanmanpete's comment. At least I know the deer will be safe around him! Innocence is priceless!
I'll let you explain! This should be good!!!!!

Hi! Wow, that must have been so beautiful! It was very weird last week being at my inlaws cottage and hearing gun shots ring out all morning long. I wanted to herd all the deer onto our property to keep them safe.

I am so mad, I was getting all ready to get some Manitoulin pictures on my blog, only to remember I took the pictures with my medieval camera!! So I will have to take pictures of pictures! Or better yet, I will have to come up and take more!!

I am glad I finally introduceed myself, and glad you liked the vulture writing I found. That just hit me like a ton of bricks when I opened up the paper and read it.

I have been checking out Hugh McLaughlin's real estate website looking at houses again up there! Now if I could just find my dh a job there we would be set!!

Pete:
A deer's antler is ranked by spread (from the most outward point to the left to the most outward point to the right) from point to point and by the number of points it has. It is considered a point when a ring can stay on it. A ten pointer has ten points (five on each side).

Does that make sense? LOL! I hope I didn't confuse you even more!

I did it! I explained it, but I have a feeling it came across being more confusing!

I know all the hunters out there are going to hate me, but I really hope this buck outsmarts them! He's just gorgeous.

That's a good one! Hubby helps you with your blog!
Three cheers for hubby!
I knew you had to have help!
He's probably thinking......if I help her with her blog......she'll have more time to split firewood! LOL!!!!!!!

Hmmmmm...You know, you are probably right! Hahaha! The faster she replies to comments and finishes her posts, the faster she'll get out there and split firewood!

I have been slacking in that area. Teaching from 9AM-12PM and then 1PM-3PM. That leaves some time for working out and then cooking supper. Sometimes I have meetings after, but not often. I suppose instead of doing Yoga Booty Ballet and Hip Hop Abs, I could split firewood! Thanks Jimmy! LOL!
