Throwback Thursday #17

I've been slipping on my Throwback Thursday posts for the past while. Things have gotten crazy busy and if I didn't have enough to do, I decided to do NaBloPoMo! Thank goodness the lovely ladies at Pinks and Blues have come up with Throwback Thursdays! This way, I have NaBloPoMo material even when I'm uninspired! :) Oh, and I get to take a walk down memory lane (and take you guys along with me for the ride)!

This week's Throwback is not about me. It's about Baby Bro. I really, really miss Baby Bro. With him being in university (in Kingston), I don't get to see him often. When we do see each other, it's never for long enough! I'd go to Kingston for a few days or he'd come to the Island for a few days. It's never long enough. I miss him.

I love to reminisce and look at old photos of Baby Bro. He had the rosiest cheeks ever and he was such a little drool monster! Everyone who met him said that he had "smiling eyes". There was just something about the twinkle in his eyes that made everyone (even strangers) love him.

(Baby Bro will probably kill me when he sees this photo of him and my cousin, Jey)
Baby Bro still has that magic twinkle in his eyes and he still captures the hearts of everyone he meets. There is just something about that boy! In the above photo, Baby Bro is holding our sleeping nephew.

Baby Bro is now grown up. He'll be finished university soon. It makes me sad to see him all grown up. I know it should make me happy that he's about to begin his career and become an adult. I just keep thinking about the little baby boy that I helped raise. I remember him learning how to crawl. I remember all the years of him being accident prone and walking into walls and falling through screen doors. I remember reading him Romeo and Juliet, Animal Farm, and 1984 before bedtime when he was in kindergarten. I remember how hard it was for me to see him embark on his first day of school. I remember whenever I was upset or sad, I'd always talk to Baby Bro. Even if he was a lot younger than me, he was always there to give me a hug and tell me things would be okay. I miss driving him to baseball games and taking him to acting lessons. I know this probably doesn't make sense, but even when I'm with him I miss him. I could be sitting in the same room as him and still miss him. Strange! Baby Bro's growing up is sort of bittersweet for me. I don't know why.

Goodness! If seeing Baby Bro grow up makes me so weepy, imagine how it'll be when Hubby and I have kids of our own? Yikes! Watch out, people! I feel waterworks coming...big time!

Yeah, you guys probably think I'm nuts for reading Animal Farm and 1984 to a kindergarten kid before bedtime! LOL! Hey, I was (and still am) an artsy fartsy literary egghead. Baby Bro came up with the most creative book reports that dazzled his teachers when he was in elementary school! They were shocked when they saw the types of books he was reading in grade 2!! Gabriel Garcia Marquez, anyone? LOL!

That's a great reflection on your brother! If I did that on my brother he'd kill me! hee, hee...maybe I should do it!

Annie:
I've got two brothers (whom I love dearly). I always wished I had a sister and sort of envied my friends who had sisters. I ended up with two younger brothers though. Baby Bro and I are 11 years apart and he has always been very special to me. Apart from Hubby, Baby Bro is the only other person who is that special to me.

Girl Gone Wild:
Hi! Thank you for popping by my blog! :) Tee hee! I just know Baby Bro is going to kill me for posting that pic of him when he was little...and holding his "pee pee"! I think he had to go to the bathroom, but everyone was taking pictures of him! LOL!

When I was 10 years old I remember my Mother coming out of the Doctors rooms smiling, she was 40, and it was not until later that I realised that she had just found out that she was expecting my Baby Bro.

So like you I had the experience of being a little mother to my little brother. What a blessing this unexpected child was to our family.

Then when both our parents died at a relatively young age, and my other brother died at age 25, my little bro and I were the only ones left.

It continued this way until two years ago when, at age 49 he had a heart attack while riding his beloved Norton Commando Motor bike. He didn't survive.

This is not a sad story - he died doing what he loved, and we are all the better for having had him for 49 years.

Siblings are so important, even when we have our own husband and children, siblings rate up there as ones who know us best!

Deb:
Thanks for coming by and thanks for leaving a comment :) I'm off to check out your blog now.

mrinz:
Your comment almost made me cry. Not from sadness, (because your brother died doing what he loved) but just because of how beautiful a relationship you had with him. You are so right about how important siblings are.

He was such a cutie, C! Time flies by, and yes, it is strange, but I can relate with your bittersweet feelings. I'm also 11 yrs (almost 12) older than my baby brother. I almost lost it at his wedding; now that he's all growed up with his own baby, it's really hard to believe. But I couldn't be more proud of him. He's a great Dad, super brother and fantastic uncle. But he's still my and my sister's baby brother. As your brother will always be.
Yeah, I can hear it just as loudly as uncivil...GONG,GONG,GONG LOL!

Very cute. :) Glad you have a baby bro.

Is Uncivil right? That does kinda sound like a biological clock to me...

You had me laughing at the last part! ;)

J:
I'm so glad to have my Baby Bro too. That biological clock does seem to be ticking rather loudly, doesn't it? LOL!
