Odds and Ends
(1) Remember how I said that I'm so out of touch with what's cool in the eyes of tweens and teenagers? I had absolutely no idea who The Jonas Brothers were and I have never seen High School Musical. I don't think Zac Efron is the most incredible thing on earth, and I had no idea that Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus were the same person!
My nieces just love Hannah (errr...Miley!?), so I decided to do some online investigating. Would she be considered the Debbie Gibson of this generation?
The Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour was on TV a few nights ago, so I checked it out just to see what kind of "stuff" the kids are raving about these days. The pup (Chance) was watching with me and the expression on his face says it all.
(7) We're in week 17 of our pregnancy and I've been looking online for info on fetal development. I found this video and thought I'd share it with you.
It must be all the crazy hormones one has when pregnant, because I was bawling my eyes out through the entire video!
I made Hubby watch the video with me. He kept laughing as I wept, "It's such a miracle! It's such a miracle! Can you believe this is happening inside my body now???" Then, the reality of having to actuallydeliver birth PUSH OUT a baby five months from now hit me! The weeping turned into full on sobbing!

(2) Oh! Remember those two pergolas my dad made for me earlier this year? This is what they look like with the plants and flowers growing. Don't pay attention to the grass that needs to be cut. Hubby and I have been too busy to cut the grass are trying to save on gas are trying to maintain a "green" and natural look haven't had a chance to get the lawn mower fixed yet.
I've also got some Clematis, Hollyhocks, Hostas, Columbine, Evening Primrose, and a few other plants and flowers growing by the pergolas.
(3) The past weekend was a very busy one. Friday kicked off the weekend with "The Meeting of the Drums". It is an event organized and hosted by the wonderful folks at the South Bay Art Gallery. Caribbean steel drums and the pow wow drums meet in a symbolic meshing of two cultures. It was a wonderful two day event. I was only able to attend the first night, since my Saturday was completely booked.
The Pan Fantasy Steel Band played popular steel drum tunes. Everyone was up and dancing to the lively music that reminded me of my many travels to Trinidad & Tobago as a child and teenager!
There was also a smudge ceremony and some First Nations drum groups played as well. The first night there were speeches. Among the speakers was Michael Lashley, the Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
Here's a video of the steel band playing their festive island tunes. Sorry about the unsteady hand! It's hard to dance to steel band music and take a video!
(4) Saturday was our township's library bake sale/book sale. Keeping the library running is something that is very important to me. When our kids get older, I'd love to have them experience the joy of going to the library, picking out books, and reading actual books! The internet is a wonderful thing, but there's nothing like cracking open the spine of a well-loved book and having that tactile and visual experience. I used to love the bedtime stories my parents would read to us when we were kids.
Not only did I do some baking for the bake sale, but I also volunteered. Like the cute name tag one of the girls made for me to wear during the bake sale?I also got a t-shirt for a donation I made to the library. If you are an "Islander", you'll appreciate this! Those of you who have no idea why this is cute, clever, or funny, I'll clue you in. People who were born on "The Island" are known as "Haweaters". There's a plant called the hawthorn plant on the Island and the berries are used in jams, preserves, and other things. People who were born here are "haw eaters". Get it? :)
(5) Saturday was also the second night of Broadway and Beyond. If you ever get the chance to catch a show at The Burns Wharf Theater, please do! You will not be disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Every single song performed was brilliant! The Burns Wharf Theater Players are all so very talented.
(6) We attended church on Sunday morning and in the evening it was Mexican night with some friends. I have been craving Mexican food lately and our friends were so kind as to prepare a veritable Mexican feast! It was fantastic! For some reason, all I want to eat is either fruits, veggies or spicy food!!!

City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

Awww. The actual baby coming out part isn't that bad~ we are built for that. ;) It also means that all the pregnancy soreness and "stuff" will be over. Next comes the sweet bundle in your arms, the perfect face, the amazing skin... It only gets better. :)

oh chris; you are to funny! the look on chance"s face is hillarious; kind of lke the look i get on my face when our oldest daughter listens to hanah montana and miley cyrus. i remember having a crush on miley's dad when i was younger. but hte only song iknow of his is the achy breaky. go, billy ray!
it's true what rosie said- the baby coming out part isn't that bad. you'll forget about the pain and everything else once you have that precious bundle of joy in your arms.
i love the video. i'm not preggers and i can understand how you would be emotional.
i love chance's reaction...i would have like to have seen your reaction! or even your widdle baby's reaction in your tum tum.
I'm so glad I actually didn't have to PUSH my bambino out! Men just don't get it. That's why I could never go to a male gyno. It is a complete miracle the way two mere chemicals combine to create a baby. You're so right to celebrate it, even by weeping tears of joy.
I love the fact that I'm not the only one who's not mowing. Everything is pretty burned off around here and I use an old fashioned mower now soo...
Is there anything you haven't gotten for baby yet? I'd love to send you something special. XO
ps...on the whole popular music phenomena: gag. i personally think it's a parents responsibility to expose their kids to a variety of cool music and not let the tele dictate a diet of current crap. hope i didn't break anyone's achy breaky heart...xo
Happy National Dog Day to you and Chance, C.!
Rosie:
Awww! Thanks for that :) I have always loved the idea of carrying a baby in me for 9 months...but the actual having it petrifies me! Thanks for reminding me that it only gets better :)
Hot Mommy:
Yeah, Chance's reaction was pretty funny. You could tell how unimpressed he was!
Deb:
Hello, gorgeous! Yep! That video had me IN TEARS!! It really is incredible that all of that is going on inside the body. I sometimes stop and think, "HOW is that all happening?" It really does seem like a miracle!
As for my reaction...Well, let me tell you that the show was only on for less than 5 minutes before I shut off the TV!!!!
C, you made me laugh out loud with this... I get that you're crying a LOT these days, but that last line about all out sobbing... hysterical!!!
Don't worry about that, though. I am the biggest chicken, and yet even knowing all that I was so determined to have the kidlets. You just have to focus on the fact that in the end you have that cuddly, sweet baby. Precious.
So, get this...little G is crushing on the Jonas brothers!!!!She was so upset when she found out they came for a concert and her cousin went... and she didn't get to go! Oy, she's not even 4 yet!!!
Ms.Mamma:
Hello, my sweet, talented, totally cool (and very first) blog friend! ;) I am sooooooo with you on that, sista!
Oh, yeah...we totally haven't mowed our lawn in a while! When the price of gas shot up, I told Hubby I wanted to get an old fashioned push mower. Nothing that required gas or needed to be plugged in. Those are the coolest! I just need to get my hands on one!
Ditto on the music thing. I know this sounds bizarre, but I've been listening to a lot of Bob Marley, Simon and Garfunkel, and a mix of oldies, classic rock, Latino music, Caribbean music...imagine the things this baby will be listening to in utero? LOL!
Awwwww...You are so sweet. Really, you don't need to send the baby anything! I haven't really gotten anything yet aside from some baby clothes and a few odds and ends. I figured we have a few months to go until baby gets here, but man, is time ever flying by!!!
Hugs for you and SF!! You are the best! XOXO
Jeanna:
Awwww! Right back at ya! ;) What a bad doggy mama I am! I had no idea today was National Dog Day!
Happy NDD to you, Roscoe and the rest of those lovable pooches over there!
Karen:
Uhhhh...yeah. That last line was funny because I was actually sobbing!!! LOL!
I'm actually in the process of looking for prenatal classes and such. I need to prepare myself! LOL! GAWD...I am such a spazz, I tell ya!
That is sooooo funny about Little G! That kid is ADORABLE!!!
"DON'T YELL AT ME, I'M A VOLUNTEER", that is so funny Chris!
So is your babe going to be a "Haweater" or are you having him or her in the "city"?
hubby laughing/you sobbing...that's because he doesn't have to deliver! Trust me, reverse roles and he'd be sobbing too!
I have the same look when watching Hannah Montana ;)
Your plants and flowers look lovely! My grass is in the same boat.
I love the creative name tags! So cute and clever!!!
Babies are the best! And all that pushing will be worth it. :) My baby granddaughter is due on Christmas day. :) I can't wait to count her little fingers and toes. :)
Love your morning glories!!
What a busy week C!
And yes, the miracle of life is amazing.
T:
Well, I really wanted the baby to be a "Haweater", but my medical team wants me to deliver in "the city", "just in case". Because of some complications and concerns we've been having, they consider this a "high risk" pregnancy.
VE:
LOL! Yeah, I bet he's thinking "I'm just glad it's you and not me!" ;)
Sandy:
Oh! I'm glad to hear that a lot of us are in the same boat with regard to the condition of our lawn! We've got so much grass to cut, that it costs A LOT in gas to get the job done. Mind you, the price of gas isn't the only factor. Our lawn mower really is on the fritz!
Lisa:
Oh, wow! BTW, I was supposed to be a Christmas baby too! Only, I arrived a week early! My folks actually considered naming me "Christmas". Thank goodness I came early! LOL!
I bet you are super excited about the new arrival! It's amazing to see the interaction between grandparents and their grandchildren!
Louann:
Yes, it was! It sounds so funny, but I just don't have the energy to do all the things I used to. After an entire weekend of being on the go all day and all night, I was completely exhausted.
I think I may have overdone it a bit, because on Monday the morning sickness, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and headaches came back!
