Mama Loves
Sophie the Giraffe - classic teething toy from France. Made from natural rubber, it is safe, soft and non-toxic. Perfect for babies to chew on. Sophie is also made with non-toxic food grade paints. Little One LOVES her Sophie. She loves the soft texture and the squeaky sound Sophie makes when squeezed. Little One loves rubbing her gums on Sophie's ears and feet. Perfect for a teething baby!
Sophie sells for $21.99 CAD at Babies R Us. You can probably find lower prices elsewhere, but I've always seen the price around the $20-$22 range.
Bumbo Baby Sitter - made with low-density foam material, light weight, portable, and easy to clean. Perfect for helping babies sit independently in an upright sitting position. "The Bumbo has a favorable orthopedic effect that is important to assist in the correct spinal development of an infant. "
Little One loves sitting in her Bumbo. I feed her in it, she watches TV or plays while in her Bumbo, and it gives me the ability to do other things while she's in the room with me. I even read her storybooks sometimes while she's in her Bumbo. The Bumbo comes in many different colours. It's kind of pricey though. It retails for about $64.99 and can be found in many children's stores nationwide. You can also purchase it online at Babies R Us.
Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder - Quite possibly one of my favourite baby gadgets at the moment. Though Little One has been eating solids since July, I still worry about her choking on her food. The girl LOVES to feed herself! The Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder is amazing because it allows your baby to enjoy fresh food (fruit, vegetables, meat, etc) without choking! It's also BPA free.
Simply open the feeder, insert food into the mesh bag, snap shut and give to baby! It's easy to clean, safe (it locks tightly, so your baby cannot open it) and gives parents the peace of mind that no small pieces or chunks of food will choke the little one!
My Little One loves chewing, sucking, and gnawing at peaches, banana, and other food. Since she's teething, I think it also makes her feel good to rub her gums with it.
I love Munchkin products, but this one takes the cake!
Available at most children's stores, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc. Comes in packages of 1 or 2. The 2 pack sells for $9.99 online at Babies R Us.
Baby Mum-Mum Rice Rusks - The company states that Baby Mum-Mums can be given to babies as their first snack and may be given as soon as he or she is ready for solid food. Mum-Mums are made from specially selected fine quality rice and the "crackers" dissolve/melt in baby's mouth. My friend, SuperAmazingMommy gave me a box of Mum-Mums to try out on Little One. I could not believe my eyes when Little One devoured TWO whole rice rusks in one sitting! She loved the texture, the taste (I'm guessing she loved the taste, because she ate two of them!), and just being able to feed herself. I loved that the rice rusks melted in her mouth and weren't a choking hazard. Some moms have told me that they worried about chunks of Mum-Mums being bitten off by their babies, but Little One seemed fine with the Mum-Mums. She just sat there and happily fed herself. I also loved that there was no mess to clean up afterward...unlike with the Farley's Biscuits!

About the Blog Author
City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

didn't have sophie for our kids but every mom i know has one for their babies. apprarently babies really love sophie. my babes all loved farleys but your right, it's messy! my youngest still loves the mum mums. great for keeping him quiet, esp in the car! and every babe i know has a bumbo. couldn't live without ours! i took that thing everywhere; it's so light and easy to take with you. even to the beach
HM:
Have you seen Sophie's cousins? Cham, Pi, Gnon. They're mushrooms! My friend's baby has the mushrooms and Sophie. He loves chewing and chomping on the mushroom teething toy!
I remember my Mom giving us Farley's when we were little. They taste good! Little One really loves them. I'll still give them to her, despite the mess. It is nice that the Mum-Mums aren't so messy though! Anything that makes my job a little easier is a good thing! LOL! ;)
You took your Bumbo to the beach? Wow! I never even thought of that! Good idea! Thanks!
Rice Rusks????? Let me hear you say that 3 times fast!!!!LOL!
word verif......slaper
Jimmy:
LOL! I tried! It sounds really funny, and surprisingly difficult to say three times fast! ;)
I love hearing what other babies and Mommy's are into.
I really want a Sophie the Giraffe for Lily. I've heard so many good things about her.
We really like the bumbo but watch out she can fall out of it if she tries hard enough. We learned the hard way.
I've only tried the mesh bag with bananas so far and Lily hates bananas. I'm going to get some apples tomorrow and figured I'd try them in the mesh thing.
Great post.
I may be wrong, but I bought this book, 8 Steps to a Pain Free Back, which talks about how our posture causes so many problems with back pain, etc. And she shows pictures of babies in car seats and how it is bad for their posture (the more upright carseats, when a baby is asleep and slumped over), and it looks to me like this little seat is the perfect counterpoint, to balance out those times when baby is slumped over and hunching.

I pink puffy hear giraffes. I wish they had had Sophie when Maya was a baby. We were so old school back then, I feel like part of the silent generation coming before the boomers or something. Everything changes so dang fast. Just wait until L.O. is 13, and you have some friends with newborns, and you'll be saying, "Why didn't they have THAT when my daughter was a baby???" (Like those inserts for the grocery carts, so baby is more comfortable and not touching all of the germs...genius...)

So I wonder, does her doctor say you still have to be careful about her immune system? Or is it at the level of a 7 month old, vs. a 10 month old? My mom told me she worried about me as a baby, because I always got SO much sicker than my brother did, and I was premature. The doctor said, don't worry, you have a fighter there, she's stronger than most babies in here. Or else she'd be gone already. That's your L.O. She's been through more than most adults I know, and she's strong and healthy as a horse and happy and doesn't remember how scarey it was for you and John. It wasn't scary for her, because she couldn't think of it that way back then.
Anyway, I'm just wondering about her immune system this far in...
What great baby products. It's a wonderful service to show moms there are alternatives out there.
Well I guess we're two for four - BABY is a big fan of Sophie and her Bumbo. I'll have to check out Sophie's cousins now!

We used / loved all of these, except the rice cakes -- never bought any!
The Bumbo in particular was a life saver.
