A Special Anniversary
Today marks a very special day for our family. It marks the ten year anniversary of my father-in-law's death. Sadly, I never had the opportunity of meeting my father-in-law, as he died just over two years before Hubby and I got together.
From what everyone tells me, my father-in-law was a wonderful man and a very hard worker. I am sad that Little One and I never had a chance to meet him, but we talk about him and she loves looking at photos of him.
There's another reason May 31st is of special significance to us. On this day four years ago, we found out we were expecting!
For absolutely no reason at all, I got up in the morning and decided I needed to take a pregnancy test. I don't know why. I had no pregnancy symptoms. I just felt like taking a pregnancy test.
I totally was not expecting to see the two lines on the test and was in total shock!
I was in such disbelief that by the end of the week, I had taken ten (yes, TEN!) pregnancy tests! I had also been to the doctor and had the blood test done, but I STILL couldn't believe we were going to be parents! It was one of the most exciting days of my life.
Yes, I know. Pretty crazy, right? I don't know if it was so much as obsessiveness or complete shock and disbelief! :)

Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

LOL 10 tests! That's great. I think I did the same thing with all of my pregnancies. It's just so hard to believe it's real until you get symptoms and can feel the baby move.
Oh Christine you are the sweetest! It is sad that LO never got to meet such a wonderful man!
What a unique story!! I believe it was your FIL telling you to take the test to find out the gift he gave you!!
lol @ the tests. I have a Pee on a Stick addiction too. I guess you were a little in disbelief haha.
:D
Cool anniversary - even though it's a bittersweet one.
Sorry to hear you and your little one didn't have a chance to meet before he passed away. It's nice to hear stories and have pictures so that your little one can at least put a face to the stories she'll be hearing as the years come. Hugs for you guys on this day.
And wow girly, 10 test, LOL! You have me beat! I remember taking three test, plus blood work when I first found out I was preggo with DD6, lol!
Julia:
So true! I think it only became "real" when I heard our baby's heartbeat for the first time and saw her moving in our first ultrasound!
Whoa! What an incredible feeling.
Kelly:
Pretty wild, eh? I love hearing everyone's "two lines" stories/how they found out they were pregnant stories.
P.S. I adore you! You're always so peppy and full of life! xo
Lisa Marie:
LOL! Yes! A pee on a stick addiction! Hubby said I had to stop and that we were keeping the pregnancy test company in business! :)
Just us Girls:
Yes, it is very bittersweet. Everyone in our community always tells me, "I really wish you had met your father-in-law. He was such a wonderful man". I wish I had the chance to as well :(
HAHAHA! Yes, even after 10 home tests AND a blood test, I was still in disbelief! LOL! It was such a happy day on what would have been a sad day otherwise (anniversary of FIL's death).
I took about 7 - LOL!
Thanks for sharing, Christine. And I'm sorry R.A. didn't get a chance to meet her Grandpa. But what a pleasant surprise to find out on FIL's death anni -- definitely some sentimental and personal connection there. :)
Wow, ten tests! I usually know that I'm pregnant before I even take test, so I only do one. :) That's too bad about your FIL. My husband had a couple uncles pass away just before I met him - they were neat men, but I never had the chance to know them.
Such a bittersweet post!!
I had to giggle at the picture of all the pregnancy tests. Glad to know I'm not the only pee-on-a-stick-aholic!! ;)
Carol:
Thanks :) Yeah, I'm quirky that way! I often think of my FIL and really wish we were able to have him in our life. It's really weird not having him here.
Bonnie:
Yes! I've heard many friends say that they "just knew"! I didn't! We had been trying to have a baby for a few months and each month we weren't pregnant, so I guess I learned not to expect anything. This would probably be why I was so shocked when I actually WAS pregnant! LOL!
Nicole:
LOL! I love you!! My pee-on-a-stick-aholic sista!!
what a sweet post about your FIL.
i totally remember when you shared the good news about your pregnancy. i was so touched that you shared it with me personally....
Okay I shouldn't laugh but I was thinking what a great pic to show your kid, Hey I wanted to be so dang sure to have you mama took an overdose of tests hahahaha.
Great post made me giggle! Happy Anniversary. :)
Never did any tests. just had vomiting and drowsiness. which i confirmed myself pregnant. 18 Weeks Pregnant Symptoms
