Win a $5000 Family Vacation with Kellogg's Rice Krispies!

As a kid, I remember one of the most exciting things to do was to be able to bake cookies or create edible goodies in the kitchen with my Mom. I don't recall this happening too often, but every once in a while we were able to do fun stuff in the kitchen with Mom.

I even remember the very first time we made Rice Krispies treats! That ooey-gooey all-time favourite for kids was so exciting to make! It wasn't that hard to make and it was just so much fun.

Now that my daughter is three years old and loves helping in the kitchen, I am inspired to have her create some edible treats for Grandma this Mother's Day.  I've been letting her help in the kitchen since she was two. She already helps me with baking cookies, cakes, and bread. She loves putting on her little apron and chef's hat that a friend of mine made for her birthday. Little One even helps me measure out the flour and sugar. She helps crack the eggs and beat, mix, blend, and incorporate all the ingredients. It's a lot of extra work for me (the clean up is ten times more than if I would have just done everything myself), but the process is what is important. Ha! I must remember to keep telling that to myself when there's flour all over my counter, table, and floor!

With Spring here, the buds on the trees, birds chirping, and flowers blooming, I thought Little One would love to make something Spring inspired for her Grandma. www.ricekrispies.ca has lots of great ideas to help inspire you and your budding chef!

I've found for Little One, if she creates something in the kitchen and makes it with her own two hands, she will definitely eat it! We don't have issues with her and eating (the kid eats everything from okra, seaweed, tofu, eggplant to fish, liver, and even things Mommy doesn't eat!). However, I love showing her what food is before and after you prepare it. The amazement in her eyes is classic!
As I mentioned earlier, I wanted Little One to make something "pretty" and Spring-inspired. Maybe something pink and yellow. Something really "girlie".

"Let's make a Rice Krispies flower bouquet for Grandma!"
"No. I want to make a dog, because I like dogs."
"Ummm...Okay."

This is what my three year old's Rice Krispies creation looked like in the end. It's definitely not as aesthetically pleasing as I thought it would be, but it is her creation...which makes it beautiful. Sort of.

If you are feeling the creative spirit, Rice Krispies has an exciting contest going on right now where you can win a $5000 family vacation!
Check out the Rice Krispies website for more information and to enter to win!

We are not allowed to make Rice Krispie squares in my house anymore because Daddy eats them all in one day....

Our little one LOVES creating things in the kitchen. It's pretty cute. She also loves creating a huge mess, but it's all good! lol

I feel badly - I feel so lazy lately with the kitchen concoctions that I almost wished little one wanted to make just the plain rice krispie squares and nothing fancy. LOL! :)

Oh, she indeed has a lot of fun in the kitchen. She ALWAYS wants to help. I need to learn to let her "help" more and not worry so much about the clean-up after. I "try" to let her help as much as she can and as often as she can, but I have a gnawing dislike for mess :( It's quite the dilemma when you've got a 3 year old! Mess and young children often go hand in hand! LOL!

LOL! That's exactly what my husband said!
