It's A Sad Sight
Despite my best efforts to only feed Little One mainly healthy, homemade, wholesome, nutritious, unprocessed food, on occasion, people will give her junk... crap...a treat. She's been known to come home from visiting with friends and family covered in chocolate stains and saying, "Baby choc-lit? Cake! Ice cream! Yes?"
Hubby came home from work with Smarties for Little One. He bumped into a friend who wanted to give Little One a little treat. Mmmm...CHOCOLATE!!! I think a 50g container of Smarties is a lot for a kid to eat, so I've been doling them out to her bit by bit. Okay, it's more like 3 or 4 Smarties a go.
This morning, she found the Smarties box and got hold of it. As she tried to open the box, all the Smarties went flying out and spilled all over the floor!
My two year old flung herself onto the floor, trying to save the Smarties. "Ohhhhhhh noooooooo!!! Choc-lit!!!" could be heard throughout the entire house. Such a sad, sad sight. The look on her face and the urgency in her voice were just so funny and sad at the same time!
*Sadder still is that she won't give up her soother! I'm trying here! Anyone have any helpful tips on how to wean a toddler from her beloved soother?

Baby Gourmet
When I was first introducing solid food to Little One, I was paranoid about her consuming ingredients that were unhealthy. I decided that I would make all of her baby food. I made batches of veggie and fruit purees. Then I started making mixed foods (meats, potatoes, pasta, rice, veggies) and pureed those too. I put them in ice cube trays and froze them for future use. It was so convenient and so easy to do.
Contrary to common belief, making homemade baby food was not in the least bit time consuming or difficult. At our house, we eat lots of healthy produce (loads of fresh vegetables and fruit), so whatever we were eating, I'd put some aside for Little One and puree it for her. She ate what we ate, and to this day she still eats whatever we're eating.
The kid loves okra, spinach, eggplant, bok choy, cucumber, seaweed, broccoli, and other vegetables I never thought she'd like!
Some say we got lucky that we don't have a picky eater and that our toddler loves her vegetables. I'd like to think it's because she sees us eating and enjoying all those delicious veggies and knows that this is just what we eat in our household.
When I was asked to review a new organic baby food, I was really excited. I only wish I had this brand of baby food when Little One was eating baby food! All of their products have 100% Organic Ingredients, No Thickeners or Fillers, No Added Sugar or Salt, and BPA-free packaging.
We tested the Baby Gourmet products as soon as the box was delivered to our house! We were sent the full line of products - one of each flavour.
The All Stage Sampler box contains:
The next thing I noticed was the variety of flavours. There are so many delicious combos to choose from. Of course, me being the foodie that I am, I used to make a variety of combos for Little One when she was a baby too. I was curious as to whether Baby Gourmet lived up to my homemade baby food recipes! Of course, I tried it! I wouldn't give my child anything unless I've tried it first! It was delicious.
When I turned the packaging over to read the ingredients for the Vanilla Banana Berry Risotto, I was happy to see that the first ingredient was Organic Banana. It was followed by Organic Apple, Organic Brown Rice, Water, Organic Blueberry, Pure Organic Vanilla Extract, Ascorbic Acid, and Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate. Yes, I was very happy indeed!
Since Little One turned two years old in November, she isn't exactly a baby anymore and hasn't eaten baby food in AGES. I asked my friend to come over with her baby (who has just started eating solids recently) so we could taste test some of the products for my review. With the help of my friend's 6 month old, we had a blast with the Sweet Potato Pie (since she's already been introduced to sweet potato).
The result?
Baby Sunday loved Baby Gourmet! She sampled the Baby Sweet Potato Pie and couldn't get enough!
Little One, not wanting to be left out of the action, tried some too. She saw the Baby Gourmet packages on the table and swiped one off the table, yelling "Juice! Juice! Juice!"
After taking a sip (Yes, I let her do it. I was curious to see her reaction!), she quickly realized it wasn't juice and said, "Smoothie?"
My toddler taste tested the Vanilla Banana Berry Risotto and the Apple Sweet Potato Berry Swirl, and loved them. She's not a baby anymore, but since I have the products, I was thinking of adding some of the Baby Gourmet into her oatmeal in the morning for some added fruits and veggies. I've given my friend the stage 1 and state 2 products for Baby Sunday to enjoy.
As a Mom who is concerned with what my child eats and with what goes into her little body, I would highly recommend Baby Gourmet. I made Little One's baby food, but would have been so thankful to have these products around when Little One was starting solid food! Delicious, wholesome, natural, and healthy, Baby Gourmet is also a very convenient alternative to "homemade by Mom" baby food.
GREAT NEWS!!! Baby Gourmet is now available at your local Walmart stores!
*Disclosure- I was given The All Stage Sampler Box from Baby Gourmet for reviewing purposes. The opinions on this blog are my own.

"Baby Gourmet, an organic baby food company, is aiming to change the way parents view packaged baby foods. While many of the standard options lining grocery store shelves are bland and full of fillers, addtivies and preservatives, Baby Gourmet food is 100% organic, free of thickeners and fillers and best of all, tastes delicious, even to discerning adults. The company consistently asks, "Why feed it to your baby if you wouldn't eat it yourself?"
Beginning with the first stage of simple purees such as Juicy Pear and Garden Greens and graduating to the final stage of tasty textures including Vanilla, Banana, Berry Risotto, Baby Gourmet changes the perception that baby food can't taste good in a natural state, free of sugar and salt."
The All Stage Sampler box contains:
- 1 pouch of Stage 1 Orchard Apple, Carrot & Prune
- 1 pouch of Stage 1 Juicy Pear & Garden Greens
- 1 pouch of Stage 1 Harvest Pear, Pumpkin & Banana
- 1 pouch of Stage 2 Baby’s Sweet Potato Pie
- 1 pouch of Stage 2 Apple Sweet Potato Berry Swirl
- 1 pouch of Stage 2 Roasted Squash & Fruit Medley
- 1 pouch of Stage 3 Vanilla Banana berry Risotto
- 1 pouch of Stage 3 Tropical Banana Bliss
- 1 pouch of Stage 3 Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

We Will Rock You! JetBaby Giveaway!
Many people ask me where I get Little One's rockin' onesies and funky t-shirts. The answer? JetBaby, of course!
What I absolutely love about JetBaby is that they have a variety of really cool rock tees and outfits. It's not your standard, run of the mill, boring, generic type of children's clothing. Little One is bursting with character and personality, so I figure that her clothing should too!
Okay, the fact that JetBaby carries rock onesies and tees from my favourite bands kind of influenced me! When JetBaby says they've got "Cool Stuff for Little Kids", they mean it! The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, KISS, Poison, The Ramones, Bob Marley, Guns 'N Roses, AC/DC, Beastie Boys, Led Zeppelin...You name it, and they've got it!
JetBaby carries a whole slew of other cool merchandise like bibs, hats, pacifier clips, mittens, hoodies, lounge wear, toys, books, and CDs! Oh, wait! How could I possibly forget about SHOES!?!? Yes, there is fancy footwear for all the coolest kids on the block!
I love JetBaby so much that I've given rock onesies to friends for their newborn babes. I always get the coolest feedback. Recently, I sent a friend a Metallica onesie for his newborn son. Total blast from the past for my friend! Love it! My husband loves the fact that JetBaby carries John Deere items too! That's the farmer in him!
BUY IT!
Where can you purchase your JetBaby items? You can head to the JetBaby store located here OR you can buy those rockin' tees online on the JetBaby website!

The Return Of The Tarts!!!
The Laundry Tarts, that is!
The New Year is upon us, and what better way to usher in 2011 than by having amazing smelling clothes?! Okay, I'm a weirdo. I love yummy smelling clothes. What I love even more is that the Tarts are all about natural products, sustainability, and helping others learn about preserving and enjoying the environment.
A few months ago, I was perusing the Everything Mom and Baby blog. Everything Mom and Baby always has such great product reviews. Erica is a mommy who is in the know about all things baby, mom, and family. She is also very mindful of what goes onto baby's skin, how it affects the environment, etc.
On that particular day, I was introduced to The Laundry Tarts. Ever since then, I've been lusting over their sumptuous, scrumptious, delectable, too-bad-they-aren't-edible laundry detergent. Together, Jessy Cooke and Michelle Waithe have created a fantastic product that does not include chlorine, phosphates, sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate, parabens, phthalates, or animal products.
You can trust that you'll be treading a little lighter on our planet when doing your laundry with the Laundry Tarts.
The Laundry Tarts have concocted all kinds of enticing combinations of scents like:
Plain Jane, Oatmeal Almond, Black Forest Cake, Cinnamon Buns, Key Lime Pie, Vanilla Dulce, Lemon Meringue Pie, Banana Bread, Birthday Cake, Mint Chocolate Chip, Canadian Maple, Cherry Pie, Caramel Apple, Orange Spice, Gingerbread Cookies, Chocolate, Caramel Popcorn, Orange Dreamsicle, Cookie Dough, Grapefruit, Rootbeer Float, Strawberry Shortcake, Bubble Gum, Pina Colada, Tiger Tail, Orchard Peach, and Chocolate Cherry.
The Laundry Tarts sure know how to kick start the New Year. These ladies are super fun. Check out their Facebook Page and you'll know what I mean.
Help them reach 500 fans and be eligible for a prize! FREE Giveaway, once they reach 500 fans! Go to their FB page, "like" them, and spread the word! Tell them I sent you :)
They also have a contest up right now for a year's supply of Laundry Tarts detergent! To enter this fab contest, all you have to do is e-mail them at gypsyrose@thelaundrytarts.com and tell them in poem, song, story, video or dance why they should do your laundry for a year!
Wait! I still have one more thing to tell you! One of you will be eligible to win a free sample of Laundry Tarts detergent (scent of your choice) right here!
TO WIN:
Leave me a comment here, telling me what scent you'd like to try! Head over to the Laundry Tarts on Facebook, and "like" them. Tell them I sent you :) (3 entries) *It is mandatory to "like" them on FB if you want your entry to count.*
Please leave a separate comment for each entry. Also, please leave me an e-mail address so I can contact you if you win.
Additional entries:

Cheerios® First Foods and a Giveaway!
I remember when the time came for Little One to start eating solid food. Because Little One was a preemie, I worried that her stomach might not be developed enough to handle solid food. I waited longer than many parents do when they introduce first foods to their babies. I waited quite a bit longer.
Little One did express interest in food at an early age though. We couldn't keep her on breast milk alone for much longer. She ended up self-weaning at 16 months of age, but at 8 months, we started her off with rice cereal. Then she tried oats. Then came barley. Pretty soon, she was eating pureed fruits and veggies (homemade, of course!). There wasn't anything Little One didn't like. Until this day, she still has a voracious appetite and she still eats everything and anything! *Knock on wood!*
When it came to Little One's first finger food, it is no surprise that we chose Cheerios. Little One and I were visiting my friends and family in Montreal, when my friend asked if Little One could have some Cheerios. Her daughter was the same age and was already eating Cheerios. I was a bit nervous, as Little One had never had any finger food before.
"They get wet and dissolve in their mouths. Don't worry", said my friend.
Little One ended up loving Cheerios, and has been addicted ever since! I have to admit, that moment was kind of like a milestone for me! I always seem to feel a little bit of sadness when Little One reaches a new milestone. I know I should be celebrating, but it makes her being no longer a baby very apparent. Poof! And, now she's 2 years old!
I did go home and scour online community boards for what most moms chose as Baby's first finger food! Yes, I'm weird like that! Again, it is no surprise that there was an overwhelming number of moms and dads who chose Cheerios! It's interesting to note that results of a 2008 independent survey of Canadian pediatricians showed that "4 out of 5 pediatricians recommend Cheerios for their infant or toddler patients". It is also no surprise that Cheerios has been a trusted cereal by Moms for over 50 years!

Being a first time mom, I checked out birth clubs online, and mom/baby online community boards. I sought advice and tips from Little One's family doctor, Neonatologist, medical team, as well as from my family, friends, and other moms I knew.

I felt confident knowing that Little One's pediatrician approved and suggested that we give Little One Cheerios! She spoke of those nutritious whole grain "O"s being very good for developing motor skills. She couldn't stop talking about how great they were for manual dexterity. I remember laughing every time Little One tried to get them in her mouth. At the beginning, she would just grab a bunch of Cheerios in her fist and try to shove them in her mouth. It was so funny! After a while, she got better at picking them up...One Cheerio at a time.
Mom Central is very excited to share a totally new section on BabyCenter.ca! It's the Cheerios First Foods Section on babycenter.ca! How exciting is that!? I started following BabyCenter even before we got pregnant. When we were in the "thinking about getting pregnant" stage of our marriage, I would check out BabyCenter.ca, as I knew it was one of the most trusted sites of its kind. I followed Little One's growth online, read weekly updates, chatted with other moms who were expecting around the same time as I was, read lots of great articles, and asked questions on babycenter.ca. I loved that BabyCenter proved to be a trusted resource for both first time moms and seasoned pros experienced moms!
I absolutely love that the Cheerios First Foods section on BabyCenter.ca has launched! The section features expert information on how and when to introduce certain foods, tips for picky eaters, and so on. There are even menu plans and other tools that can make life a little easier for busy moms!
Two companies trusted by Canadian moms have teamed up to offer moms this great new First Foods section! Cheerios and BabyCenter.ca! Make sure to check out the new Cheerios First Foods section for all your first food questions!
If you thought that was great, it gets even better!
Win a Cheerios Prize Pack!!!
- The Cheerios Prize Pack ($50 value!) will include a: Cheerios On-the-go Tot Container, Cheerios playbook, Box of Cheerios, Bowl and utensil set and a $30 Cash Card.

Pretty Princess Parties and MORE!
A friend of mine sent me a message, telling me to join a particular Facebook page today. I get a zillion and one Facebook notices, that *gasp* I usually don't even bother looking at them. I know, I know. I'm terrible!
However, seeing that my toddler is a pretty princess/tutu/ballerina kinda gal, I just had to check out the site! Oh, okay...I've also got a thing for pretty, frou-frou, ooooh la la kind of things for my toddler. Those of you who know me, know that I used todislike hate everything pink, frilly, and girlie...
...Then I had a daughter and my whole world changed. Now, I can't get enough frou-frou things!
Crazy how life changes when you have kids! Truth be told, I think I subconsciously seek out all things girlie for my little girl because countless strangers have approached me at the grocery store, mall, etc...asking "How old is he?" Not wanting my child to grow up with everyone thinking she's a he, I try to dress her up in pink and the most girlie kind of outfits imaginable. Yes, even with ribbons in her hair and EARRINGS in her ears, people still ask if she's a boy! Argh.

However, seeing that my toddler is a pretty princess/tutu/ballerina kinda gal, I just had to check out the site! Oh, okay...I've also got a thing for pretty, frou-frou, ooooh la la kind of things for my toddler. Those of you who know me, know that I used to
...Then I had a daughter and my whole world changed.
Argh.

Mabel's Labels Obsession
I have to confess that I am slightly obsessed with Mabel's Labels. Little One's personal belongings all sport the cute, colourful, personalized labels from www.mabel.ca. I love that the labels are water resistant, are dishwasher and microwave safe...and they don't fade or peel off either! I love them so much that I get them for birthday presents for Little One's cousins and friends.
I've recently learned that they're great to have when everyone's sippy cups are all over the place at play group or other social outings!
Here's yet another reason to love Mabel's Labels: If you order through this site, you get your labels and Easter Seals earns money for some very deserving children! Easter Seals helps kids with physical disabilities succeed.
http://www.easterseals.mabel.ca/
Great news for those looking for fundraising ideas! Mabel's Labels offers a great way to help schools and organizations reach their fundraising goals. You can go with the traditional brochure-based fundraiser or opt for the paperless "green" fundraiser.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time!
Little One absolutely loves dinosaurs. She loves Dinosaur Train and Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs. If you ask her what sound a dinosaur makes, she'll let out a big "RAWWWWWRRRRR!"
She loves dinosaurs!
At least I thought she did!
Since we were in Ottawa and since we were only a few blocks from the Museum of Nature, I thought it would be a fantastic idea to take Little One on an outing that was fun and educational. Yes, I realize she is only 2 years old. Still, I thought it would be a fabulous idea! What fun!
She HATED the dinosaur exhibit. Hated it! She started crying and screaming, "Out! Out! OUT!!!!" The poor thing was traumatized!
Me: It's okay, honey! They're not real.
Little One: No, no, no, no, nooooo! (crying)
Me: But you LOVE dinosaurs! Dinosaur Train! Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs...
LO: Nooooo. (whimpering)
Me: Okay, okay...
LO: Out! Out! Out! Out! OUTTTTT! Wahhhhhhhhh!
What I don't get is that she LOVED the bison, caribou, moose, grizzly bears, pronghorns, and other large mammal displays. She didn't want to leave the museum! *sigh*

FYI
Ottawa is a really cool place!
When I lived in Montreal and in Toronto, I always thought of Ottawa as a "small town". Yes, it is our nation's capital. Yes, Ottawa holds an interesting history. We'd always go to The Rideau Canal, the Science Center, Beaver Tails, and a few must visit places whenever we had out of the country visitors. Apart from Parliament Hill and all the touristy/school trip spots to see, I had never really explored Ottawa.
One of my good friends lives in Ottawa and she lives really close to the Museum of Nature. We're headed there this afternoon with the toddlers for some fun at the museum!
Little One is having such a blast. After a long drive from the Island to Kingston, she spent the weekend with her cousins. She just loves them so, so, soooo much. Now, we're in Ottawa and she's been having a great time with my friend's toddler. We're probably going to be island-bound tomorrow...unless Hubby tells us otherwise. When I called him yesterday, he told me that the water pipes were frozen after a cold spell and we do not have any water at either farm house! Ack! Maybe hanging out in Ottawa for a bit longer isn't a bad idea! ;)

Resurrected
Yes, I've gotten in touch with an old flame. I plan to have many clandestine encounters with this former love of mine.
We ignited our passion way back in 2007. For some reason, our love fizzled out after a while. My husband knew about this special relationship of mine and he supported it wholeheartedly. He actually encouraged it, and said that he saw how happy it made me! He remarked on how refreshed, renewed, rejuvinated, and exhilirated I looked after my daily rendez-vous!
Here you go. Straight from the vault, where I've kept the memories hidden since 2007! My old flame is none other than...Hip Hop Abs/Yoga Booty Ballet!!!
Sadly, it's true. I am an addict. Ever since Thanksgiving, my student and I have been hardcore working out. There are a few gyms on the Island, but we're so busy that I don't have time to commute to and from the gym. I have been doing Slim in 6 and Turbo Jam on and off for the past few years. They're excellent workouts, but I needed something new. I had received Yoga Booty Ballet and Hip Hop Abs with my Turbo Jam order, but never even thought of opening them. Here are some promotional photos of Yoga Booty Ballet and Hip Hop Abs. It's not as easy as it looks, people!
For some reason, I had the urge to see what it was all about. I think I was turned off because I am by no means a ballet dancer. I'm not graceful enough and I am in serious lack of poise. My mother enrolled me in jazz ballet when I was a kid. I took one lesson and then decided it wasn't for me. I'm not a girlie girl by any means. I'm also not very coordinated. I've got two left feet and can't seem to follow steps. I took a Hip Hop class when I lived in Toronto a few years ago. I swear, I looked like a chicken on crack. I'm embarrassed to say that I just don't have any sense of coordination.
I do love music and I do love dancing though. I love dancing to music where I can "feel" the music and follow the rhythm. That's why I used to love going to clubs that play reggae, calypso, soca, etc. Just let your body go with the flow!
There, in its original plastic wrap, lay my Yoga Booty Ballet/Hip Hop Abs DVD. It was time to check this baby out. We popped in the DVD and oh my goodness! It was like instant love! I wanted more and more and more! The workout was hard, but so much fun! I am officially addicted! I ask myself if I'm addicted to the workout or if I'm addicted to the feeling I get after the workout.
Oh, I don't have to worry about looking like a chicken on crack with all of the fancy footwork and gyrating body parts, because I'm in my own house! I keep my student and my husband entertained. That's for sure!
**I'm finding that even with dance class, Zumba, walking up and down the highway after work, and eating healthy, it's still not enough. Maybe doing all of the above and Yoga Booty Ballet/Hip Hop Abs might help even more?

Toddler-isms
Little One was looking at photos of her cousin Kenny and twin cousins (Brooklyn and Olivia) on Facebook and said, "Ohhhh! KENNY! Brookie! Other one!" BAHAHAHA!
Me: "What's your name?"
Little One: "Ra-Ra!"
Me: "Yay!" (clapping hands) "What's your name again?"
Little One: "Elmo".
Hahaha! She cracks me up!
Little One was not quite sure what to make of some of the American Idol contestants on TV the other night! One minute, Little One was dancing and bopping around to the music and the next minute, she had a perplexed "WHY are they making that NOISE?!" look on her face! Oh, and Steven Tyler cracks me up! Love him!
Me: (noticing how sleepy Little One was looking) Is it time for bed?
Little One: No. (shaking her head)
Me: Do you want to stay up by yourself? Mommy's going to bed.
Little One: No.
Me: Can Mommy go to bed then?
Little One: No.
For some reason way beyond my comprehension, Little One decided to remove all her clothing and parade around the house. She stopped in the living room and put her hands on her chest.
Little One: HAHAHAHAHAHA! Ohhhhhhhh! BOOBIES! (and, proceeded to laugh her head off while covering her breasts).
Little One has discovered that if she sucks up her beverage from her straw sippy cup, she can store liquid in her mouth, swoosh it around her mouth and then spit it out all over the floor.
Me: AH! Please don't do that. It's not nice.
Little One: (giggling) Ohhhh...Not nice. (Then proceeds to do it again)
Me: AH! Mommy said that wasn't nice. If you do that, it means you're all done. *sigh* Now Mommy has to clean that mess. (As I throw a paper towel on the floor to absorb the liquid)
Little One: All done, Mommy! (She smiles sweetly and starts wiping up her drink with the paper towel. Honestly, how can I get mad at someone so cute???)
