Mother Hen
Baby Bro has been gone about 24 hours now. He and C left the Island around this time yesterday. Before they left, Hubby and I took them to The Garden's Gate for lunch. Actually, Hubby calls lunch "dinner" since he's a farmer. He has breakfast, dinner and supper. Dinner, as it was explained to me is the heartier, bigger meal of the day and apparently farmers eat their biggest meal in the middle of the day...which makes sense. Anyway, this is what I was told.
Okay, the Garden's Gate is my absolute favourite place to dine! Baby Bro and C loved it too. The four of us had some good laughs and delicious food. Everything is fresh, made from scratch, and from the finest ingredients. The GG gets most of their ingredients locally. Even their beer and wine are Canadian...and more notably, Ontarian! I just love, love, love people who support locally! For dessert, Baby Bro was torn between the keylime pie and the mango cheesecake!
I tried to prolong our visit, but I knew Baby Bro had a long drive ahead of him. I just hate it when he has to return to K-town. It just makes me so sad. You see, Baby Bro and I are 11 years apart. I was like his second mother since our parents worked a lot when we were kids. Baby Bro was always the apple of my eye. We are very close.
We said our goodbyes and then I gave him a little present for his road trip back. Earlier in the morning, I had baked three dozen chocolate chip cookies so he and C would have something to munch on. I was actually going to pack some drinks, fruit and sandwiches for them, but ran out of time. I made a cute card with a monkey on it (Baby Bro was my little monkey when he was a baby) and wrote this ridiculously sappy letter to him. Eventhough he's 21 already, he'll always be my Baby Bro.
I already miss Baby Bro soooooooo much!
Here's the recipe for the cookies I made for him. WARNING: These are NOT figure friendly cookies!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
1/2 c. butter
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. brown sugar, lightly packed
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour
1 1/2 c. milk choc. chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter, egg, vanilla, brown and white sugar. Mix in salt, baking soda, flour and choc. chips. Spoon mixture onto cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. I bake mine for 11 mins. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

Chrissy- The kinfolk use the same expressions 'round here. You're such a honey!
Chrissy, in response to the last two posts: Just wanted to tell you how much I admire your family and the relationships you guys have. I know, that no family is perfect but it seems like yours is very warm and tight. I wish I had a closer relationship with my older brother but it didn't work out. It's along and painful story that I don't usually share with anyone but I might blog about it some time.
I am glad to have met you even if just online.
How sweet are you!? I'm so glad you had a nice visit! I'm sure Baby Bro misses you lots, too. Thanks for that recipe!
It's seems like so much trouble to make them. Can I just pay you and you can FedEx me a ton of 'em? :)
Chrissy, you are the sweetest! Wish I had an older sister like that. Love me some Chocolate chip cookies too! Ditto on what Dan said!LOL
Wow! I just realized that ALL of the people who left comments so far are American! :) That's cool!
Ms.Mamma:
LOL! Awww shucks! ;)
GM:
Thanks! I do love my family oh so much. I grew up with LOTS of cousins and we were all around the same age so it was like having a dozen siblings! We're super close. Speaking of relationships with brothers, I'm much closer to my youngest brother. My middle brother and I have gotten closer now that we're adults. He's the one with the really cute baby!
GM (and anyone else here, for that matter!), if you want to get in touch outside of the blogworld, you can e-mail me at cg underscore lee 121875 at hotmail dot com :) I'd love to hear from you outside blogger! Glad to have 'met' you too!
Doggy Mama:
I luuuuuuv my Baby Bro! LOL! Can you tell I've got separation anxiety?
Let me know how the cookies turn out! They're super easy to make and oh, so yummy!
Dan and Uncivil:
Think US customs would let me mail some cookies over to you? LOL! Or would they think they're laced with something. You know...those crazy Canadians up here... ;) LOL! Oh! I suppose I shouldn't say things like that, eh?
mmmmm...I have a weakness for cookies.
I am waiting for my chocolate chip cookies in the post. How long will it take to arrive in Japan? {{{{{{{{{LOL}}}}}}}}}}}
You and PJ have always had such a special relationship. It must be hard to see him grow up!
I only have one thing to say.
Me. Like. Cookies.
I am all for the cookie recipe! I've been with AUNT FLO this week and craving the sweets!
Hey Chrissy...
You've got me drooling again! Since I'll be home this weekend, I think a visit to GG is definitely in my future...
By the way? MANGO CHEESECAKE!!
eeeeyum.
P.S. The people here also say dinner = lunch. hee hee!
anniem:
These cookies are amazing :) They're easy enough to make, so you can have Mason help you out with them too! The recipe makes 3 dozen, but I usually double the recipe and freeze the dough so that whenever I have unexpected guests who drop by, I take the cookie dough out of the freezer, pop the cookies in the oven for 11 minutes, and they're done. People are always impressed and think I just whipped them up! LOL! Homemade, freshly baked cookies in minutes!
Pete:
You ruined my comment record! Before you commented, all the commenters were from the US!! Just kidding! You know I love your comments too. I don't think I'd be able to send cookies to Japan though! Do you think I can? I also wonder how well the cookies will keep since there are no preservatives. What do you think?
t:
Yes, PJ and I are very close :) I love my baby bro!
PS. LOL! Me love cookies!!! That's too funny! I've got a Cookie Monster pyjama set, complete with big, blue, fuzzy Cookie Monster slippers!
Mrs. Mogul:
LOL! This is a good recipe for when Aunt Flo's over for a visit! Plus, this only takes minutes to make!!!
Chasing Daylight:
YAY! You'll be home for the weekend! Awesome! Oh, and the GG has sooooooo many wonderful dishes on their menu! You know how you get your choice of "side" with your meals (depending on what you order)? It's usually mashed potatoes, fries, risotto cakes, etc. NOW, Rose has included sweet potato fries as one of the options. My brother's girlfriend ordered a Kentucky Smokehouse Burger with a side of sweet potato fries. She said they were deeeeeeeeelish! Little Bro ordered the Chicken Schnitzel and was in heaven!! He LOVED it. He also had the mango cheesecake. I ordered the keylime pie and shared it with his girlfriend. Hubby ordered the pecan pie. The way Hubby says "pecan" is so cute!!! He says "p'kahn" and not "pee/ka/n" because his mom told him that a "pee/ka/n" is something you keep under your bed! LOL!!! Get it?
Pee can? LOL!
