Adventures in Mommyhood
You know something is definitely up when your 17 month old is being way too quiet.
I was busy doing dishes, but wanted to check on Little One. She is a toddler, after all...and she is a very busy little girlie. She's always up to something. This day in particular was no exception.
She sat quietly on the floor, happily emptying out her diaper bag. As I approached, I noticed this incredibly foul smell coming from her. It was a-w-f-u-l! As I got even closer, my heart stopped for a second or two. I almost had a heart attack! Little One looked up at me with this huge smile...COVERED in sticky, gunky, brown goop!!!
Ahhhhh! One of my worst nightmares becoming a reality! If you know me, you'll know how weak a stomach I have. The slightest hint of a foul odour will send my gag reflexes into overdrive and I end up in instant dry heaving. No joke.
When Little One has exceptionally odiferous diapers, I try to suppress the gag reflexes and pass her to Hubby and say, "PLEEEEEASE change her!!!"
In return, Hubby says, "Why me?!?"
The answer? "Because you're a farmer!!! You're used to horrible poopy smells!!!" :) He likes to argue that the cattle don't smell nearly as awful as our toddler though.
Anyway, the horrible stench and a toddler covered from head to toe in BROWN stuff made me panic. That sweet face looked up at me with this beautiful, huge smile...and face and hands covered in yucky brown muck.
I cannot tell you how relieved I was when I realized it was chocolate!! We don't let her eat chocolate or sweets, but she managed to find the chocolate that Grampy (a.k.a. The Spoiler) gave her.
She did poop, but at least she didn't cover herself in it. What a relief! I almost took her outside and grabbed the pressure washer to hose her off.

About the Blog Author
City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!

Oh C I'm so relieved that it was just chocolate! I can picture little one covered in sticky, melty, gooey chocolate! So much better than the original thought I had in mind.
Peace!
Barb:
Same here!!! I almost went into cardiac arrest. I seriously thought she was covered in the "other" thing! Chocolate wasn't so bad after all! I'd take a chocolate covered toddler over a poopy covered toddler. Ewwwwwwww! Gross! LOL!
ha ha! funny story C!
thank goodness it was just chocolate on her face!
Oh dear...the stories I could tell about my daughter and poop when she was little...but you'd probably gag. Let's just say that there was a lot of water and cleaning involved.
Quiet is rarely a good thing.

HAHA! I know! Thank goodness it was chocolate! IMAGINE?!?!? Ackkk!
J:
Oh my! Really?! Hahaha! You're so right about quiet rarely being a good thing. The only problem is that Little One is ALWAYS quiet! I guess it's true when people say "It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for"!
yah chris; our youngest covered himself and his bedroom wall with poo! just wait til little one discovers the stuff she can find in her diaper. they seem to really be fascinated by poo. so so so grossssss!
Oooh, this is a funny story, Chrissy. I'm glad it wasn't what you think it was. This story will surely be one for the family to enjoy re-telling.
