A Hit!!!
Well, it was my mum-in-law-to-be's 64th birthday yesterday, so I whipped up a little supper for her. We invited my parents for the meal as well and we all had a very lovely evening. It's so nice to have family close by and I do love getting together.
The meal:
*veggies and my homemade leek and sour cream dip to start the evening off (it's my mom's recipe!)
*homemade Caesar salad- the bacon bits were made by me, as well as the dressing and croutons. I save the ends of the loaves of bread I make and keep them in the freezer. I then remove them from the freezer when I need croutons and dice/cube them, season them and brown them. The best croutons ever, homemade, no preservatives, you know what exactly goes into them because you make them yourself.
*amazingly yummy, delicious, melt in your mouth pot roast. I Christened the slow cooker I received at my bridal shower and used my brother, Bobby's wonderful recipe. The roast was served with potatoes and carrots
*homemade marble cake and vanilla ice cream
I think the mothers were both relieved to see that J will definitely not starve and I actually do know how to cook homemade meals! Did I tell you that it's absolutely forbidden for me to NOT cook everything homemade? We do not eat anything from a box, package, carton, can...no preservatives and no instant, ready to cook meals. It's kind of hard when work gets in the way, but I guess millions of women have cooked from scratch for decades (heck, even centuries).
Hmm...good thing I love cooking. It sometimes worries me that I'll be balancing a new life as a wife, being a teacher, and a motel operator with my mom. How to balance everything? Again, women have been 'super women' since the beginning of time, so I guess I'll somehow naturally be able to juggle everything.
Oh, the vanilla ice cream was churned by yours truly too! (LOL Just kidding- I did cheat on that one, but we do have an ice cream churner!)

About the Blog Author
City girl moves to the country, falls in love, and marries a farmer. She tries to incorporate her city ways with her new country lifestyle and blogs to keep in touch with friends, family & students who live far, far away :) Can this city girl go country? Watch as she learns all sorts of exciting things about life on the farm and in a small rural community. *UPDATE* We are now parents! Our baby girl was born on Nov. 11, 2008 (at 28 weeks gestation- 12 weeks premature, but she's quite the trooper)!!!
