Shitty things happen to good people

It's true. Sometimes crappy things happen to good people.

J and the rest of the firefighters fought the blaze that scorched over 80 acres of land and they were at it for over 9 hours!!! Two other fire departments were called in and there were also two planes (one was a water bomber that doused the flames) and a helicopter. It was not a pretty sight. The poor guys were exhausted after such a long day. Fortunately there were no casualties.

Then this morning, we got a call from a passer-by saying that it appeared that one of the calves didn't look too well. J went out to see it and sure enough, it was dead :( To add insult to injury, the cow must have kept pushing and her uterus fell out of her. That's right. You heard it correctly- her uterus fell out of her! J's mom called saying there was another similar case in the barn. The vet was called in and he and J got her uterus back in but at the last minute, she died on them. Two dead calves and two dead cows. The turkey vultures were on one of the calves when J got there. They were cute little white calves.

Today is not a good day :( I don't know if I can ever get used to this part of farming. Poor J is down - still exhausted from yesterday's fire call and worn out from today's loss on the farm.

Thanks Dina! He's back to his old self today. I guess the loss of the 2 cows and their 2 calves put a dent into his plans--just those animals equal a loss of over $2000!!!

He's still a bit tired from putting out that fire that ruined 80 acres of land. Poor thing. I need to get him new work boots tomorrow because his are toast now from fighting that fire!

So, how are you doing anyway? I can't wait til your little one comes. Am I gonna be baby's only filipina/Trinidadian auntie?? LOL Love to you and Gav! I MISS YOU!

Yo I got pics of the water bomber if you'd like to post. Nice shot of it close coming close to the water and a few of it spraying the field with water. You dig?
