It's a GIRL!!!!

Yes, my friends...Junior is indeed a GIRL!!! I started having contractions and by 3AM I was already 3 cm dilated. I called Hubby and he and his youngest sister rushed over to the hospital. By 5AM, I was 5 cm dilated. My night nurse gave me some morphine to help with the pain. The contractions and backaches were unbearable. My SIL was laughing because apparently I kept saying, "I love morphine"!

I was wheeled over to Labour and Delivery (Again! That's twice in two days!) and the OB-GYN said that I was going to have this baby TODAY! Today is Remembrance Day (Veteran's Day in the States) and definitely a day I will always remember!

I was in labour from pretty much 2AM and then by 2PM I was 8 cm dilated. Soon after, I was fully dilated, but my water had not broken yet. The doctor had to break it for me. I did end up getting an epidural. I cannot imagine not getting one. I considered going all natural, but am glad that I decided to get it in the end. I'm the biggest wuss!

The good news was that the baby was head down and I was able to deliver vaginally. The crazy part is that I only pushed three times. On the third push, the baby FLEW out! Seriously! She delivered herself! The nurse was standing beside me, about to use the "Code Pink" button to call the rest of the medical team and Hubby was next to me holding my hand as I was going through another contraction. The nurse told me not to push and to just wait and relax, but I couldn't. I pushed and out flew Junior! She landed on the bed (on my foot). It was the weirdest thing ever! Super flying baby! Everything happened so quickly. Within seconds, a whole entourage swooped in and whisked Baby away.
They brought her back after they cleaned her. Since she is a preemie, she was super small. She weighed 2 lbs, 3 oz. I wasn't able to hold her, but I was able to touch her through the incubator window. She is soooooo tiny! She looks like a little doll! Hubby took photos, but we will post them soon. She'll be in the NICU for weeks. We can see her whenever we want (apart from when the staff has their shift changes). She is doing well and looks really good. She looks bigger than I thought she would for a baby at 28 weeks.
I cannot believe Hubby and I are parents! It all happened so quickly! Junior was born at 28 weeks gestation. I can tell already that she will certainly keep us on our toes! :)

OH!!! I'm SO GLAD it's a girl! I keep hearing how premie girls fare better than premie boys, but I didn't want to tell you that in case yours was a boy. :)

All natural sucks unless it's fast, and 12+ hours is NOT fast.

Congratulations, and now you can stop worrying about doing something wrong or standing up, and just focus on loving your new baby and helping her to get strong. I'm SO happy for you both!!!

Congrats Christine! Sounds similar to when my daughter was born. The Doctor had to make a football catch on Sandra when she popped out! The experience of a lifetime.

Love you!

I am glad everyone is doing o.k. That is a tiny baby (weight-wise) but they can work miracles in modern NICU's. My SIL is an labor and delivery nurse so we hear a lot of success stories.
That is too funny that Junior is a girl! Hopefully she'll have a different name soon??
Take care, and ((hugs))

OOOhhhh!!!! It happened so early. This is what I get for teaching at night and not stopping all day today! I hope everything is still good. :)

We are soooo happy for you three! :)

Thanks, everyone!
It certainly was a shock that she came so early. I was not expecting this at all. I didn't even realize I was in labour!!!

She is so sweet and seems to be doing well. The doctors are pleased with her and say she is doing great for a baby at 28 weeks gestation.

The saddest parts for me are:
A: Having her stay in the NICU and not being with me all the time for the next few weeks/months. They want her to stay until her due date, which is Feb. 3!!!

B: Having Hubby so far away.

C: Not being able to hold her or breast feed her. I'm allowed skin to skin contact right now, but since she is so small and hooked up to a bunch of tubes and things, I can't hold her.

Each day will be a trial, but as hard as it is, I know I have to be strong for the two of us.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to pop by everyone's blogs yet. Between spending most of my time with the baby in the NICU and constantly "pumping" every two hours, it's been a bit crazy. As soon as I establish a schedule and sort things out here, I promise to be better at communicating :)

Thank you again for your love and support. XOXO

congratulations, honey! I wanted to call you but the 12 hour difference makes it complicated. I'm glad it wasn't a difficult birth, honey. I'm so happy for you.

Hey! I was thinking about you the other day... wondering what was "up," but couldn't remember your blog's name. (I see you from time to time via the BlogHer headlines.)

Anyway, I linked to your "Stranger on a Train" post today and then to your "dramatic entry" link. So I know you have a girl.

I'm going to keep reading to hear more about what's up with your daughter.

And I hope you "know" who I am from my posting before... so you don't think I'm a weird stalker person.

Congratulations again!
